Scientist Fired From Winnipeg Biolab Worked for Chinese Government

Chinese scientists Xiangguo Qiu and her husband, Keding Cheng, were escorted out of the National Microbiology Laboratory in Winnipeg, Canada, in 2019, according to a February 28 report by the National Post. This Level 4 lab handles infectious diseases, experimental vaccines, pathogens and emergency responses to public heath crises. The pair were later fired in 2021 over suspicions of espionage.

Justin Trudeau’s government refused to reveal any information on the incident until they were compelled to by Parliamentary Committee.

Wuhan links: The National Post reports: “Qiu’s position came through the Wuhan Institute of Virology [in China] and csis [Canadian Security Intelligence Service] determined that the [Chinese] Thousand Talents Program offers researchers up to $1 million in research subsidies and better access to visas and Chinese health care.”

The Wuhan Institute of Virology is where the coronavirus was created and later released on the world. Qiu sent scientific data to China before the 2020 pandemic began.

Espionage: “One of the scientists who was fired from Canada’s top infectious disease laboratory “intentionally” shared scientific information with China—potentially putting people’s health in jeopardy—says an assessment by the Canadian Security Intelligence Service,” reported cbc. Qiu provided Beijing “with the Ebola genetic sequence, which opened a door of convenience for China,” wrote csis.”

The csis assessment also stated that Qiu was using the Winnipeg lab “as a base to assist China to improve its capability to fight highly-pathogenic pathogens” and “achieved brilliant results.”

This is an unprecedented breach of national security and proves how effectively Chinese espionage penetrates Western institutions. China has been able to work with impunity inside Canada for decades. The use of foreign student programs, talent programs and other university friendship programs are classic avenues for Chinese intellectual theft and stealing state secrets.

These revelations are especially serious because it reveals a connection between Chinese espionage and the Wuhan Institute of Virology.

Weapons of war: Trumpet editor in chief Gerald Flurry writes in America Under Attack that the Wuhan lab was part of China’s biological weapons research. The United States government under Barack Obama funded research at the Wuhan Institute, but espionage is also being used to develop deadly pathogens.
