Charities in Britain warned on Thursday that more than half a million Britons are reliant on food banks.
According to the report, “Walking the Breadline,” half of those resorting to emergency help are doing so because their benefit payments have been cut or delayed.

“We’ve seen a lot of benefits changes, in terms of people’s benefits being stopped—sanctions, that’s been quite kind of big recently. And a few of the people we’ve got at the minute, it’s all about—they’re falling through the net.”

“We got to the stage where I had to say to the children, ‘Look, this is the only amount of food that we have for today. You either eat now or you eat later, but you can’t have anything extra.”
Earlier this month, UK Energy Secretary Ed Davey said it was “completely wrong” to indicate a link exists between the government’s benefit reforms and food bank provisions.
