War in Gaza Reveals Divide in Muslim World

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani denounced what he called “inaction” by international bodies on the war in Gaza. Rouhani was especially critical of the United Nations Security Council.

He made the criticism at an August 4 meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement’s Committee for Palestine. Representatives from Kuwait, Venezuela, Uganda, Qatar and other nations attended the meeting in the Iranian capital, Tehran. At the meeting, Rouhani falsely claimed that the Israel-Hamas conflict has escalated into what he termed “a genocidal massacre” of Palestinians by Israelis.

Gaza war divides Arab states

Rouhani’s remarks come after Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei called on Muslims around the world to help arm Palestinians in Gaza in their war against Israel. Khamenei refuses to recognize the nation of Israel.

Iran supports Hamas, but many Arab nations oppose the terrorist organization.

Sadegh Zibakalam is a political analyst and professor at Tehran University. He explained that many Muslim nations are glad to see Israel reduce the capabilities of Hamas militants.

“A number of Arab conservative and pro-Western regimes in the Middle East in fact, deep down, they are happy about the suppression of Hamas because Hamas is a threatening force for them, because Hamas is revolutionary, radical, Islamist, anti-Western. And of course they don’t like Hamas at all.”

Egypt, under its military government, is one of those nations hostile toward Hamas right now. An Agence France-Presse report in March stated that Egypt had destroyed 1,370 tunnels connecting Egypt with Gaza. The tunnels were built by Hamas.

Not only do many Arab nations oppose Hamas, they also oppose Iran. As the radical nation increases its influence in the Middle East, other nations such as Saudi Arabia are working to counter that.

With the foresight provided by Bible prophecy, the Trumpet predicts Iran’s failure to completely dominate the Muslim world. A prophecy in Psalm 83 reveals which nation moderate Arabs will align with to counter Iran.
