Is Kendrick Lamar Working to Build a Brighter Future?
“How can you turn a song about hope and turn it into hatred?” Kendrick Lamar asked during a recent tmz interview. “The overall message is: ‘We gonna be alright.’ It’s not the message of, ‘I want to kill people.’”
The 28-year-old Compton, California, rapper was responding to criticism that he received from Fox News’s Geraldo Rivera. While Lamar believes his song “Alright” is filled with hope, Rivera didn’t appreciate Lamar’s performance of the song at the most recent bet Awards atop a graffiti-laced police car. “Hip-hop has done more damage to young African-Americans than racism in recent years,” Rivera stated.
Ironically, Lamar’s song has the actual word “hate” in it. Check out this refrain from the song “Alright”:
And we hate Po Po, wanna kill us dead in the street for sure ….
“We hate Po Po”? When did “we” agree to this? The media certainly pushes for a hatred of the police, even under-reporting the killing of 12 police officers thus far in 2016. It’s only March, by the way.
One would hope that Americans would be overwhelmingly supportive of law enforcement officers, but America seems divided on this issue. Those of us who have never been racially profiled, intimidated or worse by the police cannot fully understand the emotions of those who have. Injustice certainly exists across all walks of life in America. But even if you have been wrongfully dealt with by the police, does that make it OK to hate the police? According to Lamar, even if you haven’t been, it is OK.
In the music video for “Alright,” an unprovoked police officer shoots Lamar. Is the message that he and others want you to receive that the police will just pull up and shoot you for no reason? Is it the message that the police should be hated for trying to enforce the law? It seems to be. And Americans are getting the message loud and clear.
That message of hate has support from the very top of the United States government. President Barack Obama sent a “shout out” to Lamar and others at the Grammy Awards via Twitter:
The chief law enforcer of the land went out of his way to express support for a man who encourages people to hate those who enforce the law. The president added that Lamar and other artists were working to build a brighter future. Included was a link to a promo video that Lamar appeared in, calling for mentors to be involved in children’s lives. That’s an honorable endeavor, but one has to wonder how Lamar would feel if an officer of the law wanted to be involved in his mentoring program.
The Trumpet has laid out some sobering truths about President Obama in the booklet America Under Attack. This powerful booklet shows that the ultimate one who undermines the law is playing a key role. Satan the devil is the “prince of the power of the air” (Ephesians 2:2), “the god of this world” (2 Corinthians 4:4) that “deceives the whole world” (Revelation 12:9).
Satan loves lawlessness. From the top down in America, from the president to Grammy-winning artists, from the left-leaning media to special-interest groups that demonstrate and riot against those who enforce the law, the message is clear: Don’t conform. Be a rebel. Hate the cops or anyone who would try to enforce any rule on you!
In the short term, a brighter future will not be built by those mentioned above. In fact, quite the opposite. Read Ezekiel: The End-Time Prophet to learn what is ahead for America in large part because of the lack of respect for the rule of law.
There was another tweet, sent out after the Ferguson riots, not as popular as the president’s, but filled with truth and wisdom:
Indeed in the short term, anarchy will reign.
While the issue of police brutality is a serious matter, the actions taken by some involved in the Black Lives Matter movement, who also champion Lamar, only add to the problems they seek to fix. Why? Because of the truth contained in Proverbs 14:12: “There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.”
Jeremiah 10:23 tells us that people can’t even direct their own steps without help from God.
A brighter future will be built. But not the way the president, Kendrick Lamar, Kanye West, Donald Trump, Bernie Sanders, Hillary Clinton or anyone else thinks.
