China Tightens Grip on Solomon Islands

The leaders of China and the Solomon Islands announced on July 10 that they are establishing a comprehensive strategic relationship between their nations. This is the latest sign that the Solomon Islands is becoming a Chinese colony.

The announcement came the day after Solomon Islands Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare arrived in Beijing, where he met with Chinese General Secretary Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang. The two sides also signed agreements on economic development, police partnership programs and technical collaboration.

The two governments have decided to establish a comprehensive strategic partnership of mutual respect and common development.

Sogavare also officially opened a Solomon Islands embassy in China during the trip, which he called a “big milestone” in the nations’ relationship.

Chinese conquest: It was only in 2019 that China persuaded the leadership of the Solomon Islands to switch diplomatic allegiance from Taiwan to China. The Trumpet said at the time that the move furthered “China’s quest to dominate vital shipping lanes in the South Pacific.” In 2022, the two nations signed a security pact that allowed China to “send police, armed police, military personnel and other law enforcement and armed forces to Solomon Islands.”

This week’s establishment of the comprehensive strategic relationship is the latest step in a trend that could soon see the Solomon Islands host Chinese forces and give China a strategic new location from which to project power in the region.

Endangering Australia: The Trumpet wrote in June 2019 that China is targeting the Solomon Islands and neighboring nations because of their strategic location:

Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Vanuatu and the Solomon Islands sit astride the most vital shipping lanes in Australasia. If China is able to militarize these shipping lanes, it will be able to isolate Australia and become master of the South Pacific.

A Chinese ability to overpower Australian and American influence to become “master” of this region aligns with the forecasts of Bible prophecy. To understand, read “China’s Plan to Surround Australia.”
