Philippines Prepares for More Rain

While America lies prostrate from excessive heat and extreme drought, the Philippines struggles to keep its head above floodwaters caused by monsoon rains. More than 90 people are dead.

Beginning August 5, nonstop rains have drenched the capital city of Manila, causing the worst flooding since 2009. By August 9, more than half of the city was submerged during the peak of flooding that caused schools and business offices to close for days. Now the city is bracing for more.

The garbage-loaded floodwaters clogged streets and waterways, virtually shutting down Manila. cnn reported that more than 2.4 million people in 144 municipalities have been affected by the weather so far. More than 3,100 homes have been damaged. cnn forecaster Mari Ramos said, “It could take days or even weeks for the waters to recede in the lower lying areas.”

Communities hit hardest by the floods resemble a wasteland covered with mud and debris.

With the rain continuing in north and central Luzon (the island where Manila is located), flash floods and landslides are expected. While heavy rains and flooding are normally expected during the summer monsoon season, the tropical storms Saola and Haikui have made conditions far worse. Heavy rains have drenched this Pacific island nation for two consecutive weeks.

Weather forecasters say Tropical Storm Helen is expected to hit the northern Philippines. Winds from the approaching tropical storm are expected to stir up monsoon rain clouds that will dump even more rain onto Manila.

Rescue personnel and evacuation centers have been taxed to the limit. Preparations are in process to evacuate people affected by Tropical Storm Helen. Luzon’s evacuees who had returned home are likely to need shelter again as floodwaters swell again with the coming storm.

What’s behind this major flood disaster in the Philippines?

Let us give you a quote from our booklet Why ‘Natural’ Disasters?

Could it be that God is indeed employing nature as His “unlimited broadcasting station”? That He is cursing our weather patterns and increasing the destructiveness of natural circumstances in an attempt to communicate with us? The Bible shows that this is exactly what He is doing. It shows that He is currently delivering a message via nature that we all desperately need to hear and respond to!The disasters we see increasing are in fact a tool that the Creator of the natural world has reserved for Himself, to use at His pleasure—in order to speak with us! After all, we don’t tend to listen very well. But severe natural phenomena are impossible to ignore.Yet for most people, even as our planet is coming apart, the message is still not resonating. The question is, are you prepared to listen?

Be sure to either download or write for a copy of this booklet. It thoroughly explains why our world is experiencing so many natural disasters.
