U.S. to Lift Most Vaccine Mandates on May 11

The White House released a statement last night that the United States will lift most of its covid-19 vaccination mandates on May 11.

[T]he Administration will end the covid-19 vaccine requirements for federal employees, federal contractors and international air travelers at the end of the day on May 11.

At the same time, the Department of Homeland Security also announced it will lift the mandate for land borders.

This news comes a month after Joe Biden signed a bill to end the covid-19 national emergency, also to come into effect on May 11.

The varying mandates regarding the vaccine were mostly rolled out in 2021. On October 25 of that year, the Biden administration implemented the new international air travel policy. It required “foreign national travelers to the United States to be fully vaccinated” starting on Nov. 8, 2021.

On Sept. 9, 2021, Biden issued an executive order that required all federal employees to be vaccinated by Nov. 22, 2021. This decision faced backlash as many government workers were forced out of their jobs for refusing to get the jab.

A year and a half later, those bans are finally being lifted.
