This Week: Five Events You Need to Know (September 15)
Here are five of the most important news stories this week, as well as relevant links to the full articles and videos here on theTrumpet.com.
Russia and China Rehearse Nuclear World War III
On September 11, Russia, in partnership with China, began one of the largest military exercises ever to take place in history: the Vostok 2018 war games. Russia’s Defense Ministry says the exercise will include 300,000 soldiers, 36,000 combat vehicles and 80 ships. The troop component is twice the size of the entire British Army.
“Looking at which and how many troops are involved, it’s clear that Russia is training for world war,” Sarah Pagung of the German Council on Foreign Relations told Deutsche Welle. Dr. Stephen Blank, a senior fellow at the American Foreign Policy Council, wrote for the Interpreter, “Clearly Russia is rehearsing a large-scale war.”
And not just any war. Russia’s exercises include nuclear weapons.
China’s New Rail-Gun Rockets in Tibet Send Menacing Message
The Chinese military will test the world’s first electromagnetic surface-to-surface rail-gun rockets in Tibet, according to reports by the government-run Science and Technology Daily.
Tibet is Earth’s highest region. Its thin atmosphere considerably reduces the air friction on a weapon fired from an electromagnetic rail gun, giving it a very wide range. The South China Morning Post said such a range would enable the electromagnetic rail-gun rockets to “strike the heartland of India,” which shares a border with China along Tibet.
India has been hindering some key aspects of China’s Belt and Road Initiative in recent years. China hopes to neutralize this resistance through either diplomacy or force.
Iraq’s Iranian Killer Kingmaker
Qais al-Khazali is a murderer and a terrorist. He is a former student of Mohammed Sadiq al-Sadr, the father of Iraqi warlord Muqtada al-Sadr. He is also a driving force behind Iran’s effort to embed itself in Iraqi politics.
“It makes you realize how far Iraq has fallen, and how badly we have handled Iraq in recent years,” wrote the American Enterprise Institute recently. “One of [Iran’s] main proxies is now a kingmaker, and possibly soon a cabinet minister, in the Iraqi government.”
Trumpet editor in chief Gerald Flurry predicted Iraq’s dramatic fall to Iran as early as 1994. Today’s developments in the region powerfully corroborate that Bible-based prediction.
Israeli Raid Reveals Hamas’s Presence in the West Bank
Shin Bet, the Israeli security agency, announced recently that it had raided a Hamas terrorist network operating in Hebron, arresting dozens of agents, including seven women.
“Hamas is trying with all its strength to carry out attacks in the West Bank and to disturb the stability of the Palestinian Authority,” Shin Bet director Nadav Argaman told Israeli lawmakers.
The Bible reveals that this aggression will culminate in an Arab takeover of East Jerusalem.
Anonymous New York Times Op-ed Actually Confirms ‘Deep State’ Is Real
An anonymous senior White House official wrote an essay titled “I Am Part of the Resistance Inside the Trump Administration” for the September 5 New York Times. The author denies being part of “the so-called deep state,” and says he or she is part of “the steady state.” But the terms “deep state” and “steady state” describe the same thing: a permanent bureaucracy of unelected officials who govern the country with increasing autonomy, decreasing transparency, and zero direct accountability to voters.
The “deep state” is real.
