20 Percent of London’s Crime Committed by Foreigners

More than a fifth of crimes in London were committed by foreign citizens in the first half of the year.

More than 20 percent of crimes in London were committed by foreign citizens in the first half of this year, according to a police report.

In the first six months of the year, there were 22,793 crimes for which a foreigner was charged in Britain’s capital. More than a fourth were violent crimes such as assault and murder. The statistics included almost 6,000 drug offenses and hundreds of sex crimes, robberies and burglaries.

Seven EU member nations ranked in the list of the top 20 nations from which the foreigners come from. Poland ranked number one on the list, with Jamaicans, Irish and Somalis following behind.

The report will highlight debate about Britain’s immigration policy. Ministers of Britain’s current administration claim the large influx of foreign nationals benefits the economy significantly. However, other members of parliament are concerned with the figures.

“This is a fairly shocking side effect of the lack of control of our borders and the sheer numbers of people coming to Britain,” says Damien Green, shadow immigration minister.

This same problem affects other nations as well, and for similar reasons. The United States is in the middle of a national debate over the effect that high levels of immigration—both legal and illegal—are having on the country.

While many people hail the supposedly unmitigated benefits of multiculturalist policies like liberal immigration law, facts like those exposed in this police report should give us pause.
