Canadian Spies Report Chinese Election Interference

The Canadian Security Intelligence Service (csis) believes China interfered in Canada’s 2019 and 2021 elections, the Foreign Interference Commission in Ottawa showed Monday.

This evidence of China’s foreign meddling is also only one of multiple cases revealed in the current hearings. The commission was shown part of a February 2023 csis briefing, which stated:

We know that the prc [People’s Republic of China] clandestinely and deceptively interfered in both the 2019 and 2021 elections. In both cases, these FI [foreign interference] activities were pragmatic in nature and focused primarily on supporting those viewed to be either “pro-prc” or “neutral” on issues of interest to the prc government.
