China Maintains Support for Putin’s Regime After Wagner Mutiny

In the aftermath of the Russian Wagner mercenary group’s aborted mutiny against the Russian government, new reports show that China is mostly unfazed by the event. The leadership of the Chinese Communist Party is maintaining support for the regime of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Chinese officials were silent as the revolt unfolded on June 24. But the Global Times, a mouthpiece for the Chinese Communist Party, warned that Western efforts to portray the event as evidence that Russia’s “building is collapsing” was only hype aimed at undermining Russia’s social unity.

The next day, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Rudenko met with Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Ma Zhaoxu in Beijing to discuss the events. A statement issued by the Chinese shows that the rebellion did not shake Beijing’s faith in the “no limits” partnership it has established with Russia:

China-Russia political mutual trust has been deepened and pragmatic cooperation has continued to strengthen.

China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs called the Wagner matter “Russia’s internal affair” and said that China “supports Russia in maintaining national stability and achieving development and prosperity.”

Chinese Defense Minister Li Shangfu met Nikolai Yevmenov, commander in chief of the Russian Navy, on July 3 to strengthen military ties between the two nations.

[W]ith the joint efforts of both sides, the relations between the two militaries will continue to deepen and solidify, constantly make new progress and reach a new level.

Meanwhile, China is continuing to keep Russia’s economy afloat with steady energy purchases and diplomatic support and is even helping Russia circumvent import bans on Western items used in Russian weaponry.

The Trumpet said: It is clear that China remains deeply committed to its partnership with Russia, even when Putin faces serious challenges. China’s unwavering support for Putin has surprised some analysts, but it is an outcome that Bible prophecy warned us to expect.

Revelation 16:12 foretells of a multinational Asian alliance that will form in the modern era, called “the kings of the east.” The Scriptures say this Asian bloc will field an army of 200 million men and will play a major role in nuclear World War iii.

Trumpet editor in chief Gerald Flurry has said that Russia will be the lead nation of this Asian confederacy, with China as its primary partner, and that the two are already fulfilling the early stages of these prophecies. In 2014, after China publicly backed Russia’s annexation of Ukraine’s Crimean Peninsula, Mr. Flurry called the support “a stunning fulfillment of a biblical prophecy!

He wrote:

Actually we have been proclaiming for over 50 years that Russia, China and other Asian nations would ally themselves in the end time. And we are in that end time now. … When these Asian nations—extremely powerful nuclear-armed countries—begin to show solidarity with each other regarding moves like that, what does that portend for the world? I tell you it is woe to the world. It will cause many serious problems.
