Iran Deploys Troops Into Iraq

Iran’s latest act of aggression sends Revolutionary Guard government troops to combat British and U.S. forces in southern Iraq.

Iranian soldiers crossed the Iraqi border early last week to fight British and U.S. forces in an apparent act of war, according to the London Sun. The move comes just three months after Iran kidnapped 15 Royal Navy sailors in late March.

debkafile reported that Tehran’s June 24 and 25 infiltration was intended to position fighters for suicide attacks against British and American troops.

According to the Sun, British troops spotted the Iranians on radar as they crossed the border into empty desert. The report said the incursion had been confirmed by unnamed senior military sources. “We have hard proof that the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps have crossed the border to attack us,” the source said.

Not only have Iranian government troops crossed the border, but they are also thought to have planted bombs that killed two British soldiers.

Previously it was thought that the Iranian Revolutionary Guard limited its warfare against coalition forces to training Shiite fighters inside Iraq and arming them with weapons, including advanced bombs, rockets and mortars that have killed 44 more British troops. The Revolutionary Guard was also responsible for the March kidnapping.

In response to the Sun report, a Ministry of Defense spokeswoman admitted, “There is evidence that explosive devices used against our troops in southern Iraq originated in Iran.”

“Any Iranian link to armed militias in Iraq, either through weapons supply, training or funding, are unacceptable,” she said.

Commentators have blasted London for standing idly by and “bleating” while Tehran engages in deliberate, barely disguised warfare.

“It is an extremely alarming development and raises the stakes considerably,” a Sun intelligence source said of this latest discovery. “In effect, it means we are in a full-on war with Iran, but nobody has officially declared it.”

Some would say the term “full-on war” is inaccurate, since Britain appears to only absorb Iranian attacks.

“It is very hard for us to strike back,” the Suns military source said. “All we can do is try to defend ourselves. We are badly on the back foot.”
