Russian Submarines off U.S. Coasts Pose Nuclear Threat

Within the next two years, Russia could pose a powerful and near-perpetual nuclear threat to both United States coasts due to its increasing submarine presence, the head of U.S. Northern Command told the Senate Armed Services Committee on March 23.

Cmdr. Glen VanHerck said deployments of Russian Yasen-class nuclear missile attack submarines have been occurring more frequently. Since last year, Russia has also placed its subs in the Pacific, expanding the threat to the U.S. to both sides.

They just moved subs, their first [Yasen submarine] into the Pacific. Another one is out in the Mediterranean right now and another is out on its way into the Atlantic. That will be a persistent, proximate threat capable of carrying a significant number of land-attack cruise missiles that can threaten our homeland.

These 13,800-ton Yasen subs are among the most capable nuclear-powered submarines in the world. They are especially dangerous because of their quiet mode of operation that makes them difficult to detect in the open ocean. When the lead submarine in the class, Severodvsink, slipped into the Atlantic in 2018, it evaded detection for weeks.

The Russian Navy plans to build 10 more Yasen-class submarines. By the end of the year, two more will be deployed, according to head of United Shipbuilding Corp. in Saint Petersburg, Alexi Rakhmanov.

Experts say that Russia will use the threat from its nuclear-powered submarines to deter the U.S. and other Western adversaries in other areas, such as the Ukraine War. nato also increasingly fears that Russia will use its fleet to cut underwater cables, which would have enormous financial consequences and deeply restrict communications between the U.S. and Europe.

Nuclear war: Trends underway in Russia, the U.S. and other nuclear powers will soon lead to the most devastating war in the history of mankind. Jesus Christ warned of this coming suffering in Matthew 24. In his booklet Nuclear Armageddon Is ‘At the Door,’ Trumpet editor in chief Gerald Flurry wrote:

Many nations have weapons of mass destruction—including nuclear bombs. The Prophet Daniel called this ” the time of the end” …. How many Christian leaders do you hear even discuss Matthew 24? It is the most important prophetic message Christ gave when He was on this earth!

While nuclear war is terrifying, the Bible also makes clear that there is radiant hope connected to this prophecy. To learn more, order our free booklet Nuclear Armageddon Is ‘At the Door.’
