Republicans and Democrats Join Forces to Advance Same-Sex ‘Marriage’ Legislation

In one of the greatest defeats conservatives have suffered at the hands of Republicans, the United States Senate advanced a bill to enshrine same-sex “marriage” into law. On Wednesday, 12 Republicans joined 48 Democrats and 2 independents to overcome the 60-vote filibuster and begin debate on the Respect for Marriage Act. This legislation is expected to become law after Thanksgiving.

Redefining family: The Respect for Marriage Act repeals the unenforced Defense of Marriage Act, which recognized marriage as a union of one man and one woman. It requires the federal government and all 50 states to recognize homosexual “marriages” lawfully performed in any state. The Biden administration wants Congress to pass it just in case the Supreme Court overturns its 2015 decision that unconstitutionally mandated legal recognition of same-sex “marriage” nationwide.

Republican betrayal: A Morning Consult/Politico survey of 2,006 registered voters found that 58 percent supported passage of a federal law to protect same-sex “marriage,” including 75 percent of Democrats, 62 percent of independents, and 36 percent of Republicans. So when Sens. John Cornyn and Ted Cruz tried to block a Senate vote on the Defense of Marriage Act, many Republicans aided the Democrats.

  • These “Republicans in name only” included: Sens. Susan Collins of Maine, Rob Portman of Ohio, Thom Tillis of North Carolina, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, Mitt Romney of Utah, Roy Blunt of Missouri, Richard Burr of North Carolina, Shelley Moore Capito of West Virginia, Joni Ernst of Iowa, Cynthia Lummis of Wyoming, Dan Sullivan of Alaska, and Todd Young of Indiana.

Eroding foundations: Herbert W. Armstrong wrote in his July 1976 Plain Truth personal, “A solid family structure is the very foundation of any stable and permanent society.” This is why Communists and other radicals seek to destroy it. If you undermine the family as the basic economic unit of society, you create a culture where people depend on the state. Many Republicans say they support same-sex “marriage” because they support freedom, but the left is using it as a weapon to destroy free societies.

Prophecy says: Jude 7 is the strongest warning in the Bible against same-sex “marriage.” It warns that nations that live like Sodom and Gomorrah will suffer “the vengeance of eternal fire.” To understand the deadly deceit behind same-sex “marriage” and what God thinks of this particular sin, request a free copy of our booklet Redefining Family by Trumpet managing editor Joel Hilliker.
