Survey: U.S. Schools Beef Up Safety Measures
In the years surrounding the massacre at Connecticutā€™s Sandy Hook Elementary School, new security measures have been enforced in public schools across the United States, according to a report published by the National Center for Education Statistics on Thursday.
The findings, taken during 2013 and 2014, show an increase in safety measures including the introduction of safety drills and parent notification systems.
The survey found that 88 percent of public schools now have a written plan for emergency procedures in case of a school shooting. Seven out of 10 schools have drills to practice the plan.
Three quarters of schools currently use security cameras, and 43 percent have a security guard on the premise at least once a week.
