The Truth About the Millennium

Many Christians have strong beliefs about the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. However, they don’t talk as much about what will happen after He returns. But the Bible tells you what is in store during and after the greatest event in human history.

There are actually dozens of clear, detailed Bible prophecies showing that, after Christ returns, a 1,000-year period will occur, during which He will rule the Earth with the saints. Many Christians downplay this millennium or regard it as being “spiritual” but not literal.

What is the Millennium? Is there really a prophesied time of worldwide peace and prosperity just around the corner? Will Jesus Christ really return to Earth to set up a world-ruling government? The answers to these questions are plainly revealed in your Bible.

Read the writings of historians and theologians from the first few centuries after Christ’s death and resurrection, and you will see that they were generally aware of His future 1,000-year reign on Earth. Papias of Hierapolis taught in the second century a.d. that “there would be a certain millennium after the resurrection, and that there would be a corporeal reign of Christ on this very Earth,” according to the famous historian Eusebius’s Ecclesiastical Histories (emphasis added).

Irenaeus, the bishop of Lyons, wrote in the second century a.d.: “For in as many days as this world was made, in so many thousand years it reaches its consummation.” He identified several Old Testament passages that refer to the Millennium, then continued: “All such things refer not to heavenly matters but to the time of the kingdom, when the Earth has been restored by Jesus Christ.”

These men took the many biblical prophecies and statements about the Millennium literally. They did not think that this Kingdom of God was set up only “in your heart.” They understood it to be the literal reign of Jesus Christ on Earth, a government just as real as ancient Israel, the Roman Empire or the United States. Today, however, that general understanding of the Millennium has been lost.

What is the truth?

First, understand that this is not God’s world. The god of this world is actually Satan the devil (2 Corinthians 4:4). He has deceived the entire world through his powerful broadcast as the prince of the power of the air (Revelation 12:9; Ephesians 2:2).

Revelation 20:1-3 prophesy that after Jesus Christ’s return, Satan and his demons will be bound for a thousand years: “And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand. And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years, And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season.”

This shows that after Christ takes the throne of the Earth from Satan, he will be restrained, no longer able to deceive the nations, for a thousand years. That tells us that the Millennium is a future event, because the world right now is clearly still heavily influenced by Satan. When that evil spirit influence is removed, however, everyone will have the opportunity to receive the wonderful truth that God reveals in the Bible. Everyone will finally have the opportunity to learn the way to true happiness. “[T]he earth shall be full of the knowledge of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea” (Isaiah 11:9). This is the time of “refreshing” and the “restitution of all things” prophesied in Acts 3:19-21.

In the Millennium, the saints of God will rule with Jesus Christ (Revelation 20:6; Daniel 7:18, 27; Revelation 3:21; 5:10). These resurrected saints will rule beside Jesus Christ as His Bride (Revelation 19:7-8).

In the fourth century a.d., the Catholic Church removed the book of Revelation from its general reading list. Encyclopedia Britannica (11th edition) comments: “Thus the troublesome foundation on which [the teaching of the Millennium] might have continued to build was got rid of.”

Edward Gibbon wrote in The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire: “The doctrine of Christ’s reign upon Earth … was considered by degrees as a doubtful and useless opinion, and was at length rejected as the absurd invention of heresy and fanaticism.”

The Catholic Church began to look on the Roman Empire as the fulfillment of the Kingdom of God. It erased the teaching of a future kingdom to be established by Christ at His return. Today, the pope of the church in Rome is called the vicar of Christ—in place of Christ. Many in Catholicism and the churches that derived from Catholicism believe that Christ’s millennial reign has already begun in some way. However, Revelation 20 clearly shows that the Millennium cannot begin until after Satan has been removed and bound.

Today, we are so far removed from the truth about the Millennium that many Christians don’t believe this doctrine is even taught in the New Testament. But note this in John 7:8: Jesus Christ encouraged His disciples and His family to go and keep the Feast of Tabernacles. “But when his brethren were gone up, then went he also up unto the feast, not openly, but as it were in secret. Then the Jews sought him at the feast, and said, Where is he? … Now about the midst of the feast Jesus went up into the temple, and taught” (verses 10-11, 14).

Jesus Christ set this example for us: Even at the peril of His life, He kept the Feast of Tabernacles so that we might follow in His steps (1 Peter 2:21).

Why keep the Feast of Tabernacles? To understand the truth about the Millennium!

The Feast of Tabernacles is the sixth of seven annual festivals that God commands His people to observe every year. This weeklong fall festival occurs in September or October. Deuteronomy 16:14 shows that during the Feast of Tabernacles, God wanted the ancient Israelites to overflow with joyfulness, thanksgiving and rejoicing. God even commanded the Israelites to save a tenth of their income throughout the year for use at this festival to help them rejoice. Deuteronomy 14:23 gives the purpose of the Feast and its abundance: “[T]hat thou mayest learn to fear the Lord thy God always.” This Feast pictures a time of physical abundance, when the whole world will enjoy the fruits of obeying God’s law.

Exodus 23:16 calls the Feast of Tabernacles a “feast of ingathering.” God’s plan of salvation is typed by the two annual harvests in ancient Israel: the small spring harvest of the firstfruits of the crops, and the much larger fall harvest. These harvests type God’s time order for harvesting human beings into His Family: First, He is gathering in a small harvest of firstfruits—the Church, which is being prepared and trained so they might rule with Christ in the Millennium and beyond. Then, God will gather in the great fall harvest, when all who have ever lived will be given a chance to be part of God’s Family. The Feast of Tabernacles pictures that future ingathering of Spirit-begotten humans who will be brought into the Family of God during the 1,000-year reign of Christ.

The Feast of Tabernacles pictures a time when God’s Family will be enlarged. That is why Christ observed this festival when He was on Earth—because He understood what it pictured, even if the Jews did not.

Zechariah 14 shows that when Christ returns, mankind will try to fight Him, but He will forcefully put down all rebellion. Mankind will be forced to be happy—to live the way of God, which brings real happiness into our lives. At that time, “living waters shall go out from Jerusalem; half of them toward the former sea, and half of them toward the hinder sea: in summer and in winter shall it be. And the Lord shall be king over all the earth: in that day shall there be one Lord, and his name one” (verses 8-9). God’s law will flow out from Jerusalem (Isaiah 2:3), and this city will become the joy of the whole Earth (Psalm 48:2).

Zechariah 14:16 shows that in the Millennium, everyone will keep the Feast of Tabernacles: “And it shall come to pass, that every one that is left of all the nations which came against Jerusalem shall even go up from year to year to worship the King, the Lord of hosts, and to keep the feast of tabernacles.”

Talk about a feast of ingathering! This foretells a time when all mankind—Israelites and Gentiles alike—will be keeping the Feast of Tabernacles in Jerusalem. All mankind will be obeying God’s law and keeping His annual holy days!

After putting down the initial rebellion, Christ will begin a massive project of reeducation. Much of that reeducation will center around these seven annual festivals, which picture God’s master plan for mankind. God commanded for these festivals to be observed forever. That is why Christ risked His life to keep them when He was on Earth—because He knew that these holy days pictured a time when all mankind would be brought into the Family of God. In this soon-coming Kingdom of God, everyone will have access to God’s truth and will be able to learn the way to true happiness. The truth of God will cover the Earth like the waters cover the ocean beds! (see Isaiah 11).

Zechariah 14:17-19 show what will happen to those who refuse to keep the Feast of Tabernacles. They will experience curses from God such as drought until they change their attitudes. What more proof do we need that God always intends for us to keep these days?

Herbert W. Armstrong wrote in Mystery of the Ages:

Now 6,000 years of human experience have brought mankind to the very brink of world suicide.

So, in other words, the first 6,000 years of God’s 7,000-year plan were allotted to allow Satan to labor at his work of deceiving the world, followed by 1,000 years (one millennial day) when Satan shall not be allowed to do any of his “work” of deception. Put another way, God marked out six millennial days to allow man to indulge in the spiritual labor of sin, followed by a millennium of spiritual rest, under the enforced government of God.

What a beautiful vision! Once mankind submits to God’s law in the Millennium, all people living will be able to enjoy the truly happy way of life. What a wonderful time that will be!

Would an Impeachment of President Trump Spark Civil War?

Would an Impeachment of President Trump Spark Civil War?

Millions are angry over attempts to oust the president from office.

Attempts to remove United States President Donald Trump from office are tearing America apart. The president is closer than ever to being impeached, and prominent figures are openly discussing the possibility of “civil war.” On September 24, Speaker of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi announced that she was initiating a formal impeachment inquiry against President Trump. She accused the president of violating the Constitution, betraying his oath of office, and endangering national security by enlisting a foreign power to tarnish the reputation of a rival.

This impeachment inquiry is set to become contentious.

The impeachment call was prompted after a whistleblower accused President Trump of pressuring the president of Ukraine to investigate Hunter Biden’s past work for a Ukrainian energy company. Hunter Biden is the son of democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden. In 2018, Joe Biden bragged that when he was vice president he threatened to withhold $1 billion in U.S. loans from Ukraine if it did not agree to fire the prosecutor investigating his son’s business dealings.

The New York Times alleges that this whistleblower is a Central Intelligence Agency officer still working for the U.S. government.

In a bid to clear his name, President Trump released the official transcript of his July 25 phone call with the Ukrainian president. It showed that the whistleblower’s accusations were gross exaggerations.

The transcript reveals that Mr. Trump did not threaten the Ukrainian president. He asked him to investigate the people who were involved in the 2016 election meddling case. “I would like you to do us a favor though because our country has been through a lot and Ukraine knows a lot about it,” said Trump. “I would like you to find out what happened with this whole situation with Ukraine …. I would like to have the attorney general call you or your people, and I would like you to get to the bottom of it. As you said yesterday, that whole nonsense ended with a very poor performance by a man named Robert Mueller, an incompetent performance, but they say a lot of it started with Ukraine.”

Later, Mr. Trump stated, “There’s a lot of talk about Biden’s son, that [Joe] Biden stopped the prosecution, and a lot of people want to find out about that; so whatever you can do with the attorney general would be great. Biden went around bragging that he stopped the prosecution, so if you can look into it …. It sounds horrible to me.”

Attorney General William Barr has been traveling the world meeting with foreign intelligence officials about the Obama administration’s illegal surveillance of the Trump presidential campaign in 2016. It seems Democratic Party officials are desperate to avoid being exposed, and so are trying to prove that President Trump also illegally partnered with a foreign government to investigate an American citizen.

More information will undoubtedly come to light in the weeks ahead, but the political scene in America is deeply divided. Democrats will accuse Congressional Republicans of obstructing justice if President Trump is not impeached and Republicans will accuse Congressional Democrats of a coup d’état if he is removed from office.

Responding to a question about evangelical Christians’ response to impeachment moves, Robert Jeffress, pastor of the First Baptist Dallas, told Fox & Friends on September 29 that it could plunge the nation into civil war.

“Look, I don’t pretend to speak for all evangelicals, but this week, I have been traveling the country and I’ve literally spoken to thousands and thousands of evangelical Christians,” he said. “I have never seen them more angry over any issue than this attempt to illegitimately remove this president from office, overturn the 2016 election, and negate the votes of millions of evangelicals in the process. And they know that the only impeachable offense President Trump has committed was beating Hillary Clinton in 2016. That’s the unpardonable sin for which the Democrats will never forgive him. And I do want to make this prediction this morning: If the Democrats are successful in removing the president from office, I’m afraid it will cause a civil war-like fracture in this nation from which this country will never heal.”

President Trump tweeted Jeffress’s warning on September 29. Even before the current impeachment inquiry, a poll from Rasmussen Reports found that 31 percent of probable U.S. voters surveyed thought “it’s likely that the United States will experience a second civil war sometime in the next five years.”

Currently, 225 of the 435 members of the House of Representatives support the impeachment inquiry against President Trump. Since it only takes 218 members of the House of Representatives to impeach a president, Mr. Trump could realistically be impeached by the end of the year if Democrats stand united. He would not have to leave office, however, unless 67 Senators formally convict him of a crime (which is highly unlikely since Republican have 53 seats in the 100-seat Senate).

If Mr. Trump is impeached by the House and acquitted by the Senate, he may become the first impeached president in U.S. history to run for (and potentially win) reelection.

Whatever the case, the 2020 U.S. presidential election is set to be extremely divisive. Bible prophecy foretells that this division will soon escalate into unprecedented bloodshed unless the nation as a whole turns to God in repentance!

In The United States and Britain in Prophecy, the late Herbert W. Armstrong explained how modern Britain and America descended from ancient Israel. The Bible records that in the time just before Jesus Christ’s return, Israel’s sins will lead to government corruption and violent revolution.

“Ah sinful nation, a people laden with iniquity, a seed of evildoers, children that are corrupters: they have forsaken the Lord, they have provoked the Holy One of Israel unto anger, they are gone away backward. Why should ye be stricken any more? ye will revolt more and more: the whole head is sick, and the whole heart faint. From the sole of the foot even unto the head there is no soundness in it; but wounds, and bruises, and putrifying sores: they have not been closed, neither bound up, neither mollified with ointment. Your country is desolate, your cities are burned with fire: your land, strangers devour it in your presence, and it is desolate, as overthrown by strangers” (Isaiah 1:4-7).

This passage describes cause and effect. The government is sick. The nation is faint. But why? Because the people are “laden with iniquity.” Because the government is sick and faint, the people “revolt more and more.”

While millions of Americans may now be waking up to the threat this sprawling network of “deep state” departments presents to the nation, their populist revolution does not address the root causes behind the crisis.

If the Democrats are successful in removing the president from office, I’m afraid it will cause a civil war-like fracture in this nation from which this country will never heal.
Robert Jeffress, pastor of First Baptist Dallas

Corruption and bitter division in America today are leading to a conflict so devastating that the entire country will be laid desolate and its cities will burn with fire. These serious problems are not caused by one man or a group of government officials. Ultimately, they are caused by the sins of the American people as a whole. Only the repentance of the people can prevent the sickness in America’s government from escalating into full-scale revolution and war.

“Many Americans are troubled by the divisions and hatreds being expressed right now,” wrote Trumpet editor in chief Gerald Flurry in January 2017. “But they need to be a lot more concerned than they are! The problems are going to get worse and worse until people get the message, and they learn why these disasters are happening! Donald Trump’s win is a prophetic sign of impending civil war and anarchy, followed by America’s worst military defeat ever! But don’t blame the politicians or the race-baiters or the professional rioters. This situation exists in America only because of the sins of the nation—of all Americans! We can no longer ignore what we have reaped by giving ourselves over to sin. This is a reckoning!”

All Americans must come to realize that only Jesus Christ can solve the serious problems in the U.S. government. Only then will God establish His government and replace the government in the United States and the governments in all nations. God’s government will not be a democratic republic or an authoritarian technocracy. It will be a constitutional theocracy, with the law of God as the constitution and Christ the reigning King of kings.

Hong Kong Endures Worst Day of Violence

Hong Kong Endures Worst Day of Violence

And there is no let-up in sight to the multiplying hatred and anger.

As China celebrated the 70th anniversary of its Communist founding on October 1, Hong Kong experienced one of its most violent days of protests. And the anger threatens to increase.

That day, Chinese President Xi Jinping stood before thousands of military personnel and fearsome weaponry, boldly declaring that “no force … can shake the foundation” of his nation. Some 1,300 miles to the south, thousands of Hong Kongers took to the streets in defiance of such a claim.

The city went into lockdown as the streets filled with protesters fighting the police with poles, stones, corrosive liquids and petrol bombs. It was the largest day of simultaneous protests since the unrest began. At least 13 protests led to the shutdown of 47 public transport stations and more than 25 shopping centers.

The approximately 6,000 police deployed that day arrested almost 270 people, more than on any other day of protests. The police fired 900 rubber bullets and used more rounds of tear gas than in the first two months of protests combined.

An 18-year-old student was shot in the chest, becoming the first protester to be injured with a live round since the protests began. The full extent of this incident may not yet be fully realized, but many warn it could breathe new life into the angry protests.

The Civil Human Rights Front, which has organized several large protests, posted the following on Facebook: “We will be even more united, even more determined in our resistance. From now on, October 1st will be an anniversary for the suppression of Hong Kong people with live rounds.” Protests have ramped up in the days following the reported shooting, leading to police calls for citywide curfews and other laws to keep people off the streets.

The Spectator wrote:

There has been a tragic escalation of tensions, and Hong Kong has become a tinder box. The explosion of anger today should be condemned, but it is the result of the brutal actions of the authorities to what were initially peaceful protests. It is particularly worrying to see credible reports that China has doubled the number of troops in Hong Kong to 12,000 ….

It is important to understand how frightening it must be to live in Hong Kong today. If you were one of the 2 million people (in a region of 7 million) who have been on the streets over the last 100 days to demand basic human rights and universal suffrage, there is a good chance that you would have seen your friends and family beaten, sprayed with tear gas, and arbitrarily arrested.

Those taking part in legitimate protests have had to wear masks for fear of being kidnapped and taken to mainland China for a prearranged show trial.

Quillette detailed the example of one young man who traveled from mainland China to Hong Kong to take part in the protests. He held up a sign reading, “I come from the mainland. Thank you, Hong Kongers! Don’t give up, fight for freedom!” Once he returned to the mainland, the police arrested him. They threatened to beat him to death for betraying China. When he was released 10 days later, he fled to Thailand.

With reports that China is quietly boosting troop numbers in Hong Kong, many fear the Communists will succeed in getting control. But Hong Kong isn’t the only place they’re after. “If Xi manages to break the will of Hong Kong, there can be little doubt that he will cast his gaze across the Taiwan Strait for his next target,” wrote Quillette.

Pro-democracy lawmaker Ray Chan said, “Hong Kong and Taiwan are both at the front line of the global fight to stop Beijing’s creeping authoritarianism and control. Our cooperation and mutual support will be key to defending our freedom.”

China’s creeping authoritarianism was prophesied.

Trumpet editor in chief Gerald Flurry wrote in July 2016, “China is intimidating the nations of Southeast Asia into submission to its will. It is forcing these countries to do what it wants. Everything is headed in the direction of war.” We see China’s push for dominance on display in Hong Kong. But China won’t stop there. It will keep pushing outward. It will keep working to take over the South China Sea, a vital trade route through which $5.3 trillion in trade passes each year. That’s one third of international maritime commerce.

Deuteronomy 28:52 prophesies that America’s and Britain’s enemies will gain control of strategic sea gates, such as Sri Lanka, Cyprus, the Suez Canal, the Panama Canal and Hong Kong. It states: “And he shall besiege thee in all thy gates, until thy high and fenced walls come down, wherein thou trustedst, throughout all thy land: and he shall besiege thee in all thy gates throughout all thy land, which the Lord thy God hath given thee.”

It is prophecies such as this that reveal why the British handover of Hong Kong to China in 1997 was such a momentous day and why the Trumpet continues to prophesy the continued degradation of Hong Kong’s freedom until it falls under complete control of China. Their lax stance against China and their handover of such pivotal sea gates will ultimately lead to Britain’s and America’s demise.

To understand where the raging protests in Hong Kong are headed, please read Mr. Flurry’s article “China Is Steering the World Toward War.”

This Week: Five Events You Need to Know (October 5)

Trump-Ukraine ‘scandal,’ North Korea’s latest missile test, Austrian elections, and more

Here are five of the most important news stories this week, as well as relevant links to the full articles and videos here on theTrumpet.com.

The Manufactured Trump-Ukraine Scandal

On September 24, the White House released a transcript of United States President Donald Trump’s phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Democrats have claimed it contains evidence that President Trump coerced Ukraine to smear presidential candidate Joe Biden.

What it actually reveals is another baseless attack against the president.

The attacks continued this week, giving a glimpse into an unseen but dangerous force controlling America today.

North Korean Missile Launched Into Japan’s Waters ‘Pushes the Envelope’

North Korea test-fired a solid-fueled, submarine-launched ballistic missile into Japanese waters on October 2, just one day after announcing it would resume working-level talks with the United States about denuclearization.

Japanese officials said the nuclear-capable missile—the longest-range, solid-fuel missile ever tested by North Korea—has a potential range of up to 1,240 miles, which means that it can potentially hit a target anywhere in South Korea and Japan.

The missile marked North Korea’s first “strategic” launch since November 2017.

Pyongyang’s provocative test and Washington’s indulgent response could drive a broad wedge between the U.S. and its Asian allies.

This could be exactly what North Korea and its main allies—China and Russia—are working to accomplish.

Austrian Elections Show Germany’s Future

Former Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz won reelection this week by a landslide: 37 percent of the vote.

The elections hold great significance for Germany and all of Europe.

Kurz has stood up for Austria, dealing with the migrant crisis without looking and sounding like a Nazi. Many within Germany are now asking, Where is our Sebastian Kurz? Newspapers have published headlines like “Five Lessons That Germany Can Learn From Austria” and “Is Kurz an Example for the CDU?”, referring to Germany’s main conservative party.

Germany is crying out for someone like Kurz—someone charismatic and competent, someone who will be proud of Germany’s heritage and deal with the migrant crisis.

The Bible says this man is coming.

Iraq-Syria Border Crossing Reopens Under Iranian Control

After eight years of closure, Iraq reopened its Qa’im border crossing with Syria on Monday.

While the crossing is expected to revitalize Syrian-Iraqi trade, its reopening “may enable Iran to move militias and weapons across” much easier and quicker than before, according to the Jerusalem Post’s Middle East expert Seth Frantzman.

This is a critical benchmark in Iran’s ploy to bring the vast swath of land from Iran to the Mediterranean under its control.

Climate Activists Call for Eco-Socialism

A coalition of climate change activists including Extinction Rebellion and Black Lives Matter, recently took to the streets of Washington, D.C., to “shut down” the city. While they did not succeed in a total shutdown, the protesters did succeed in blocking traffic at major intersections, forcing cars to sit idle for hours. They also threw trash in the streets and lit dumpster fires.

The protests were timed to coincide with a speech by 16-year-old climate activist Greta Thunberg at the United Nations Secretariat Building in New York City.

Some climate alarmists may sincerely believe that America has to abandon free-market economics to save the world from an environmental catastrophe. But many of the environmental policies that these would-be central planners are proposing would be worse for the planet than the problems they purport to solve.

Austrian Elections Show Germany’s Future

Elections held in Austria this week hold great significance for Germany and all of Europe.

Former Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz won by a landslide. This is a big deal.

Over the last decade, mainstream parties have been struggling all across Europe. In some cases, parties that once dominated their country’s politics collapsed completely. This seemed to be happening to Kurz’s Austrian People’s Party.

Before Kurz led them to power in 2017, they were polling below 20 percent. Some polls showed them being overtaken in popularity by the far right.

Fast-forward to this weekend, and Kurz has turned that around: It won 37 percent of the vote and Kurz has a whole range of coalition partners to choose from.

How did he do it? That’s a question a lot of European leaders are asking.

Kurz is a strongman. He overturned his party’s organization structure to concentrate power with himself. Then he took personal responsibility for turning the country around. He took voters concerns seriously. He addressed problems of immigration. Until he came along, only the far right dealt with that taboo.

But while he dealt with migration strongly, and he went in coalition with a far-right party, he made sure he never looked like a Nazi himself.

Crucial to this effort was the Catholic Church. Kurz brought a religious-sounding message, promoting Europe’s Catholic heritage. He was close to senior Catholic figures such as Archbishop of Vienna Christoph Schönborn.

In doing this, Kurz became the type of politician Europeans having been crying out for—someone who will stand up for their country, make people proud of their country and deal with the migrant crisis without looking and sounding like a Nazi.

Such is the effect of Kurz’s approach that many within Germany are asking, Where is our Sebastian Kurz? Newspapers are publishing articles like “Five Lessons That Germany Can learn From Austria” and “Is Kurz an Example for the CDU?”, referring to Germany’s main conservative party.

Germany is crying out for someone like him—charismatic, competent, someone who will be proud of Germany’s heritage and deal with the migrant crisis.

The Bible says this man is coming. The Bible has numerous prophecies talking about a strongman who will arise in Germany. He will dominate all of Europe. He will lead the Continent to great power, but also into great atrocities and great danger.

Men like this strongman are already rising up in other European countries like Austria. How long before Germany gets its Kurz?

This is a crucial story to watch. The Bible says this strongman will play a vital role in end-time events. You can learn more about these prophecies, and prove what the Bible says on this subject, in our free booklet A Strong German Leader Is Imminent.

Anti-Government Protests Spark in Iraq

Anti-Government Protests Spark in Iraq

Is this President Trump’s Green Movement moment?

Iraq’s largest protests in more than a year erupted on Tuesday as thousands of anti-government demonstrators gathered in Baghdad to express anger about unemployment, economic poverty, government corruption and Iranian infiltration.

Late Tuesday evening, the protesters spilled onto the Jumuhurya Bridge to cross the Euphrates River into Baghdad’s Green Zone, where many consulates and government buildings are located. At least one explosion has occurred in the Green Zone since the protests began. Reuters reported that as the crowd crossed the bridge, the Iraqi police used tear gas, rubber bullets, stun grenades and water cannons to disperse the mob, occasionally using live ammunition as a final resort.

According to the National, by Thursday the death toll had risen to 19 and several hundred had been wounded.

Protests in Nasiriyah, about 200 miles southeast of Baghdad, also turned violent. The Baghdad Post reported that on Wednesday morning the Iraqi Army was deployed in Nasiriyah to help subdue the protests. Because the protesters are using social media to organize their riots, the Iraqi government has blocked Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp, Instagram and other social media platforms and messaging apps.

After the second day of rioting, the Iraqi government imposed an indefinite curfew. According to the bbc, Iraqi Prime Minister Adil Abdul Mahdi said “all vehicles and individuals are totally forbidden to move” in Baghdad beginning at 5 a.m. on Thursday. Ambulances, government employees in hospitals, electricity and water departments, religious pilgrims and travelers to and from the city’s airport were exempt from the curfew. Restrictions have already been imposed in the southern cities of Nasiriya, Amara and Hilla, where protests have been held.

One of the protesters, 21-year-old Fadhel Saber told the Associated Press, “We want this government to be changed. This is a government of political parties and militias.” The protesters want a change in leadership. They see what is happening in the Iraqi government and are attempting to stand against it.

According to Jerusalem Post Middle East expert Seth Frantzman, the protests are, in part, a response to the recent dismissal of a popular hero from the Iraqi Civil War, Lt. Gen. Abdul Wahab al-Saadi of Iraq’s elite Counter-Terrorism Service, who was pushed aside by the prime minister under mysterious circumstances. In “Did Iraq’s Prime Minister Gamble on Sidelining War Hero?” on October 1, Frantzman wrote:

This has led to questions about the politics behind the removal. Some reports indicate that the Popular Mobilization Units [pmu], a group of mostly Shiite militias that also have a political party in parliament, might have lobbied for his dismissal. This leads to questions about Iran’s involvement and allegations that the pmu are seeking to become Iraq’s version of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, reducing the army’s power and creating a separate armed force. Removing a key cts [Counter-Terrorism Service] commander might help pave the way for increased pmu power.

Iran has conquered Iraq. The Popular Mobilization Units, an umbrella organization funded by the Iraqi government, is comprised of about 50 majority Shiite militias that were either created by, received training from, or were led by Iran during the Iraqi Civil War. In recompense of its support against the Islamic State, many of these militias still retain their loyalty to Iran. The militias’ political wing, the Fatah Coalition, won the second-greatest number of seats in the Iraqi parliament during the May 2018 elections. As a result, Iran, through the pmu, controls large portions of Iraq’s military, governing body and several government ministries.

Through the pmu, Iran has conquered Iraq—a trend the Trumpet has followed as far back as 1992. In the June 2003 issue, editor in chief Gerald Flurry asked, “Is Iraq About to Fall to Iran?

Trump’s Green Movement Moment

Similar protests occurred a decade ago. The Iranian Green Movement began in June 2009 and saw large-scale protests throughout Iran begin peacefully but then erupt into violence. The riots, which were also organized via social media, sought to oust Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad from office after he decisively won what has since been proved was a rigged election. Similar to Iraq’s protests today, Iranians living under poor economic conditions saw the corruption and wished for a change in government.

In response to the protests, however, Iran brought down its iron fist. The police and the paramilitary Basij Forces, which acts as the eyes and ears of the Iranian regime, were called upon to stamp out the protests. The governmental retaliation saw many heinous crimes, including the arrest, imprisonment, torture and rape of thousands of men, women and children by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

Wall Street Journal reporter Jay Solomon records in The Iran Wars how far then United States President Barack Obama went to avoid supporting the Green Revolution in Iran. “The agency has contingency plans for supporting democratic uprisings anywhere in the world. This includes providing dissidents with communications, money and, in extreme cases, even arms,” writes Solomon. “But in this case the White House ordered it to stand down.”

In doing so, Mr. Obama made it clear to the world that the U.S. was not seeking regime change in Iran. “So many wars have been fought over misunderstandings, misinterpretations, lack of effective diplomacy,” former Secretary of State John Kerry told Solomon in a 2016 interview. “War is the failure of diplomacy.”

This raises the question, are the Iraqi protests President Trump’s Green Movement moment? If so, how will he respond?

Bible prophecy seems to indicate that he, too, will miss his Green Movement moment.

In The King of the South, Mr. Flurry writes, “The more Iraq falls to this terrorist nation, the more Iran virtually controls this whole area—which contains most of the world’s oil!”

Control over Iraq’s oil and access to its economy will give Iran considerably more power. It has already conquered Iraq. How much longer before its control and influence spreads throughout the Middle East and North Africa?

Mr. Flurry continues: “The radical Islamic movement, led by Iran, is very strong in Egypt, Algeria, Libya and Ethiopia. This religion will probably take control of these countries very soon. Iran appears to be on the verge of becoming a world superpower.”

Daniel 11:40 prophesies of an end-time Middle Eastern power bloc called “the king of the south.” Mr. Flurry identifies radical Islamic extremism, led by Iran, as this prophesied king of the south. Verses 42-43 reveal that this conglomeration of Islamic nations will include Ethiopia, Egypt and Libya. This Islamic power will “push” at “the king of the north,” a German-led European Union, sparking World War iii.

Notice that the U.S. is missing from this prophecy. It will not be involved in this clash of civilizations.

“Arab-Iranian control over the Mediterranean Sea and the Red Sea could be the reason the U.S. is not involved in this Mideast war in Daniel 11,” Mr. Flurry writes. “Our economy is shaky, the dollar is extremely weak, and Iran could threaten or even cut all our oil and wreck the U.S. economy to keep America out of the war.”

Leviticus 26:19 says that God will “break the pride” of America’s power. The U.S. has the greatest military in the world, yet it lacks the will to use it. President Trump is more likely to work out a deal than send troops to a foreign country.

“[W]e can’t win this war unless we also remove Iran’s leadership. But American and British leaders lack the understanding and courage to win,” writes Mr. Flurry. “Our peoples lack the will to win this war against terrorism.”

Trump’s Green Movement moment has come. Whether or not he decides to intervene, Bible prophecy indicates that this movement will not succeed and that Iran will continue its methodical conquest of Iraq. If Iraq turns to the Popular Mobilization Units in response to the riots, Iran’s power will grow.
