Half of workers risk destitution
A new poll reveals that it wouldn’t take much to send most people to skid row. More than a third of U.S. workers would be broke after only one week without work. For half of all workers, their savings would last for only a month if they lost their jobs.
The new data illustrates how precarious America’s economic “recovery” really is.
Here is the actual Monster.com poll results for the question: “If you were laid off without severance, how long would your savings cover your living expenses?” Monster.com is a leading global online career and recruitment resource.
As theTrumpet.com wrote earlier this month, the unemployment dam is breaking. One and a half million Americans are scheduled to lose unemployment benefits by September. And the unemployment situation is set to get worse, according to new revised estimates from the White House. The Obama administration now thinks that official unemployment will peak at 10 percent in 2010. In May, the administration egregiously estimated that unemployment would average 8.1 percent this year. The jobless rate currently stands at 9.7 percent and the average for the year is now predicted to be closer to 9.3 percent.
The time has come where we will have to reduce our standard of living.
