2024: The Year of Elections

2024: The Year of Elections

Ballots and Bible prophecy

Half the world’s population will have the opportunity to vote for a new government in 2024. Global politics could shift fast.

Here’s how some of the most important changes could affect you.

Venezuela, Panama, Uruguay and Argentina: After one century of the Monroe Doctrine, the United States’ dominance in the Southern Hemisphere has eroded. A number of Central American countries are unstable and face crippling financial problems, which are pushing the continent away from America toward another economic system. The Trumpet expects South America to cooperate economically with a European empire. These elections will likely further entrench a trajectory away from America and toward Europe.

Belgium: Home to the European Union’s capital, Belgium could be the next European country to shift right. Leading the polls is the unconventional Vlaams Belang, who is serious about independence for Flanders, a region inside the nation. Open immigration, green-energy policies, war in Ukraine and generally weak leadership are creating a leadership vacuum in the Continent. People are looking for a strong leader to guide them out of the many crises. The Trumpet watches for the prophesied rise of a German strongman who will gain control of Europe through “flatteries” (Daniel 11:21).

United States: November 2024 is scheduled to be the rematch between Joe Biden and Donald Trump. You can read why we expect Trump to return to power here.

Mexico: President Andrés Manuel López Obrador reaches his term limit in June. There are three contenders to replace him. One of the candidates represents continuing the status quo, while the other two may change national policies. Mexico has major business ties to China and is the main entry point for illegal immigrants into the U.S. This election may impact how cooperative the Mexican government is with the U.S.

India: Starting on April 19, the world’s most populous democracy will head to the polls for 44 days of voting. Narendra Modi will seek his third term in power, and polls suggest he will win comfortably. Bible prophecy also suggests Modi may stay in power to continue the formation of the kings of the east. The Trumpet watches for the formation of an Asian power bloc led by Russia and China. India is the third major party in this alliance against the U.S. Under Modi’s leadership, India has increased economic ties with Russia and China, especially after American sanctions on Putin’s Russia. This general election may cement Modi’s position in the Asian alliance.

European Union: In June, seats in the European Parliament will be up for grabs. For years the “super grand coalition” of the three centrist parties has maintained control. Many predict this election will be a shift to the right or a “sharp right-hand turn.” In Italy and the Netherlands, right-wing, populist Christian parties have gained ground. The European Council on Foreign Relations predicted, “Inside the European Parliament, a populist right coalition of Christian democrats, conservatives, and radical right M.E.P.s could emerge with a majority for the first time.” The Trumpet has watched for the prophesied unification of Europe into a 10-nation superpower for decades. As American influence wanes, Europe will resurrect the Holy Roman Empire, described in Revelation 17 and 19. These elections could be another step toward unity.

South Africa: For the first time since the landmark 1994 post-apartheid elections where the African National Congress won, it is polling at less than 50 percent of the vote. With the country spiraling into violence, rolling blackouts and political corruption, 83 percent of South Africans say their country is heading in the wrong direction. This could lead to new leaders. South Africa is a founding member of brics, the economic power competing with the U.S. South Africa is a case study in the fulfillment of Bible prophecies about the decline of nations, as we outline in our booklet South Africa in Prophecy.

What It Means

All this highlights an important truth: Elections reflect the will of God.

The late Herbert W. Armstrong wrote in the 1968 article “Who Really Selects Your Government Head”:

Then the major parties hold their elaborate party conventions. There the delegates choose their party candidate by vote. In the actual election the people vote for “electors” pledged to candidates. But does the result express the will of the people? It is supposed to. Many people, perhaps most, look on failure to express one’s will by voting as disloyalty to his country. But does the result really express the will of the people? The plain truth may prove rather shocking.

World leaders present themselves as the solution to the crushing problems people face day today. They offer policy solutions to hunger, poverty, housing issues and even human annihilation. People cast their ballot hoping these leaders will fix the problems. Whether an election is free and fair, or fraudulent, it reflects this important truth. “Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God” (Romans 13:1).

All leaders in this world are “ordained of God.” Whether they are righteous or evil, whether voted in fairly or not, God has allowed them to come to power to fulfill His prophetic purposes. This is a monumental lesson God is always trying to teach mankind. Daniel 4:17 says: “[T]hat the living may know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will, and setteth up over it the basest of men.”

Mr. Flurry writes in Daniel Unlocks Revelation:

We shouldn’t be too impressed by leaders of this world. God rules them and sets up whomever He will in order to fulfill His master plan. Sometimes even the basest of men rule, because God put them there or allowed them to be there in order to fulfill His purpose. He allows all kinds of things to happen, but everything occurs in the context of His master plan.

All world events, even elections, occur in the content of God’s master plan. This is why it is so important to have the grand overview in mind and key in on important prophetic trends. Check out our list of Trends articles to keep informed on how God’s master plan is being fulfilled.
