Are Bayer-Monsanto and BASF Responsible for Destroying Texas’s Grape Harvest?

Is Deuteronomy 28:51 being fulfilled before our eyes?

A German-owned chemical consortium destroyed 95 percent of productive grapevines on dozens of family-owned vineyards covering 3,000 acres of Texas, according to a court case filed in June. Fifty-seven Texas grape growers sued Bayer-Monsanto and basf, according to a June 7 report from winebusiness.com. While the German companies deny the allegations, they’ve been proved guilty in other cases.

The Texas farmers allege they were the unintentional victims of a genetically modified seed system for cotton and soy crops that were engineered to be resistant to a specific type of herbicide, called “dicamba.” The farmers could spray dicamba onto their fields, killing the weeds, but not the crops. However, herbicides don’t always stay where they’re sprayed. The Texas farmers say the herbicide has been killing their vines.

“The loss threatens the existence of many High Plains vineyards, which have taken decades to cultivate and account for 85 percent of the grapes produced, sold or used by the state’s $13.1 billion wine industry, the nation’s fifth largest,” winebusiness.com noted.

“Because of their duplicity and greed, Bayer-Monsanto has turned a true Texas success story into an economic and environmental nightmare,” said lawyer Adam Dinnell, who represents the grape growers.

One veteran grape farmer, Neal Newsom, called this “a horror story.” Local kcbd News explained that grapevines “should last at least 75 to 100 years.” Yet Newsom “has replaced 10,000 this season, and that is just a fraction of what he has lost.”

In February 2020, a Missouri jury awarded $265 million in damages to a peach orchard. “Bayer-Monsanto struck a $300 million settlement to settle other suits filed by angry farmers,” winebusiness.com noted. The award was eventually reduced to $75 million.

On July 27, a Washington State court ruled that Monsanto has to pay $185 million in damages after three school teachers successfully sued Monsanto. The reason? Polychlorinated biphenyls (pcbs) were used in fluorescent lighting at their school. “For decades, Monsanto made almost all of the nation’s … polychlorinated biphenyls, for a range of construction uses …. The chemicals were banned in the U.S. in the late 1970s, after being linked to cancer, birth defects and other health issues.” Monsanto said it disagrees with last week’s verdict and may appeal.

Following litigation over its weed killer Roundup, Bayer originally pledged to pay more than $10 billion to settle thousands of lawsuits. Last Thursday, July 29, it was announced that the company’s provisions are to be increased by an additional $4.5 billion. Bayer is bracing for more lawsuits.

When Bayer took over Monsanto in 2018, issues were already mounting. But Bayer was willing to take the risk. Bayer’s shares dropped after the takeover and for the next few years it had to fight against allegations. Nonetheless, Bayer ceo Werner Baumann told Bloomberg tv that he had “absolutely no regrets” taking over Monsanto. It is doubtful the recent allegations have changed his statement.

When Bayer purchased Monsanto, officials around the world examined what effect the deal would have on global competition in the agriculture industry. Bayer agreed to sell $8.8 billion in agriculture assets to basf to appease the authorities. But considering Bayer and basf’s connection, the deal should never have been allowed.

Bayer and basf were once part of the conglomerate IG Farben that manufactured, among other things, the Nazis’ death gas, Zyklon B. That history alone should be a warning that these two companies should not have global dominance in the agrochemical industry. After World War ii, IG Farben was split into various companies. Today, those companies are cooperating on many levels and are accused of destroying America’s harvest.

The Guardian reported in 2020, “The U.S. agriculture giant Monsanto and the German chemical giant basf were aware for years that their plan to introduce a new agricultural seed and chemical system would probably lead to damage on many U.S. farms, internal documents seen by the Guardian show” (March 30, 2020).

What damage could these companies cause in the future? Bible prophecy reveals the answer.

“And he shall eat the fruit of thy cattle, and the fruit of thy land, until thou be destroyed: which also shall not leave thee either corn, wine, or oil, or the increase of thy kine, or flocks of thy sheep, until he have destroyed thee” (Deuteronomy 28:51). This prophecy reveals the destruction of Israel’s harvest. The Interlinear Bible defines the word “eat” in this passage as “to devour, consume, destroy (inanimate subjects—i.e. pestilence, drought).” In this manner, a foreign nation will destroy “the fruit of thy cattle, and the fruit of thy land” and leave neither “corn, wine, or oil, or the increase of thy kine, or flocks of thy sheep.”

As Herbert W. Armstrong explained in The United States and Britain in Prophecy, the modern descendants of Israel are primarily the U.S. and Britain.

Mr. Armstrong warned:

After the national birthright had been withheld 2,520 years and then bestowed; after God gave our peoples that national power, and has now, because of our national rebellion against His laws, broken the pride of our power; after He shall have punished us with unprecedented drought and epidemics of disease in its wake, then if the British and Americans still continue in their evil ways—still refuse to repent and turn to their God—He warns [in Leviticus 26]: “… I will bring seven times more plagues upon you according to your sins.” Read that in the Revised Standard Version: “… I will bring more plagues upon you, sevenfold as many as your sins” (verse 21).

Earlier he wrote:

You need to open your eyes to the fact that Britain’s sun already has set! You need to wake up to the fact that the United States, even still possessing unmatched power, is afraid—fears—to use it, just as God said: “I will break the pride of your power”; that the United States has stopped winning wars—that America was unable, with all its vast power, to conquer little North Vietnam! The United States is fast riding to the greatest fall that ever befell any nation!

The handwriting is on the wall!

You need, now, to understand the remainder of this prophecy of Leviticus 26—and also of Deuteronomy 28—and the many other prophecies relating to them and events soon to violently affect your life!

Deuteronomy specifically mentions that America’s vineyards will be destroyed by a foreign power. Are we seeing this prophecy fulfilled in a small way today? Anciently, the foreign power was the Chaldean Empire. In modern times, this power is the very nation that started two world wars: Germany. (This truth is explained in our free booklet Germany and the Holy Roman Empire and was proclaimed for decades by the late Herbert W. Armstrong.)

It should be alarming to everyone that two German companies could destroy America’s harvest! But the Bible reveals that we are seeing only the beginning of absolute destruction.

The Bible also reveals that God allows all this to happen because of His great love. That may sound perplexing, but it’s only through severe punishment that God can cleanse our world from the devastation that sin has brought. God is working out a plan to save mankind and bring about the most incredible future imaginable.
