Trump: We’re Bringing Religion Back

“We’re bringing back religion in our country,” United States President Donald Trump said in a speech commemorating the National Day of Prayer in the White House Rose Garden on Thursday. “We’re bringing it back quickly and strongly—because for America to be a great nation, we must always be ‘one nation under God.’”

National Day of Prayer: America’s National Day of Prayer memorializes the Continental Congress’s first call to prayer in 1775, asking the nation’s colonies to turn to God and pray for wisdom in forming the nation, one year before the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

It also commemorates other national calls to prayer, such as President Abraham Lincoln’s proclamation for a day of “humiliation, fasting and prayer” during the Civil War in 1863. There have been 151 national calls to prayer, humiliation, fasting and thanksgiving by U.S. presidents.

As the American people turn to God in prayer, we continue a tradition older than our independence itself. Nearly 250 years ago on June 12, 1775, the Continental Congress appointed a day of fasting and prayer so that Americans fighting for their liberty could seek the help of the Almighty. …

In a letter to wife Abigail, [President] John Adams wrote, of his first National Day of Prayer, “Millions will be upon their knees at once before their great Creator, imploring His forgiveness and blessing and asking for His favor on the American cause.” Today … in the heart of a free and proud America, we rejoice that God answered those prayers.

Church and State: President Trump also talked about doing away with the separation of church and state:

They said separation of church and state, they told me. I said, let’s forget about that for one time. We said, really? Separation? Is that a good thing or a bad thing? I’m not sure.

During the ceremony, President Trump also signed an executive order establishing a Religious Liberty Commission of church clergy, legal experts and Trump allies to identify any “threat to domestic religious liberty.” This order follows his creation of a White House Faith Office in February, which aims to uphold religious liberty and prevent legal discrimination.

President Trump told religious leaders at the event on Wednesday, “Whether there’s separation or not, you guys are in the White House where you should be, and you’re representing our country.”

As we defend religious freedom in America, we are also standing up against religious persecution around the world. … As we bow our heads on this beautiful day, once again we have to trust our God because our God knows exactly where we’re going … and may He continue to hear our prayers, to guide our steps, and build up our beloved nation to even greater heights.

King’s chapel: Before Trump’s reelection, Trumpet editor in chief Gerald Flurry forecast that he would return to office and have a strong religious following. Mr. Flurry based his forecast off Bible prophecy.

In 2 Kings 14 and Amos 7, the Bible prophesies of an end-time, Jeroboam-type leader, whom Mr. Flurry identified as Donald Trump. Amos 7:13 says this leader will have backing from a “king’s chapel,” or religious following.
