Britain Turns Against Israel
The Guardian newspaper reported on a recent poll, which found that the majority of British voters believe Israel acted disproportionately against Palestinians in Gaza. The poll also found that more Britons oppose Israel than oppose the Palestinians.
Anti-Israel sentiment has always been apparent from certain British commentators and educators. What this poll indicates is that a majority of the general public now sides with Palestinians. That view is manifest in the tens of thousands of people who have taken to the streets in London to protest against Israel’s actions.
“Why do people feel strongly enough to take to the streets over Gaza but not over other issues?” That’s what one columnist asked at the Guardian on Monday. She wrote, “Partly because there is a deep and longstanding movement in solidarity with the Palestinians that encompasses trade unions, community groups, faith groups and activists.”
