This Week: Five Events You Need to Know (December 24)

Division over Jerusalem, the Iran-Hezbollah problem, a European military superpower, and more

Here are five of the most important news stories this week, as well as relevant links to the full articles and videos here on theTrumpet.com.

Deep Division Over Israel

On December 21, a vast majority of the United Nations General Assembly voted in favor of rejecting United States President Donald Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital. The Trump administration was not intimidated by the vote, but it took it personally, vowing to remember the nations who voted against the U.S. when those countries come looking for money from America.

There is deep division over this issue of Jerusalem, and there is a heavy price that President Trump—and the whole world—may have to pay for recognizing Jerusalem.

Why Obama Blocked Hezbollah Probe

In a 14,000-word investigation titled “The Secret Backstory of How Obama Let Hezbollah Off the Hook,” Politico’s Josh Meyer recently revealed just how much former President Barack Obama was willing to concede in order to sign a nuclear pact with Iran.

The Obama administration was so desperate for a deal with Iranian mullahs that it blocked a probe into Hezbollah’s illicit drug smuggling and money-laundering activities in the Middle East, Africa, Europe and Latin America.

Poland Has Brought Back the Sunday Shopping Ban

On November 24, the Polish parliament passed a law that will ban shopping on Sundays.

The new law will be enforced gradually. Beginning in 2018, most shops will be closed two Sundays each month. In 2019, shopping malls will only be allowed to open one Sunday each month. And then in 2020, there will be only seven Sundays, mainly before the major holidays, when shopping malls can be open.

This development is prophetic—and it is ominous.

Europe’s Detailed Military Planning

The European Union officially launched its Permanent Structured Cooperation (pesco) military initiative on December 11 and then again on December 14, this time by heads of government. pesco pushes EU nations to boost their defense spending and provides them a way to work together on weaponry. It will help them integrate their forces into a combined European military superpower.

The EU is already a political and economic superpower. When it becomes a military superpower, the whole world will, as Bible prophecy reveals, wonder, Who is like unto it? Who is able to make war with it?

Bank of England: Economic Collapse Coming If UK Keeps Borrowing Money

In a rare move, a senior Bank of England official made some troubling comments in light of the country’s increasing debt.

Speaking at University College London on November 30, Richard Sharp said that if the United Kingdom continued to borrow money, it would be “jeopardizing” the country’s economic stability. In the current economic uncertainty, he warned that taking on more debt inhibited Britain’s ability to react to unforeseen economic crises in the future. If the nation loaded up on debt during these supposedly good times, it would be unable to take on more in another recession.

In other words, Britain is on the road to economic collapse if it keeps borrowing money.
