Trudeau Stands With Nazis (Accidentally)

A day of shame at the heart of Canada’s democracy

On September 22, something unthinkable happened in Canada’s Parliament. The House of Commons gave two standing ovations to Yaroslav Hunka, a 98-year-old Nazi veteran who served with the Waffen-SS Galicia Division in Ukraine during World War ii.

Speaker of the House Anthony Rota introduced Hunka as “a Ukrainian-Canadian war veteran … who fought for Ukrainian independence against the Russians.” Rota also described Hunka as “a Canadian hero, and we thank him for all his service.” Rota appeared to be ignorant that Hunka was a Nazi.

This has permanently stained the reputation of the House of Commons. A nation that sacrificed so much blood to defeat Nazism was found honoring it. The reaction was visceral.

I have a great-uncle who landed on Juno Beach in Normandy and helped liberate concentration camps, and it is hard to think of a more insulting mistake. The display weakened our integrity in the eyes of the world.

All party leaders and senior Liberals called for Rota to resign. Rota took full responsibility and publicly apologized, indicating that Hunka was not vetted and the prime minister did not know about the guest. Shortly after Hunka’s true identity was revealed, Polish Education Minister Przemysław Czarnek began the process of asking for an extradition of Hunka so he could be tried for war crimes.

With the mounting political and international pressure, Rota resigned from his role as speaker on September 27. A secret ballot vote will be used to select a new speaker in the near future.

This shameful event exposed the hypocrisy of Justin Trudeau’s government.

During the Freedom Convoy protest in Ottawa in the winter of 2022, two swastikas were photographed, prompting a massive uproar from the mainstream media and the government. Trudeau labeled the protesters as “Nazis.” Another member of Parliament said the Internet meme “Honk! Honk!” was an acronym for “Heil Hitler.”

Trudeau accused Conservatives of standing with people who waved swastikas, but Trudeau’s party stood with an actual Nazi who helped commit genocide.

The media’s approach to this event does not register on the vitriolic scale compared to its coverage of the Freedom Convoy. This double standard exposes the agenda behind nearly every major news outlet in Canada: By protecting Trudeau, they are guaranteeing another $595 million bailout.

This also exposes the hollowness of Trudeau’s smear tactics. The poetic justice of Trudeau literally standing with a Nazi when he has accused political opponents of doing the same should not be forgotten just because the speaker resigned.

The corruption and incompetence in our leaders is being exposed (Isaiah 3:1-7). Jeremiah 3:25 points out the reason: “We lie down in our shame, and our confusion covereth us: for we have sinned against the Lord our God, we and our fathers, from our youth even unto this day, and have not obeyed the voice of the Lord our God.”

The British Commonwealth and the United States received a great deal of prestige and honor because they inherited the physical promises God gave to the patriarch Abraham. But because of our sins, God is removing that honor.

Psalm 4:2 says, “O ye sons of men, how long will ye turn my glory into shame? how long will ye love vanity, and seek after leasing? Selah.”

The further we drift from obedience to God’s laws, the more our national shame will multiply. The more our sins increase, the more evil leaders will rule over us. This is the law of cause and effect explained in the Bible.
