Germany Plans Sending Armed Border Guards to Rafah
Berlin is planning the possible deployment of German border protection experts to help staff the Rafah border crossing between the Gaza Strip and Egypt. The reopening of the crossing is part of a three-phase agreement between Hamas and Israel.
To facilitate the deployment, the German government plans to amend a 2005 cabinet decision that previously allowed only unarmed personnel to be sent, the German Press Agency reported citing government circles.
EU mission: The European Union Border Assistance Mission in Rafah was set up in 2005. But since Hamas took power in the Gaza Strip in 2007, no EU personnel have been deployed. Given the current precarious situation, the government considers it necessary that future guards be armed.
The Trumpet says: A German deployment in the Gaza Strip may prepare it for additional “peacekeeping” mission around the city of Jerusalem. Bible prophecy reveals that Germany will become increasingly active in the region.
