America’s Democratic Party is being cannibalized by radicals. The Democratic Socialists of America want to abolish the Constitution. They are waging war on moderate and establishment party leaders. And astoundingly, a new poll finds Democrats who back them outnumber those who oppose them 2 to 1.

• A recent Quinnipiac University poll found 59 percent of Democrats say they support the dsa, versus just 30 percent who don’t.

The dsa’s platform, released in June, is openly hostile toward America’s founding principles: “We are workers fighting to transform society: to win the battle for democracy, draft a new constitution, and create a democratic socialist republic.” A few specifics:

• Democratic Socialists aim to abolish the Electoral College and replace the president and Supreme Court with an executive and judiciary “chosen by and subordinate to Congress.”
• They seek to strip police budgets on the way to “fully abolishing the police and prison system,” and abolish ice while granting “amnesty for all immigrants regardless of status.”

Mainstream Democrats claim to be moderate, but in truth they have spent years moving toward these same flawed notions: Defund the police, make housing a “right,” insist “no human is illegal.” The dsa has just made these views its platform.

• In a House resolution this month denouncing socialism and the dsa specifically, only eight Democrats out of more than 250 voted yea.

What’s under attack—the Electoral College, an independent judiciary, borders enforced by law—exists because America’s founders distrusted concentrated power and built limits that were meant to survive even if a majority wanted to vote them away.

Ironically, Americans are following our forebears in a sense. The children of Israel, our ancestors, had a government unlike any nation on Earth: Their King was God. They asked to trade it away, telling the Prophet Samuel they wanted a human king “that we also may be like all the nations” (1 Samuel 8:20).

• Today, more and more Americans want to discard the constraints on human government and to sacrifice the freedoms that have helped make this nation so exceptional, such a driver of prosperity, innovation and liberty—and make it like “all the nations.”

Thomas Jefferson believed a republic can survive only as long as its citizens are trained to love it—and that instilling this love “ought to be the principal business of education.” Stop teaching why the Constitution exists, and nothing is left to defend it.

• The hostility of a growing number of Americans—including the emerging mainstream of one of the nation’s two main political parties—toward our founding ideals proves Jefferson right.

German Election a Catastrophe for Merz

German chancellor Friedrich Merz faced another set of disastrous elections on Sunday. In the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, his party faces annihilation.

• Exit polls put them at just 5.5 percent of the vote. If they fall below 5 percent in the actual results, they will receive no seats in the state parliament—an epic collapse for a party that was the state’s largest two decades ago.

Instead, the far-right Alternative für Deutschland party has gained a narrow victory. It is projected to beat the Social Democrats by 1.5 percent.

Meanwhile in Berlin, the Left party—the rebranded Communist party of East Germany—won the largest share of the vote and will probably provide the mayor.

• The Left is every bit as radical as the AfD. In fact, their victory prompted Josef Schuster, president of the Central Council of Jews in Germany, to speak out. The Left has called for an “intifada” against Israel and had crowds chant “Death to the idf” at campaign rallies.

Addressing the nation just after the exit polls were published, Merz confessed that the results “cannot be sugarcoated and … are a disaster.” He was due to travel to the U.S. this week to address the UN and receive an award but canceled the trip to stay home and fight for his political survival.

Europe is waking up to the danger posed by a militarily strong Germany, where the AfD is gaining massive support. “Germany’s military rebuild is making its neighbors nervous,” warned the Wall Street Journal over the weekend. Germany’s fast-paced rearmament is rekindling a century-old debate about how much hard power Berlin should have.

• The unease is becoming more acute as the AfD tops opinion polls. This party has embraced Moscow and wants to end what it calls Germany’s “culture of guilt” around its Nazi-era crimes.

Parts of what is now Poland belonged to Germany before World War ii, and AfD politicians have indicated they want it back. Fifteen years ago, Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski said, “I fear German power less than I am beginning to fear German inactivity.” Now he’s singing a different tune: “We remember all too well where a rearmed Germany in the hands of a far-right, pro-Russian party can lead.”

Meanwhile, Germany is building up its own arms industry and doing little to share the wealth with other European arms manufacturers.

“Germany wants to claim leadership; it isn’t always making great efforts in keeping its partners happy,” said former nato Assistant Secretary General Camille Grand.

Germany is rising fast. With the nation once again descending into political chaos as before the Nazis came to power, it could have a strongman in place quickly. NATO Appoints Top German Military Officer to Lead Role

Carsten Breuer, chief of Defense of the German Armed Forces, will become the next chair of the nato Military Committee once the incumbent, Adm. Giuseppe Cavo Dragone, leaves office next July, nato members decided on Saturday. This is the first time a German will occupy the post since 2005.

• He will be nato’s senior military officer for three years, advising the secretary general.
• The German Press Agency said the person in this job “is considered one of the most influential military figures in nato.”

As Germany’s top military officer, Breuer has worked to make Germany war-ready by 2029, as he believes Russia could attack nato territory by then. He will likely use this role to prepare the rest of Europe for war by 2029.

• German Chancellor Friedrich Merz stated on social media after the decision, “We are grateful for the trust our allies place in us.”

This is a great deal of trust in Germany. Figures like Breuer represent the German general staff that Allied leaders worked to prevent from rising again after World War ii.

• Now Breuer will be in a senior position directing nato—the organization founded with the purpose of “keeping the Russians out, the Americans in and the Germans down,” according to its first secretary general, Lord Hastings Ismay.

This trust is misplaced. Bible prophecy warns against Germany holding such leading roles over Europe. That nation will end up leading a war-ready Europe against America.

American Singles See Marriage as Obsolete

Half of American singles haven’t gone on a single date this past year, and more than half aren’t sure they’d want to date their “perfect match” even if he showed up, a new poll suggests. After surveying 4,952 single Americans, the Kinsey Institute released its annual “Singles in America” study on September 14, revealing some startling findings:

• 48 percent of respondents had not gone on a single in-person date in the previous year. Another 11 percent had been on one date.
• 52 percent said they are happier when they are not in a relationship. Only 16.3 percent described themselves as actively seeking a committed relationship.
• The poll asked what they would do if their perfect relationship partner showed up. Just 46 percent said they would date the person, 29 percent said they weren’t sure, and 25 percent said they would still rather remain single.

Generations of Americans have struggled to build strong marriages and families. But the current generation is abandoning the struggle and treating the core institution of human life as if it were outdated. They are choosing to avoid marriage and family altogether.

Why Marriage—Soon Obsolete? as Herbert W. Armstrong asked in his booklet more than 50 years ago. The concept seemed fanciful then—but a generation or so later, it’s reality. He wrote:

But marriages are not only breaking down all around us; the very usefulness and desirability of the custom is being seriously questioned! Is marriage on the way out, after all these generations and centuries? Is the home, and family life, to disappear from human society?

This was a shocking claim to many readers in 1970s America. But now we see this prediction rapidly being fulfilled.

• This is a tragic and lonely state for a nation that originally sought to stand as a shining city on a hill, not only for its strong marriages and families but also for all other biblical Christian virtues.

But even the most pious Americans of the pilgrims’ generation never knew how deep marriage and family go. Family is actually at the heart of the Bible and God’s purpose for mankind.

• The first chapters of Genesis immediately focus on male and female, husband and wife. The Gospels record that the Father revealed Jesus as His Son, and Jesus repeatedly declared the Father (Genesis 2:18; Matthew 11:27; John 1:18).

First German F-35—a promise of German militarism: Celebrating the construction of the first of 35 German F-35s in Texas, where it was assembled, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius stated on Friday that the jet is “a promise that Germany will step up to defend itself and defend its allies.” The last time a unified Germany stepped up its military, World War ii followed.

Iran-linked drone strikes cut oil to Europe: Saudi Aramco told two European oil refiners that they would receive no crude oil in October, Bloomberg reported Friday. That’s largely because on September 10 and 11, Iran-affiliated drones launched from Iraq struck Saudi Arabia’s East-West Pipeline. Since Iran declared the Strait of Hormuz closed in March and began attacking ships in it, Saudi Arabia has relied on the pipeline to transport oil to Europe. Such a shortage will enhance the Europeans’ resolve to forcefully deal with Iran and its allies.
