China Aids U.S. Cannabis Production

Americans have known for years that China is the primary source of fentanyl trafficked into the United States. Now, it looks like China might be a primary source of cannabis trafficked throughout the United States. On March 21, Politico released a report highlighting how Chinese investors, owners and workers have emerged as a source of funding for illegal cannabis production.

Citing interviews with economists, state law enforcement officials and drug trade experts, Politico claims that the number of cannabis farms funded by sources traceable back to Chinese investors has skyrocketed in recent years (especially in California, Oklahoma and Oregon). In Oklahoma, close to 2,000 of the state’s nearly 7,000 licensed marijuana farms were flagged last year for economic activity tying them to China, according to a spokesperson for the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics.

Communist attack: Liu Pengyu, a spokesperson for the Chinese Embassy in Washington, D.C., told Politico that China “takes a ‘zero tolerance’ attitude to drugs” and has “been rigorously combating drug production, trafficking and other kinds of drug crimes.”

Yet this “zero tolerance” policy only applies to drug consumption in China. The Chinese Communist Party has a long history of trafficking drugs to enemy nations. In 1955, according to Edward R. Slack’s Opium, State and Society, Chinese Premier Zhou Enlai told Egyptian President Gamal Abdel Nasser that the Communists would use drugs against the morale of U.S. forces in Asia. And Soviet statesman Mikhail Suslov noted in 1964 that Zhou’s strategy was “to disarm the capitalists with the things they like to taste.”

Broken will: The Chinese Communist Party is facilitating and profiting from this American self-destruction, but the blame ultimately lies with the depravities of the American people. Drug pushers may be putting this chemical weapon into the hands of Americans, but Americans are using it on themselves and demanding more and more.

The Apostle Peter wrote, “They promise them freedom, but they themselves are slaves of corruption; for whatever overcomes a man, to that he is enslaved” (2 Peter 2:19; Revised Standard Version). Drugs are destroying America’s willpower and leading to a time when enemies will enslave this nation. Only repentance can dismantle America’s culture of escapism and turn people to God’s way of life.
