The Hunt for Timothy Hunt

What it says about the state of higher education today

Listen to the Trumpet Daily radio program that aired on September 3.

In less than 48 hours, British biochemist and Nobel Prize winner in Physiology and Medicine, Timothy Hunt’s career was in shambles. He was abruptly fired from his position at University College London after making a self-deprecating joke in front of a group of female reporters. Reporters took his off-the-cuff comments out of context and posted about them on social media. Hunt went from being a universally loved and respected figure in the world of science and academia to an instant pariah. On today’s show, Stephen Flurry, discusses the problems and paradoxes that plague modern academia.
