American companies laid off more than 153,000 employees last month, more than in any October for the past 22 Octobers, according to a report by Challenger, Gray and Christmas. The human resources firm stated, “This comes as AI adoption, softening consumer and corporate spending, and rising costs drive belt-tightening and hiring freezes.” These record layoffs are yet another indicator that the U.S. economy is dangerously unstable.

President Donald Trump is pardoning dozens of political allies who tried to expose election fraud in the 2020 presidential elections and were subsequently targeted by Democrats. His pardons are to include Rudy Giuliani, Sidney Powell, Mark Meadows, John Eastman, Kenneth Chesebro and 72 others. These people went to great lengths and serious risk to expose election fraud in six swing states—Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin—and Barack Obama and Joe Biden vengefully targeted them for persecution. These pardons help 77 people, but the all-out war for control of the federal government continues.

Today, for the first time in history, the leader of Syria will visit Washington. President Donald Trump hosts President Ahmed al-Sharaa, the former leader of an al Qaeda affiliate who overthrew the secular regime of Bashar Assad late last year. Sharaa has formally renounced violent Islamist extremism, but many are concerned that jihad remains his real goal. Read more about what this means for America in “Syria to Welcome U.S. Military.”

The bbc’s director general has resigned. Tim Davie’s exit comes after the Telegraph published details from an internal memo exposing bbc bias. Deborah Turness, chief executive of bbc News, also quit. U.S. President Donald Trump celebrated the resignations, posting on Truth Social, that they “are all because they were caught ‘doctoring’ my very good (perfect!) speech of January 6th. Thank you to the Telegraph for exposing these corrupt ‘journalists.’ These are very dishonest people who tried to step on the scales of a presidential election. On top of everything else, they are from a foreign country, one that many consider our number one ally. What a terrible thing for democracy!” In the days before the 2021 inauguration of Joe Biden, the bbc deceptively edited President Trump’s January 6 speech to make it sound like he was calling on demonstrators to go to the Capitol and fight, instead of to protest peacefully. The memo also demonstrated the bbc’s anti-Israel bias and agenda for supporting radical sexual deviancy. Despite the revelations and resignations, many at the bbc remain unrepentant. Even after stepping down, Turness insisted, “bbc News is not institutionally biased. That’s why it’s the world’s most trusted news provider.” Media bias has been a deadly tool for bringing down Britain and America. The bbc has been a highly trusted source. This has made its lies and biases so damaging.

The European Union is updating its infrastructure to streamline the movement of military assets across its territory. On November 19, the European Commission will present a document detailing changes to infrastructure and border policies, enabling quicker military moves to the eastern flank. The Commission will encourage EU members to remove obstacles to sharing military assets, much like the Schengen Area reduces or eliminates border checkpoints and other international restrictions. The EU may also create a shared fleet of military transports. To understand Bible prophecies regarding European unification and militarization, read our Trends article “Why the Trumpet Watches Europe’s Push Toward a Unified Military.”

Rebels in Sudan have agreed to a ceasefire proposed by the U.S. and Arab nations. The Rapid Support Forces paramilitary group recently captured the city of El Fasher but likely cannot conquer Sudan outright: Its ceasefire agreement on Thursday appears to be an attempt to consolidate its gains and establish independence from the Sudanese government. Several nations have pushed for a peace deal that keeps the country unified, but the U.S. is pushing for a quicker solution, apparently to the point of allowing the Rapid Support Forces, one of the most heinously brutal armed groups in the world, to establish its own government over people it is trying to eliminate. If there really is a loving, all-powerful God in control of world events, why is He letting this happen? Read the inspiring answer in Chapter 4 of Mystery of the Ages, by Herbert W. Armstrong.

Rebel Tigray forces attacked civilians with artillery and seized control of six villages on Wednesday. Last month, the Ethiopian government accused the Tigrays of working with Eritrea, “actively preparing to wage war against Ethiopia.” The Bible prophesies that Ethiopia will soon ally with Iran. This dramatic shift will likely require the rapid empowerment of Islamic forces and regime change. Mr. Flurry’s free booklet The King of the South shows how Egypt is prophesied to cause this shift “with a lot of violence.” In the last Tigray insurgency, Egypt was accused of supporting rebel forces, and tension between Egypt and Ethiopia remains. Watch for Egypt and ultimately Iran to bring Ethiopia into the radical Islamic bloc.

On Thursday, pirates in the Red Sea area successfully hijacked a commercial vessel, the first hijacking in over 18 months and one of several attacks that occurred last week. Analysts fear this could indicate the growing influence of nonstate actors like al-Shabaab and the Houthis. The Bible prophesies that Iran and its allies, likely including al-Shabaab and the Houthis, will aggressively “push” against Europe. Trumpet editor in chief Gerald Flurry warns that this push may include Iran’s aggression in the Red Sea.

The German cities of Overath and Kerpen have canceled or scaled back their Christmas market festivals, citing high security costs to protect against Islamic terrorism. Jörg Urban, a politician in the increasingly popular right-wing Alternative für Deutschland party, characterized the decisions as “capitulation to Islam.” Expect more and more Germans to react against their weak local and national politicians and to support a much more authoritarian leader.

The German Interior Ministry issued a decree on Wednesday that bans the pro-Muslim influencer group Muslim Interaktiv for advocating anti-democratic ideas. If the group’s judicial appeals fail, the Interior Ministry will confiscate its assets and dissolve it. “We will respond with the full force of the law to anyone who aggressively calls for a caliphate on our streets, incites hatred against the State of Israel and Jews in an intolerable manner, and despises the rights of women and minorities,” said Germany’s interior minister, who added that the government will not allow such organizations like this to “attack our country from within.” Other groups are also under investigation, and arrests have been made as the German government toughens its position against radical Islam in Europe. The Bible foretells the future of this conflict.

Austrian authorities announced the discovery of a stash of Hamas-linked weapons in Vienna. They said the five handguns and 10 magazines were likely intended for use against Jewish targets in Europe. The investigation resulted in the arrest of one British citizen on Monday. Austria’s interior minister said, “The mission is clear: zero tolerance for terrorists.” Europe continues to be pressured by Islamic terrorism. Expect it to take much stronger steps and to strike the source of the problem: Iran.

Iran is building up Iraqi militias and terrorists, according to Israeli media. The leader of Iran’s elite military forces recently visited pro-Iranian Iraqi militia leaders. Iraqi forces constitute a potential threat, possibly involving missile and drone strikes, against Israel. Meanwhile, Israel has announced a $1.6 billion effort in “reinforcing its borders.” The Trumpet expects Israel to become the epicenter of dramatic world events described in end-time Bible prophecy. The “largest defense training in Polish history” will begin this month, Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz announced yesterday. He remarked, “We are living in the most dangerous times since World War ii. A war is raging beyond our borders; there are acts of sabotage in the Baltic Sea and battles in cyberspace.” The “Always Prepared” program is open to all Polish citizens, from primary school children to retirees, and is part of a broader plan to train 100,000 people by the end of the year and 400,000 by the end of next year. The course includes digital security, medical and survival training. As Russia continues its war on Ukraine and Poland reacts with drastic increases in military spending and national preparedness, another and even more significant trend is taking place: the prophesied rise of a European military superpower.

Pope Leo xiv met with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas in the Vatican yesterday, the first time the two leaders have met, and on the 10th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Vatican and the Palestinian Authority. Leo has yet to meet with the Palestinians’ main enemy, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. When Leo’s predecessor, Pope Francis, made a controversial trip to the Holy Land in 2014 and openly endorsed the Palestinians’ claims against Israel, Trumpet editor in chief Gerald Flurry called it “a dark sign.” Pope Leo’s actions are another indicator of who the Roman Catholic Church hates.

Yesterday, the United States Supreme Court paused an ongoing effort to force through transgender passports. In 2010, President Barack Obama’s State Department allowed people who had “undergone appropriate clinical treatment for gender transition” to switch sexes on their passports. In 2022, the department added a third “X” option. In January, President Trump issued an executive order directing federal agencies to issue passports that accurately reflect the holder’s sex. In June, Biden-appointed U.S. District Judge Julia Kobick ruled against that order. Now the Supreme Court has issued a stay order, arguing, “Displaying passport holders’ sex at birth no more offends equal protection principles than displaying their country of birth—in both cases, the government is merely attesting to a historical fact without subjecting anyone to differential treatment.” The court has not issued a final decision on the case, Trump v. Orr, and the culture war over sexual deviancy and other sins in America rages on.

Justices asked pointed questions of the Trump administration in oral arguments yesterday, indicating an inclination to rule that its implementation of tariffs is unconstitutional. The U.S. Constitution gives Congress the power to levy taxes, so President Trump ordered federal agents to enforce the tariffs under the 1977 International Emergency Economic Powers Act. He claims that the trade deficit is an economic and national security emergency. Chief Justice John Roberts said this line of reasoning could empower the president “to impose tariffs on any product, from any country, in any amount, for any length of time.” Justice Neil Gorsuch characterized it as “a one-way ratchet toward the gradual but continual accretion of power in the executive branch and away from the people’s elected representatives.” A Supreme Court ruling against Trump’s tariffs and reasoning would undermine not only his strategy for alleviating the deficit and the economy but also his domestic and international prestige and aura of invincibility. It would also likely mean that America’s severe economic dependency on imports will intensify, unless and until Congress passes a tariff bill.

Typhoon Kalmaegi has killed more than 100 people in the Philippines so far. Many others are still missing in the central part of the nation as a result of flooding, landslides and fallen debris. Nearly half a million people have been displaced. This devastation comes less than a month after a major earthquake in the country killed more than 70 and injured 140 others. To understand what the Bible says about why such disasters occur, read Why ‘Natural’ Disasters?

Congressman Brandon Gill filed the measure on Tuesday, accusing James Boasberg of violating the Constitution by approving fbi conduct during its Arctic Frost investigation under the Biden administration. Boasberg approved secret subpoenas authorizing fbi agents to obtain phone records for at least 10 Republican senators and issued orders to prevent telecommunications providers from informing the targets that they were being investigated, directly violating the law. Boasberg’s exposure is just one example of the destruction of the Constitution under Obama-Biden-aligned judges and agents. To learn how Bible prophecy addresses this tragedy, read Gerald Flurry’s free book America Under Attack.

Germany’s new National Security Council held its first meeting on Wednesday. A spokesman said that it addressed hybrid threats and adopted an interdepartmental action plan involving counterintelligence and security for critical infrastructure. He said the council also discussed Germany’s dependencies on certain imports and deliberated how to “diversify and strengthen the resilience of raw material supplies.” The council, which is designed to develop strategies for threatening situations, meets in secret and is one of many signs that Germany is preparing for war.

President Trump endorsed Andrew Cuomo for New York City mayor on Tuesday and criticized the front runner, Zohran Mamdani. Cuomo is a former Democratic governor and ran for mayor as an Independent. “I would much rather see a Democrat, who has had a record of success, win, than a Communist with no experience and a record of complete and total failure,” the president posted. He also suggested limiting federal funds to the city under Mamdani’s leadership. The president’s comments highlight the shocking reality that the fate of America’s largest city may rest in the hands of an Islamic socialist.

Typhoon Kalmaegi killed at least 40 Filipinos and trapped dozens more on Monday. The Cebu and Southern Leyte provinces suffered 87 mph winds, gusts exceeding 121 mph and several feet of floodwater. Kalmaegi is proceeding through the region and is expected to strike Vietnam Thursday night. This disaster comes soon after a 6.9-magnitude earthquake killed 79 people in Cebu on September 30. To understand what the Bible says about environmental disasters and when and why they will increase, read Why ‘Natural’ Disasters?

U.S. Central Command announced on Monday its “first bilateral Combined Command Post for air defense in the Middle East with Qatar at Al Udeid Air Base.” centcom Commander Adm. Brad Cooper said relations with Qatar are “stronger than ever.” Qatar is a known sponsor of Hamas, the Muslim Brotherhood and other active Islamic terror groups in the Middle East and around the world, as well as pro-Hamas unrest on U.S. college campuses. The current presidential administration’s love affair with such a vile regime cannot end well.

Yesterday, the Trumpet relayed a leaked dossier analyzing bbc bias against Donald Trump before the 2024 presidential election. The same day, an internal report at bbc Arabic leaked, revealing intentional bias to “minimize Israeli suffering” in the Gaza war to “paint Israel as the aggressor.” According to the report, anti-Israel allegations were “raced to air” without proper checks and scrutiny, either out of recklessness or due to a “desire always to believe the worst about Israel.”

This weekend, Berlin police arrested a Syrian citizen who they believe was planning a terror attack. The 22-year-old suspect shared Islamic propaganda on social media and a police search of properties associated with him found “equipment suitable for making a bomb.” Germany’s interior minister said this arrest showed “the terrorist threat in Germany, though often abstract, remains heightened.” In October, German police arrested three Hamas supporters with similar plans. This recent arrest further exacerbates tensions surrounding the German migrant crisis, which in turn strains the nation’s political situation. German political upheaval is a trend the Trumpet watches because, based on Bible prophecy, it will lead to a strong German leader.

Two Quebec men caught possessing material showing toddlers being tortured claimed that minimum sentences as a principle were unconstitutional. In a 5-4 decision, Canada’s Supreme Court agreed with them and found that even a one-year sentence should not be imposed. After the court ruled that a ban on euthanasia was unconstitutional in 2015, the Trumpet recognized it as “an illustration of the dangers of rejecting the Bible as an absolute for our moral standards and relying on our own reasoning.” The same can be applied to this ruling.
