Why All the Hatred for the Royal Family?

The outpouring of love and regard for the royal family after the death of the Queen has been remarkable. An estimated 4 billion people watched her funeral—clearly it’s not just the United Kingdom that held her in high regard.

But the outpouring of hate, from a small minority, has also been remarkable.

The radical-left media in the United States seems as though it cannot mention the Queen without trying to smear her.

“I Won’t Cry Over the Death of a Violent Oppressor” was the title of one piece in the New York Times shortly after the Queen’s death. It was an interview with Carnegie Mellon linguistics professor Uju Anya. They wanted to ask her about her tweet: “I heard the chief monarch of a thieving raping genocidal empire is finally dying. May her pain be excruciating.” She told the magazine that “her throne represents … the legacy of enslavement and colonialism.”

nbc and Britain’s far-left Guardian newspaper also amplified this obscure academic, giving her interviews.

U.S. television outlets repeatedly bring up “ties to slavery” and “colonialism.” msnbc told its viewers that the Queen “represented an institution that had a long and ugly history of brutal colonialism, violence, theft and slavery.” Given that the Royal Navy was arguably the greatest anti-slavery force in the history of the world, that’s a bit of a stretch. But this is not a one-off.

cnn’s Christine Amanpour angrily told viewers that “the wealth of these people was derived from the Empire”—a statement that is factually untrue, given that the Empire was a net cost to Britain, not a source of wealth.

The View hosts said that “the monarchy was built on the backs of black and brown people.” msnbc said the Queen symbolizes racism and “represented white supremacy.” And when the New York Times covered the magnificent funeral, it focused on its “hefty price tag.”

This is the same news media that called the terrorist Qassem Suleimani an “austere religious scholar”; they were so desperate to present him in a positive light when he died.

What is going here? As others have pointed out, nowhere else in the world produced such negative coverage. Neither the Russian nor European news media are trying to argue the Queen was a racist white supremacist. Why are the radicals in Britain’s supposed friend and ally, the U.S.?

The same radical-left media worked hard to amplify the attacks by Meghan the duchess of Sussex on the royal family—despite the fact that many of these accusations were demonstrably false. The Washington Post called the royal family “a predominantly white institution with a racist past,” adding that “racism continues to seep through every facet of British royal life.” The New York Times claimed that Meghan’s accusations showed “that the British monarchy is a toxic den of backbiting and racism.”

Though they’ve been diplomatic enough to hide it at the time of the Queen’s death, the Obama and now Biden administrations have pushed America in an anti-British direction. Barack Obama famously kicked Winston Churchill’s bust out of the White House when he moved in. He and Hillary Clinton both worked hard to oppose Brexit and keep Britain in the European Union. Obama promised that Britain would be at “the back of the queue” when it came to trade deals.

Under Biden, the same policy is back. An anonymous official told the Telegraph that Britain had given up trade with the U.S., faced with “the reality that Biden is not doing any deals.”

There’s a very anti-British spirit at work behind the upper echelons of the radical left in America. And it has a special hatred for the royal family.

“The division developing between our nations is a deadly weakness,” wrote Trumpet editor in chief Gerald Flurry last year. “It’s a weakness the radical left and especially Barack Obama have spent years creating and exploiting.”

One of the key prophecies for understanding what is going on in Britain and America is 2 Kings 14:26, which states: “For the Lord saw the affliction of Israel, that it was very bitter: for there was not any shut up, nor any left, nor any helper for Israel.” As Herbert W. Armstrong proved in The United States of Britain in Prophecy, Britain and the U.S. are among the modern descendants of ancient Israel.

There is a spirit at work that hates Israel—because Israel has a history with God. It points people back to God and how He plans to work with all mankind.

The royal family in Britain also pointed back to God and His plan, as Mr. Flurry explained in last week’s Trumpet Brief. Hence, they are a special focus of attack.

“People are creating and aggravating divisions within America and Britain—regarding race, class, politics and anything else they can think of. Now they are sowing divisions between these two nations,” wrote Mr. Flurry. “Splitting Britain and America apart from one another means that they cannot help each other.”

“Threats in the world are increasing,” he continued. “Other nations are betraying and attacking America and Britain and Israel. Many Bible prophecies show these trends will intensify. In a world this hostile, Britain, America and the Jewish nation of Israel need to stick together and to turn toward God. But they are splitting from God and from each other. There will be no helper for Israel—not even from other modern Israelite nations.”

In driving apart these nations, the radical left is making them weaker. And they are smearing and dragging through the mud an institution that could bring the world a tangible, practical, biblical hope for the future. That is the real agenda behind these attacks.
