Terror Attack in London

At roughly 2:45 p.m. on Wednesday, a terrorist attack occurred in the heart of London.

Reports say it began as a vehicular attack on Westminster Bridge. A driver, described as a middle-aged Asian man, plowed into pedestrians on the crowded bridge, killing one woman and possibly a second person, and injuring many more. He crashed into a fence at the base of Big Ben, and then broke into the Parliament grounds. With a knife he attacked police officers who were patrolling the entrance to Britain’s Parliament buildings. He fatally stabbed one officer before being shot dead by another officer. Four people, including the terrorist, are confirmed dead. Around 20 others are injured.

As tragic and shocking as it was to see Big Ben encircled by ambulances and broken bodies, this attack should not come as a surprise. Britain, like America and Europe, is home to thousands of individuals who have a deep hatred for their host country and seek to inflict terrible pain and suffering on its citizens and institutions.

This attack is another grim reminder that we live in dangerous times, and that, despite our best efforts, the world isn’t getting any safer.

It is a sobering subject, but one that when acted upon leads to much-needed enlightenment and hope.
