Wildfires Raze 11,000 Acres in California
Firefighters in California are battling to contain what the Los Angeles Times reported as the worst wild fire of the year.
The fire began on Wednesday near Big Bear Lake and has now engulfed 11,000 acres; that’s the size of over 8,300 football fields. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. But authorities are well aware of how it spread: winds of up to 5 miles per hour and dry undergrowth, due to the ongoing drought in the state.
About 500 fire personnel, 32 engines, 5 air tankers, 7 helicopters and an air attack plane were deployed to fight the flames.
