Everyone Wants Nukes, Germany Passes Constitutional Change, Trump Gets Tougher on Iran

By Joel Hilliker • March 21, 2025

Read Josué Michels’s article this morning, “Germany Is Back in Syria,” for analysis of yesterday’s news about Germany opening its embassy in Damascus. This is a sensational step toward the fulfillment of the alliance, prophesied in Psalm 83, between these two disparate nations.

Everyone wants nukes: “A new nuke wave washes over the world,” Axios wrote on Wednesday. In country after country, discussion and action aimed at acquiring or boosting nuclear capability is increasing—heightening the threat of nuclear World War III. “Decades of order now feel disordered. Proliferation is again a kitchen-table topic; your parents are probably sending you headlines right now,” says Axios.

  • The Federation of American Scientists warns that China has “significantly expanded” its program by “fielding more types and greater numbers of nuclear weapons than ever before.”
  • Europe feels it can no longer count on America’s nuclear umbrella. Germany, Italy, Belgium, Turkey and the Netherlands have access to U.S. nukes. But Germany isn’t satisfied; it is demanding access to other European nukes or considering building its own. France has agreed to share its nukes. Poland also wants a piece of the nuclear pie.
  • South Korea, squeezed between two nuclear powers and questioning U.S. support, is considering the nuclear option.
  • Japan, a major aggressor in World War II, says that if South Korea can get nukes, it can too.
  • Terrorist-sponsoring Iran is extremely close to nuclear weapons of its own and has thus far rejected Western pressure to back off.

Our world has been so desensitized to this topic that we fail to comprehend the stakes. Are we ready for a nuclear 9/11? Bible prophecy reveals that this is exactly what is coming. Read it in Gerald Flurry’s booklet Nuclear Armageddon Is ‘At the Door.’

Germany passes constitutional change: It’s official: Today Germany’s Bundesrat, the upper house representing the country’s 16 states, greenlit a constitutional amendment to release the “debt brake,” unleashing a €500 billion spending spree on infrastructure and exempting defense costs over 1 percent of GDP from borrowing limits. The move, already backed by a two-thirds majority in the Bundestag earlier this week, shatters decades of fiscal restraint, aiming to turbocharge Europe’s largest economy and bolster its military amid global uncertainty. It returns Germany to its age-old war business.

Donald Trump gets tougher on Iran: Looks like “maximum pressure” is back. President Trump implemented new sanctions against Iran and its “shadow fleet” of oil-exporting ships. Included in the sanctions was a Chinese “teapot,” or independent refinery, and 19 ships transporting Iranian oil to this refinery. The vast majority of Iran’s crude oil exports go to Chinese refineries. The Biden administration turned a blind eye to Iran’s oil trade, allowing the Islamist regime to generate much-needed foreign revenue to its otherwise battered economy. But the Trump administration appears to be reinstating the “maximum pressure” campaign from President Trump’s first term. This sought to drain Iran’s coffers to limit its ability to sponsor terrorism.

This comes as Trump is authorizing American strikes against Iran’s Houthi proxy in Yemen. As we previously reported, he singled out Iran in his ultimatum to the Houthis. The U.S. government has also had discussions with Israel, Iran’s archnemesis, on Iran’s nuclear program. These various measures against Iran may be part of one coordinated approach. But to what end?

President Trump has repeatedly voiced his desire to strike a new nuclear deal. These different sticks he is applying to Iran could be a means to persuade Iran to go for the carrot. An article in our latest print issue details what is at stake with Iranian nuclear talks.

Khamenei still not having it: Meanwhile, Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei marked Iran’s New Year today with a nationally broadcast speech in Tehran saying, “Americans must know that threats will get them nowhere in confronting the Islamic Republic. If anyone commits villainy against the Iranian people, they will be struck with a harsh slap.” Pushy, pushy!

Netanyahu fires security head: Can Israel’s prime minister fire the chief of the Shin Bet, Israel’s security service? Israel’s activist Supreme Court has said no. But earlier this week, Israel’s prime minister announced his intent to oust Ronen Bar. He posted on X, “In America and in Israel, when a strong right-wing leader wins an election, the leftist deep state weaponizes the justice system to thwart the people’s will. They won’t win in either place! We stand strong together.” Yesterday Israel’s cabinet unanimously approved Bar’s dismissal, and today, the Knesset passed a law granting Netanyahu powers to fire the Shin Bet head and appoint a loyalist to the role. This provides Netanyahu some protection from the judges and cements his control over the Shin Bet moving forward.

Opposition leaders say this new law is a dangerous power grab that undermines the Shin Bet’s independence. Netanyahu’s coalition insists it’s necessary to ensure accountability in the face of rising security threats. Protests have erupted across Tel Aviv, with thousands demanding the bill’s reversal and Netanyahu’s resignation.

China fuming over Trump Panama plan: Donald Trump’s bold push to reassert U.S. control over the Panama Canal has upset China. It slammed it as a “spineless betrayal” of Panama’s sovereignty and a direct challenge to Beijing’s growing influence in Latin America. Beijing has fiercely rejected Trump’s claims of Chinese dominance over the canal, insisting it has no operational role. Now it is reportedly probing the CK Hutchison deal—linked to the canal’s ports—for antitrust and security threats, signaling a potential showdown with the U.S.

This tells you that Panama was in fact violating canal neutrality with its port dealings. If this was just one private company losing out, the Chinese government wouldn’t be taking Trump’s move so personally. The fact that China is making such an outcry shows the Chinese government had serious designs on taking control of the canal—and Panama almost certainly knew of it.

“For China to have control over this strategic waterway located at America’s underbelly is extremely dangerous,” Gerald Flurry wrote in our March print issue. “The fact that President Trump is speaking out so forcefully about this is truly fascinating. China really has made itself into a superpower—in some ways more powerful than the United States. But biblical prophecy indicates that China is probably going to be knocked down a bit, and it is possible that this will be a factor in that happening.”

The stupidity of Tesla sabotage: How ironic that Elon Musk haters are targeting Tesla-owners, most of whom are not MAGA loyalists or corporate tycoons, but environmentally conscious progressives who bought into the EV dream. It’s a stark example of how unchecked emotion can cloud judgment—and of how petulant and even violent people can be when they lack moral restraint.

Nuclear Armageddon Is ‘At the Door’
And so is the greatest event ever to occur in the universe. Matthew 24 was Christ’s most pivotal prophecy when He was on this Earth. So why do Christians of this world fail to understand it?
