China, U.S. Argue Over Trade Negotiations
Chinese and United States officials have gone back and forth concerning whether the two sides are negotiating a trade deal.
- On Wednesday, President Trump told reporters at the White House that they were “actively” negotiating on trade.
- The next morning, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun insisted that this claim was “fake news.”
- Trump responded on Thursday, insisting that the two sides had a meeting hours before.
Trump: “Well, they had a meeting this morning, so.”
Reporter: “Who’s ‘they?”
Trump: “Doesn’t matter who ‘they’ is. We may reveal it later. They had meetings this morning. We’ve been meeting with China.”
Neither China nor the U.S. are showing signs of backing down in their massive trade war. Recently, Chinese General Secretary Xi Jinping said his country is “not afraid” of escalating this war.
Prophesied clash: Whether soaring trade tensions will ease up or escalate remains to be seen. But the Bible prophesied long ago that China and its allies would engage in a history-altering trade war in the lead-up to actual war—the most devastating one mankind has ever suffered.
