Trump Begs Putin to Stop Attacking Ukraine
Russia fired a barrage of missiles and drones on Kyiv, Ukraine, this morning that killed at least 12 civilians, including six children, and wounded 90 others. The attack comes as United States President Donald Trump is pressuring Russia and Ukraine to accept a peace deal.
- Russia reportedly fired 70 missiles and 145 drones into Kyiv beginning around 1 a.m.
- Some of the missiles were North Korean ballistic models.
- The barrage continued for almost 11 hours, striking five neighborhoods in the Ukrainian capital.
- It was the largest attack on Kyiv in nine months.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy cut short an official visit to South Africa to return to the affected city, calling the attack “one of the most outrageous.”
Condemnation: The attack on civilians elicited condemnation from various European leaders, including French President Emmanuel Macron, who demanded that Russia “stop lying” that it wants peace.
Kaja Kallas, the European Union’s foreign-policy chief, said, “While claiming to seek peace, Russia launched a deadly air strike on Kyiv. This isn’t a pursuit of peace, it’s a mockery of it.”
“Vladimir, stop!”: Following the attack, President Trump directed a Truth Social post at Russian President Vladimir Putin:
I am not happy with the Russian strikes on Kyiv. Not necessary, and very bad timing. Vladimir, stop! 5,000 soldiers a week are dying. Let’s get the peace deal done!
Impotent: As President Trump blames Ukraine for instigating and perpetuating the war and pleads with Putin to stop killing civilians, Putin appears to be mocking U.S. peace efforts. The U.S. is being exposed as impotent on the global stage, and Putin is taking the opportunity to exploit American weakness.
These events give a clear look at the ineffectual results of man’s attempts to bring peace. To understand, read “Does Donald Trump Know the Way to Peace?”
