Biden Administration’s Regulatory Death Grip

Is the U.S. economy being regulated into recession?

The Republican Party is set to take control of the House of Representatives in January 2023 after years of being controlled by the radical Democrats. The Republicans are promising to curtail Joe Biden’s agenda and revitalize the economy. Yet it will prove very difficult to reverse the damage that has been done.

On Jan. 20, 2021, Biden issued 17 executive orders during his first day in the White House. Politico called this “the first salvos in a coming legislative and regulatory crusade to erase Donald Trump’s legacy from federal law and advance his own agenda.” These decrees were designed to blot out Trump’s agenda and resume the radicalization of the United States via decree. These covered policies on the pandemic, trans rights, climate change and the economy.

One order called “Modernizing Regulatory Review” received little attention but is having a massive, detrimental impact on the United States’ economy. The Issues & Insights editorial board wrote in an article titled “Biden’s Worst Executive Order Went Almost Entirely Unnoticed”: “The order also seems harmless enough, going by the seemingly innocent title ‘Modernizing Regulatory Review.’ Except this order isn’t about modernizing regulations. It’s about unleashing the regulatory state with a ferocity never before seen in this country.”

Biden’s order removed the cost-benefit analysis used to regulate the implementation of regulations. Previously, if the economic cost of a regulation was too high, it would not be implemented. With this barrier removed, the Biden White House has been moving full tilt to change the U.S. through regulation.

This is the exact opposite direction of Donald Trump’s administration. “One of Trump’s biggest—unsung—achievements in the White House was his effort to rein in the regulatory state,” continued Issues & Insights. “A lifelong businessman, Trump understood—in a way lifelong politicians cannot—the avalanche of regulations that fall on a business and the enormous costs they impose. One of his very first actions was the two-for-one order.” Trump’s executive order directed executive agencies that for every regulation they issued, two must be rescinded.

During the Trump years, agencies actually averaged removing 4.3 rules for every new rule. This is estimated to have saved American households an average of $3,100 a year in regulatory fees through taxes.

Each year the Competitive Enterprise Institute (cei) publishes a report named “Ten Thousand Commandments,” which analyzes the regulatory activity of the federal government based on the Federal Register. The cei reported: “In 2017, Trump’s first year, the Federal Register finished at 61,308 pages, the lowest count since 1993 and a 36 percent drop from President Barack Obama’s 95,894 pages, which at the time was the highest level in history.” Obama was the single-greatest author of regulation in U.S. history. Biden looks set to return to Obama-level regulation with a vengeance. The cei report continued:

Biden’s repudiation of the Trump deregulatory agenda is thorough. While the Trump administration claimed to have met internal goals of implementing a “one-in, two-out” process for rules and freezing costs, the longer-term horizon revealed resistant agencies poised to unleash substantially more regulatory actions than deregulatory ones. That impulse is now unleashed via Biden’s directives to agencies.

Obama’s regulatory zeal had a significant negative impact on the economy and was a covert plan to transform America through executive decree. Continuing that same agenda, Biden’s regulations are significantly impacting the energy sector, driving up inflation, and increasing the burden on the economy. Regulation can deny methods of operating, increase costs of compliance to laws, and increase the government’s presence in everyday business.

According to the U.S. government website, there are 443 federal agencies inside the U.S. government. Each can issue a regulation over its area of delegation. Biden is looking to unleash these 443 agencies to continue regulating his agenda into action. The regulations have already reached pre-Trump levels, and this crusade began with his executive order on Jan. 20, 2021.

The amount of money that regulations cost the federal government is staggering. In 2021, these costs amounted to $1.93 trillion, or 8 percent of the U.S.’s gross domestic product. It is nearly as much as corporate and individual income tax receipts combined ($1.97 trillion). The costs alone are bigger than the entire gdp of Canada. The federal government is projected to spend $5.9 trillion in fiscal year 2022. Regulation costs will amount to 33 percent of the entire budget.

Over the years, Congress has slowly ceded authority in many matters over to the executive agencies. In 2021, Congress enacted 143 laws, while federal agencies issued 3,257 rules—a 23:1 ratio. Since 1993, 114,821 rules have been issued by the federal government. As long as the radical left “deep state” has the ability to manipulate law and the economy through regulation, a Republican-controlled House of Representatives will find it difficult to make meaningful change. Issues & Insights concluded:

Voters who think that putting Republicans in control of the House and Senate will make a big difference for the economy are in for a rude awakening. President Joe Biden has unleashed the regulatory Leviathan. Lawmakers will be hard-pressed to stop the damage, … What, then, can Republicans do?

Congress has over the past decades ceded so much authority to the executive branch that its options are limited. But it can stand resolute and use the power of the purse to block regulators from enforcing their mandates. Lawmakers can send sensible regulatory reform bills to Biden’s desk and force his veto. They can talk ceaselessly about how government red tape is choking the economy.

They could do all those things. But that would require a level of foresight and fortitude Republicans have rarely shown when they’re in power.

Donald Trump has been the only president to deregulate the economy and restore economic freedom to the people. He had begun to dismantle Obama’s deep state regulatory death grip. Trump has been the only Republican with the courage and backbone to fight back against this regulatory tide. If history is a guide, the Republican-controlled House of Representatives will not be able, or willing, to confront the deep state. There is a battle going on for America, and only one man is willing to fight against these forces. In the January 2023 Trumpet magazine, editor in chief Gerald Flurry wrote in his article “Ready for War”:

On one side of this political battle in America is the Democratic Party and the radical left. There is also, we now know, establishment Republicans. They are joined by the media—both leftist and “conservative”—and Big Tech, with the single exception now of Twitter. All are arrayed together.

On the other side is Donald Trump. Virtually alone.

The statistics display this truth: Only one man has proved willing to take on the establishment. However, regulations are not just a game of numbers. It is actually a component of the Communist attack against the United States. Mr. Flurry explains this in his book America Under Attack. This Communist revolution is being led by Barack Obama via the proxy presidency of Joe Biden. These regulations are just one way the radical left is causing bitter affliction in the nation. This attack was prophesied to occur. 2 Kings 14:26 says: “For the Lord saw the affliction of Israel, that it was very bitter: for there was not any shut up, nor any left, nor any helper for Israel.”

Yet the Bible also prophesies that God will save America one more time. Verse 27 says: “And the Lord said not that he would blot out the name of Israel from under heaven: but he saved them by the hand of Jeroboam the son of Joash.” Who is this Jeroboam? Who will God use to save America from this bitter affliction?

Mr. Flurry continued in “Ready for War”: “But God is not going to allow that. He will save Israel, temporarily. How? ‘By the hand of Jeroboam.’ Anciently He did so through King Jeroboam ii. Prophetically, that is the role Mr. Trump is going to play. This has not happened yet to the extent that it will. Trump must return to the presidency to fulfill this job.”

America is suffering under the death knell of the radical left’s regulatory attack. Yet God will save America one more time to give the nation one last chance to repent! Only one book can explain the spirit and motivation behind this regulatory effort. Please read America Under Attack.
