The World—Beyond the Gridlock

The World—Beyond the Gridlock

World powers are stuck in gridlock. How will it all end?

Sometimes a headline from one of the more articulate think tanks can lead to a genuine take on an event. Such was the case with Stratfor’s recent observations on the effect of the U.S. election on international affairs.

After the Election, a Gridlocked World,” headlined Stratfor on November 8.

The introduction to the article that followed read, “The American election is over, and things remain pretty much as they were. For Americans, the quadrennial election is a time of self-absorption, as insults hurled by each side are obsessed over while the rest of the world is treated with a degree of indifference. Thus, it is time to consider the state of the rest of the world, beginning with the two other pillars of the international system, Europe and China,”

What is interesting to students of Bible prophecy is that Stratfor should isolate Europe and China as being, in addition to the U.S., the “two other pillars of the international system.” This is the post-Cold War perspective that has emerged since the fall of the Berlin Wall and the implosion of the Soviet Union over 20 years ago.

Your Bible not only reveals these two entities will constitute the two main global markets at the time just prior to Jesus Christ’s return (Isaiah 23:1-3, 13), but also that they are the two great powers that clash at the climax of the close of this age—a German-led European Union and the Chinese-dominated Far Eastern bloc (Daniel 11:44).

Yet one of these powers has arisen far in advance of the other in terms of its influence over a whole continent—Germany. Unlike the Eastern hordes, Germany is given very specific reference in Bible prophecy as to its methods of gaining continental power in Europe and its attempts to extend that power into the wider global arena.

In Isaiah 10 we read that Assyria—the ancient biblical name for modern Germany—gains and holds power just prior to Christ’s return to this Earth by four primary means. In that chapter God declares of Germany: “I will punish the fruit of the stout heart of the king of Assyria, and the glory of his high looks. For he says, By the strength of my hand I have done it, and by my wisdom; for I am prudent” (verses 12-13).

Here is the national attitude of today’s Germany described to a T. Many an article has been published revealing that Germany believes that it is by the prudence of the German people that it has gained ascendency economically over the rest of Europe. In fact, the Germans have held their economy up as a model for all Europe to follow. One only has to consider German attitudes to Greece to discover the “glory of his high looks” as the nation boasts of having achieved its dominant status by the strength of its own hand and its own unique Teutonic wisdom.

There’s no doubt that the renewed belief in German superiority that has emerged in the Fatherland over recent years has become firmly entrenched, powerfully affecting German attitudes to its neighbors.

The second prophetically revealed method by which German elites have worked to enable future imperial dominance over Europe is revealed in the phrase, “and I have removed the bounds of the people” (verse 13).

The elimination of national borders to be replaced by regional boundaries has been a long-term goal of German elites. Check an official European Union map and there are no national borders represented, just a plethora of regional boundaries. This arrangement allows for the collectivization of regional zones to be each placed under its unique administration in the future, with national loyalties subsumed by enforced loyalty to the future imperial head. Your Bible prophesies that 10 such zones will comprise the final outcome of this removal of national boundaries in Europe.

The same verse in Isaiah 10 prophesies of a third way that Germany has used to consolidate its dominance of nations. It has “robbed their treasures.”

Here is a classic prophecy about the effects of the euro on Europe. While driving much of Europe into penury, the euro has worked to enhance Germany’s export economy most powerfully at the expense of the rest of the continent.

Greece is a special case in this instance.

In World War ii, Nazi Germany plundered the nation and shot up whole villages full of Greek people. Seventy years later, the Greeks have received not one penny in reparations.

Having knowingly invited Greece to enter the eurozone when its economy did not fit the criteria for membership, the German elites are now squeezing the life blood out of Greece, at the same time as sending in the German industrialists to buy up Greek industrial and commercial assets at fire sale prices.

Other nations will follow this pattern.

The fourth way in which the Assyrians are prophesied to deal with whole national populations, even as they did during World War ii, is to “put down the inhabitants, akin to many people” (verse 13; correct translation—see King James Version marginal reference).

Numerous commentators have called the European Union “the most undemocratic of institutions.” The German-dominated EU is administered by a battery of unelected technocrats who enact legislation with no specific input from the people. End-time prophecy denotes that Germany’s demographic problem of declining population will literally be dealt with by the enforced enslavement of whole populations.

In Revelation 18:13 we read that the king of the north trades in “slaves and the souls of men.” There could hardly be a closer match to Isaiah 10.

This overwhelming enforcement of Germanic power at the time of the prophesied Great Tribulation leads to a fifth way in which Germany, ancient Assyria, will seize power in Europe on the road to global dominance. It is summarized in Isaiah 10:14: “And my hand hath found as a nest the riches of the people: and as one gathereth eggs that are left, have I gathered all the earth; and there was none that moved the wing, or opened the mouth, or peeped.”

Comparing this verse with that in Revelation 13:16-17, we see a global power prophesied to possess huge economic clout, one that plunders the nations that are part of its Holy Roman imperial possessions, that literally dictates who will eat to survive, and that rules to such an extent by tyrannical fear that none dare open the mouth or utter a peep in opposition!

It really is time to stop pussyfooting around with this EU monolith, and declare the facts as they are and as they will be in the not-too-distant, and very dark future.

Unless we do that, we shall never see the light that burns brightly on the other side of this terrible prophesied global woe. The fact that it is one of the greatest of signs pointing to the return of Jesus Christ to put down all tyranny forever, and usher in the greatest government of peace and divine love this world has ever witnessed!

Egyptians Push for Sharia Law

In November over 10,000 protestors stormed Tahrir Square in Cairo, calling for Islamic Sharia law to play a more prominent role in the drafting of Egypt’s new constitution. The current dispute over the wording may not even matter in the end, since the panel responsible for drafting the constitution is led by the Muslim Brotherhood. Egypt’s president Mohammed Morsi is also a member of the Brotherhood, and in recent weeks he hasn’t exactly concealed his hostility toward Israel.

Spain Provokes Gibraltar

Spain is waving its flag in Gibraltar’s face.

Spain has repeatedly tried to claim authority over the waters around Gibraltar, prompting Britain to summon the Spanish ambassador on November 15. In one of the “provocative incursions,” Gibraltar’s police had to rescue a civilian Gibraltarian boat from a Spanish customs vessel.

“These incursions constitute a frontal challenge and an affront to British sovereignty and are intolerable,” said Gibraltar’s government in a statement. “It is clear that the continuing breach of international law has now gone beyond the issue of diplomatic notes.”

“The UK has repeatedly made diplomatic protests to Spain over attempts by Spanish state authorities to exercise jurisdiction in British Gibraltar Territorial Waters,” said the minister for Europe, David Lidington.

On November 13 a large Spanish ship “conducted a prominent patrol” through the area, he said. “Later on the same day a Spanish customs vessel sought to apprehend a Gibraltarian civilian boat … forcing the Royal Gibraltar Police to intervene in order to safeguard the welfare of the four occupants,” he continued.

Spain’s actions seemed designed to deliberately provoke. An earlier statement from the Gibraltarian governor’s office reported that the large Spanish ship was flying an “over-sized Spanish ensign.” Gibraltar’s media wrote that the same ship, the corvette Vencedora, entered British Gibraltar Territorial Waters last week. The papers report that the Vencedora sailed up and down the length of the Bay of Gibraltar.

Spain was defiantly waving a large flag in Gibraltar’s face.

Spain is trying to whip up a storm over Gibraltar. Why now? It could be because they think Britain is weak and will back down. Or they could be taking a leaf out of Argentina’s book, attacking Britain as a way to distract the populace from the economy.

Watch Spanish pushiness over Gibraltar. Bible prophecy says the Britain will give it up.

EU Needs Military to Become a Superpower, Says Poland

Five nations want the EU to collaborate more on defense.

Europe needs a new military structure to coordinate its combined operations, five EU nations said in a joint communique after a meeting in Paris on November 15. The foreign and defense ministers of France, Germany, Italy, Poland and Spain published the document to “confirm our readiness to foster an ambitious European policy in the field of security and defense.”

Poland’s foreign minister Radek Sikorski was surprisingly clear on his reasons for wanting a military. “If the EU wants to become a superpower, and Poland supports this, then we must have the capability to exert influence in our neighborhood. … Sometimes we must use force to back our diplomacy,” he said, according to the EU Observer.

The communique praised the military actions the EU has taken already, but made it clear that Europe must do more. Europe, they wrote, “must take share of responsibility to respond more actively to the challenges ahead.”

“By mobilizing all its civilian and military instruments, the European Union must be able to deal with complex, multi-actor and multidimensional crises,” they wrote. They called for “true civilian-military structures to plan and conduct missions.”

They emphasized the need to work together on expensive projects such as “space, ballistic-missile defense, drones” and more. They also called for better defense spending coordination between member states.

This coordination is key for Europe to emerge as a formidable military force. Combined, the 27 EU nations spend nearly $300 billion on their militaries. If they can coordinate this spending, rather than duplicating the same projects across 27 nations, the EU’s military strength will be vastly improved.

Their communique says that this push for defense cooperation should “be considered as part of a larger process towards further European political integration.”

For years, the Trumpet warned that EU leaders wanted to create a superstate with real military power. Now you don’t need to believe us. The Polish foreign minister has said so.

EU Reaches Out to Latin America for Economic Help

On Friday, Latin American leaders met with their Spanish and Portuguese counterparts in Cadiz, Spain, for the annual Iberoamerican summit. The main topic on the agenda was Europe’s desire to enroll Latin American nations into helping Europe overcome its economic maladies.

Until recently, Latin American countries have largely been economic weaklings in need of aid. Now, however, the former European colonies are becoming stronger, and migration has reversed directions with many Europeans leaving their home countries for a better life in Latin America.

The economic downturn in both the eurozone and in the U.S. has decreased demand for goods from Latin American countries, but the European states are determined to reverse course with help from Latin American nations, and by making strides toward unification among themselves.

Decades ago, Herbert W. Armstrong predicted both of these trends. As early as May 1962, the Plain Truth magazine issued this warning: “Germany’s plans in South America were temporarily halted by its defeat in World War ii. … ‘South America will be conquered by business agents, not by guns!’” (quoting T.H. Teten’s Germany Plots With the Kremlin; emphasis added throughout). Mr. Armstrong knew far in advance that communism would fail to entice the Latinos and that British and American influence would dwindle. He knew it was Europe that would ultimately achieve its long-term goal of economic and religious domination of Latin America. Today, Europe has significantly achieved that goal.

At the summit on Friday, Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Garcia-Margallo explained the other facet of the solution to Europe’s problems: “The European crisis is not an economic crisis but a political one. If we compare our public debts to those of the U.S., ours are better. But the investors prefer to invest in the U.S. and not in the eurozone, because they don’t trust our will to stay together (in Europe).”

The foreign minister’s assessment is eerily similar it is to a forecast Mr. Armstrong made in 1984. He wrote that a massive banking crisis in America “could suddenly result in triggering European nations to unite as a new world power larger than either the Soviet Union or the U.S.” (co-worker letter, July 22, 1984). The U.S. has already suffered a banking crisis to some extent, and the EU sees that political union among its members is the remedy for Europe’s economic trouble, as evidenced by Garcia-Margallo’s statement on Friday.

Expect Europe to continue making inroads into its former Latin American colonies, and to maintain its quest for unification. To understand more about Mr. Armstrong’s predictions and the speed with which they are coming to pass, read He Was Right.

The Alarm Sounds in Jerusalem

Thoughts about what we heard tonight during the rocket attack.

For most of the week, Jerusalem is really noisy. That’s one reason why I love Friday nights. It’s so quiet. Tonight, though, was an obvious exception. It started around sunset, with the deafening sound of air raid sirens. That lasted for less than a minute. Then, moments after the alarm stopped, we heard two distinct thuds in the distance—they were bombs that exploded about seven miles from our apartment.

After that, we heard the most disconcerting sound of all: Palestinians celebrating explosions that were happening in their own city. It was sobering reminder of how deep and bitter the division is within Jerusalem.

Earlier today, thousands of angry Palestinians rallied across the West Bank in a show of support for their brethren in Gaza. This was the tense scene at the Damascus Gate here in Jerusalem:

Judging by these images—and the sounds we heard coming from East Jerusalem tonight—it surely won’t be that much longer before this city explodes in violence, just as God prophesied in Zechariah 14: “Behold, the day of the Lord cometh, and thy spoil shall be divided in the midst of thee. For I will gather all nations against Jerusalem to battle; and the city shall be taken, and the houses rifled, and the women ravished; and half of the city shall go forth into captivity, and the residue of the people shall not be cut off from the city” (verse 1-2).

Here Zechariah gives us the big overview of prophesied events at the end of this age. He starts with the Day of the Lord and works backward. First, God says, I will gather all nations against Jerusalem to battle. This refers to when Jesus Christ will gather the armies of this world just before He sets foot on the Mount of Olives.

But before that happens, it says Jerusalem shall be taken, and the houses rifled, and the women ravished. This refers to the European king of the north conquering Jerusalem after it smashes the Islamic king of the south.

And before all of that, God says half of Jerusalem will go into captivity. This refers to the Islamic conquest of East Jerusalem.

That is what’s prophesied to happen next in Jerusalem. And you can hear it coming if you listen closely. But take heart, because this noisy and violent split of Jerusalem will trigger a series of events that culminate in the return of Jesus Christ to this Earth!
