Jerusalem Violence on the Rise
Israel’s security service Shin Bet reported that violent Palestinian attacks against Israeli civilians and troops have increased. The number of attacks in July and August was seven times greater than the previous two months.
Jerusalem officials say Palestinians are firing bombs and bullets at Israeli homes, and throwing rocks at Jerusalem’s city tram.
Israel’s Public Security Minister Yitzhak Aharonovitch explains:
“In the past few months there have been thousands of incidents, nearly zero deaths, and for that Israeli security forces deserve thanks and appreciation. We need to continue dealing with the remaining incidents. There is plenty to do in Jerusalem.”
Jerusalem’s Jewish neighborhoods have remained mostly unscathed. Cafes and shopping centers remain busy as usual. However, in the eastern, mostly Arab part of the city, Israeli and Palestinian residents say they feel increasingly unsafe.
Violence continues to agitate this city, which is at the core of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Based on a prophecy in the biblical book of Zechariah, the Trumpet forecasts that this violence will worsen until the city is divided.
