Iran to Negotiate With Germany, UN Security Council
On Tuesday and Wednesday, Iran plans to engage in new talks about its nuclear program. These talks will be held in Geneva, Switzerland, and will include Iran’s foreign minister and the P5+1. This group of nations includes the five permanent members of the UN Security Council, which are the United States, Britain, France, Russia and China. The “Plus 1” is Germany.
Israel hopes that these negotiations will prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons.
[Soundbite: Yuval Steinitz, Israeli Minister for Strategic Affairs, Intelligence and International Relations:]
“The world wants to be totally confident that Iran is not producing nuclear weapons or even getting closer to the capacity of producing nuclear weapons. You can combine those two demands very easily: Let Iran produce nuclear electricity like Canada but buy the nuclear fuel from other countries, exactly like Canada and Mexico and Sweden and South Africa and South Korea and many other countries.”
The idea that negotiations will bring peace ignores repeated statements from Iran’s leaders. They want to wipe Israel off the map.
Iran’s leaders continue to speak out of both sides of their mouth. On one hand, they claim Iran’s nuclear program is for peaceful purposes. On the other, they continue to develop intercontinental ballistic missiles, which have the sole purpose of delivering nuclear warheads. In Matthew 7:20, Christ said, “by their fruits ye shall know them.” Since the 1979 Iranian Revolution, Iran’s fruits have been terrorism.
Despite the most recent negations in Geneva, do not expect Iran to give up its nuclear ambitions. Watch for Germany to take on a greater role in dealing with Iran as it threatens not only Israel, but also Europe. Daniel 11:40 tells of a soon-coming clash between Germany and Iran.
