A Tale of Two Talks

By Richard Palmer • September 18, 2025

It was the best of speeches; it was the worst of speeches.

Donald Trump gave one of my favorite-ever speeches by a U.S. president yesterday, praising the good Britain and America have done for the entire world together. It’s a speech that wasn’t just uplifting and inspiring; it has the potential to point people back to God.

Also yesterday, Barack Obama spoke up about Charlie Kirk, blaming Donald Trump for fostering “extreme views” and a kind of hostile politics, which Obama said he would never tolerate “in my White House.” It’s part of a broader rewriting of history. Leftists are upset about people losing their jobs for celebrating a political assassination. But for years, they didn’t just fire people for what they said; they took people to court for what they would not say. If you refused to affirm their dogmas like homosexual “marriage” or transgenderism, they tried to put you in jail! Finally, someone is standing up to them—and they don’t like it.

Barack Obama continues to try to “blot out the name of Israel,” while Donald Trump, even though he doesn’t realize it, puts that name on proud display to the world.

At a state visit for the ages, a speech worth celebrating: The British royal and political class threw a banquet in Donald Trump’s honor at Windsor Castle last night. Even the tiniest details were tailored to him. The port served dated to 1945, evoking the 45th president, and the cognac was from 1912, the year of his mother’s birth in Scotland (even though Trump doesn’t drink). A British military band played “YMCA” while the Royal Air Force Red Arrows aerobatic team joined U.S. F-35s in a flyby.

President Trump was a gracious guest and gave a speech paying tribute to the British and American relationship:

A fifth of all of humanity speaks, writes, thinks and prays in the language born on these isles and perfected in the pages of Shakespeare and Dickens and Tolkien and Lewis, Orwell and Kipling. Incredible people, unbelievable people like we have rarely seen before, probably won’t see again.

The lionhearted people of this kingdom defeated Napoleon, unleashed the Industrial Revolution, destroyed slavery, and defended civilization in the darkest days of fascism and communism. The British gave the world the Magna Carta, the modern parliament and Francis Bacon’s scientific method. They gave us the works of Locke and Hobbes, Smith and Burke, Newton and Blackstone.

The legal, intellectual, cultural and political traditions of this kingdom have been among the highest achievements of mankind: There has really never been anything like it. The British Empire laid the foundations of law, liberty, free speech and individual rights virtually everywhere the Union Jack has ever flown, including a place called America—you know that place very well, don’t you?

His Majesty spoke eloquently about the bond which inspired Sir Winston Churchill—and the bust is in the Oval Office right now, the beautiful bust of Winston Churchill—to coin the phrase “special relationship.” But seen from American eyes, the word “special” does not begin to do it justice. We’re joined by history and fate, by love and language, and by transcendent ties of culture, tradition, ancestry and destiny. We’re like two notes in one chord or two verses of the same poem, each beautiful on its own, but really meant to be played together.

The bond of kinship and identity between America and the United Kingdom is priceless and eternal. It’s irreplaceable and unbreakable. … Together, we’ve done more good for humanity than any two countries in all of history. Together, we must defend the exceptional heritage that makes us who we are. And we must continue to stand for the values and the people of the English-speaking world.

In a world where British and American history is attacked and belittled from without and from within, it’s refreshing to see someone stand up and unashamedly tell the truth. President Trump fights back against those trying to blot out “the name of Israel.” Britain and America both descended from ancient Israel. Fighting for their history is a major way Trump does this.

Britain and America’s history is a massive signpost that points people to God. Hence the unhinged attacks. We’re told: God didn’t make Britain and America great. Slavery did! They only became wealthy because they stole it from everybody else.

President Trump laid out the true picture. But you can go one step further.

Why have Britain and America “done more good for humanity than any two countries in all of history”? Why are they “two notes in one chord or two verses of the same poem, each beautiful on its own, but really meant to be played together”?

It’s because Britain and America have a history with God. God promised spectacular blessings to our forefather Abraham. He promised spiritual salvation through Jesus Christ, but He also promised wealth, power and greatness to Abraham’s physical descendants. “God chose them not because they were better or because He wanted to give them special favor, but to use them as an example to other nations,” Trumpet editor in chief Gerald Flurry wrote in 2020.

Mr. Armstrong called the blessings given to Britain and America “the strongest proof of the inspiration and authority of the Holy Bible! It is, at the same time, the strongest proof of the very active existence of the living God!” Even though few realize it, Donald Trump’s state visit is putting God’s authority and power on display.

President Trump needs to lead both nations in acknowledging God as the source of those blessings and turning to them. That is the only way to have those blessings return.

You can learn the full story of these nations’ rise to greatness and see God working throughout world history. This year marks the 80th anniversary of the publication of Herbert W. Armstrong’s The United States and Britain Prophecy. That book contains the master key that unlocks all Bible prophecy and brings world news and history to life. We would be happy to send you a free copy.

IN OTHER NEWS

Saudi Arabia and Pakistan signed a mutual defense agreement yesterday. When asked if this brings Saudi Arabia under Pakistan’s nuclear umbrella, a Saudi official responded, “This is a comprehensive defensive agreement that encompasses all military means.” Saudi Arabia fears Iran may get a nuclear weapon, even after Israel and the United States struck its nuclear facilities in June. “President Trump’s Other Nuclear Deal” delves into more detail.

Chinese and Cuban defense ministers met in Beijing on Tuesday. Cuban Defense Minister Álvaro López Miera said he wanted to “raise the level of cooperation between the two countries and the two militaries.” Chinese Defense Minister Dong Jun said he wished to “promote the military relations between the two sides to a new level and jointly build a China-Cuba community with a shared future.” Ongoing collaboration with Communist Cuba gives the Chinese Communist Party an island 90 miles from Florida from which to project power against the United States. This relationship is fulfillment of key Bible prophecies regarding a coming economic siege.

Tariff talks between South Korea and the U.S. have stalled, it was confirmed today. The two nations renegotiated a new trade agreement in July, but it has yet to be officially signed. Meanwhile, tensions have worsened after a September 4 U.S. immigration enforcement raid at a Hyundai-LG factory in Georgia led to the detainment of more than 300 South Koreans. The Trumpet expects South Korea, which has been a treaty ally of the United States for more than 70 years since the Korean War, to break from the U.S. and become part of a hostile Asian power bloc the Bible refers to as the “kings of the east.”

Russia and China to unify … biologically? Russia is suffering a major demographic crisis, with a shortage of men exacerbated by an estimated million-plus men being killed or wounded in its invasion of Ukraine, but a migration of Chinese men seeking to marry Russian women may change the equation. Because of its decades-long one-child policy and cultural preference for male children, its 2024 population statistics showed China has about 30 million more men than women. Now that Russia and China are implementing visa-free policies toward one another, many Chinese men may choose to look north for brides. The Trumpet has forecast a close relationship between China and Russia for years, we just didn’t expect this kind of relationship.

The United States and Britain in Prophecy
People of the Western world would be stunned—dumbfounded—if they knew! The governments of the United States, Britain, Canada, Australasia, South Africa would set in motion gigantic crash programs—if they knew! They could know! But they don’t! Why?
