Satellite Images Show Russian Buildup Near Finnish Border
Recent satellite images obtained by Swedish broadcaster svt reveal a large Russian military buildup near Finland’s eastern border, Helsinki Times reported on May 10.
Analysts say Russia has been expanding its accommodations for troops, aircraft deployment and infrastructure at military bases near the border.
- At Kamenka, 35 miles from the Finnish border, over 130 military tents have been added since February, allowing it to house up to 2,000 soldiers.
- At Petrozavodsk, 108 miles from the border, three large storage halls have been constructed; each one can hold 50 armored vehicles.
- North of the Arctic Circle, at Severomorsk-2, an old airbase is being renovated and multiple helicopters were seen parked at the base.
- At Olenya airbase, Russian strategic bombers are operating, some of which have been used in attacks on Ukraine.
The buildup is especially worrying considering the last time the Russian military built up along Europe’s Eastern border was in February 2022, just before it launched the war on Ukraine.
NATO expansion: Finland joined nato in 2023, which extended the alliance’s border with Russia by over 800 miles. Russia said there would be “military-technical response measures.” Kremlin officials said nuclear weapons were not off the table.
Finland is now fortifying its border with electronic defense and barbed-wire fences.
Watch Europe: European countries bordering Russia are growing increasingly fearful of Russia’s ever expanding military. Some reports warn that Russia could launch a large-scale war with Europe within five years.
Bible prophecy reveals Russia will not be the first power Europe will war with directly. But Russian aggression will be a major driver behind the prophesied militarization and unification of Europe.
