Zimmerman Case Stirs Racial Tensions
Protesters in Los Angeles blocked traffic and clashed with police on Sunday night, outraged over the acquittal of George Zimmerman. The Florida jury found Zimmerman not guilty in the shooting death of teenager Trayvon Martin.
Police arrested several protesters Sunday night while the crowd shouted its disapproval of the verdict.
Zimmerman was acquitted on Saturday night in a Florida courtroom for the February 2012 shooting. The trial provoked a national debate about racial profiling, equal justice and self-defense.
The U.S. Department of Justice is looking into Martin’s death to decide whether to bring federal civil rights charges against Zimmerman.
