Arafat, Still Terrorizing Israel

Yasser Arafat has been dead and buried for eight years. Why dig up his body now?

On November 27, Yasser Arafat’s body was exhumed from its burial place in Ramallah. The reason was so experts from France, Switzerland and Russia could collect samples in order to prove whether or not radiation poison was the cause of the former Palestine Liberation Organization leader’s death.

Why now—eight years after his death in a French hospital? Access was granted to Arafat’s body last week after tests in January on some of the clothes he wore the day of his death revealed high levels of polonium 210, a radioactive isotope. In July, following the tests showing high polonium levels, Al-Jazeera reported the findings in a documentary about the iconic Arab leader. This resulted in an outcry from Palestinians for an international inquiry. Arafat’s widow, Suha Arafat, lodged a formal legal complaint for murder. French authorities soon launched a formal inquiry.

The desire for answers may be understandable among Arafat’s family and supporters, but one has to question the timing and motivation of the investigation. Are authorities really trying to discover if he was assassinated, or is this just a stunt designed to stir up hatred toward Israel?

Speculation that Arafat was assassinated has swirled for years, even though conclusive evidence has never been discovered. (At the time of his death in 2004, his widow did not permit an autopsy to be done, so there were no definite answers as to the cause of Arafat’s sudden illness.) But a French website notes that a document confirms the military hospital in which Arafat died would have conducted a routine series of tests for radiation poisoning. While polonium 210 would not have been specifically tested for, the website states that “given the characteristics specific to polonium, it is very unlikely that the French specialists could have, in 2004, not identified its urinary presence if it was still present eight years later in his personal items.” The website goes on to cite reports issued a few days after Arafat’s death that suggested his symptoms more closely fit those of poisoning by toxic mushrooms, not polonium.

In short, there is much more evidence proving he was not poisoned than evidence proving he was poisoned. So, why go grave digging?

The motivation for this investigation is further called into question when you consider its timing. Polonium has an extremely short half-life—the time it takes for the radioactivity of an element to be reduced by half. Polonium has a half-life of just 138 days. Darcy Christen, spokesman for the Institute of Radiation Physics in Lausanne (the institute that discovered the polonium on Arafat’s belongings earlier this year), said, “Since President Arafat died, we’ve gone through 20 or 21 cycles, which is a lot. That means the polonium—if there was any originally—should be very low now.” Because of polonium’s quick decay, “Eight years is considered a limit to detect any traces of the deadly radioactive substance,” according to the Swiss Institute of Radiation Physics. Arafat died just over eight years ago. As Christen went on to say, “We have actually put a deadline to the end of November, saying that beyond that date, scientifically, [exhuming the body for samples] would not make much sense.” So they have exhumed the body at the very last moment that any evidence can be gained.

Why has no one decided to investigate this till now? Surely in the eight years since his death, these tests on his clothes could have been done.

The results of the tests will not be known for another three to four months, but already, the Palestinians have made up their minds on the issue. Gen. Tawfiq Tirawi, who heads the Palestinian investigation committee, said, “If the investigation yields negative results, that does not concern me. If I reach a deadlock, I will announce it. But for now, we will continue regardless of the results of the examinations.”

Tirawi’s admission reveals the real agenda behind this investigation. He also said, “We have evidence that President Arafat was assassinated. And we will continue with our investigation until we get all the relevant details.”

Many Palestinians believe Israel is responsible for killing Arafat. But if they already have evidence Arafat was assassinated, why do they need to exhume the body? Even if the tests do prove positive, it still would not prove who killed him—only how he was killed.

It’s not hard to see the true motive behind these tests. The Christian Science Monitor quoted Tirawi as saying, “We need proof in order to find those who are behind this assassination and take it to the icc,” the International Criminal Court.

Now, in order to take a case to the icc, an entity needs to be recognized as an “observer state” by the United Nations. Conveniently, the Palestinians obtained that status from the UN the same week that they exhumed Arafat’s body. Could it be that all the evidence pertaining to Arafat’s alleged assassination had been held back until a time in which it could be exploited? Is this investigation really about providing closure, or is it just a step in a larger plan to take Israel before the International Criminal Court for Arafat’s death?

The Palestinian Authority is following in the steps of its former leader and attacking Israel politically on the international scene. With this stunt, it is sullying Israel’s reputation by selling the narrative to the international community via the mainstream media that Israel—in this case, by supposedly assassinating Yasser Arafat, the Nobel-winning Palestinian leader—is actively and unfairly working to destroy the interests of the Palestinian people.

In the last half of Leviticus 26, God outlines the curses He would bring upon the nations of biblical Israel if they failed to obey Him. God specifically mentions that He would “appoint terror” over the people if they refused to obey. That is exactly what the State of Israel is facing today. The exhuming of Yasser Arafat is a stark reminder: Even from the grave, the former Palestinian leader is still bringing terror upon Israel.

God is looking for Israel to look to Him for deliverance. Sadly, Bible prophecy shows that Israel will not turn to God for help, but to Germany. Watch this investigation to see how it may help speed that along.

1976 Viking 1 Mars landing shown at Ambassador Auditorium

“Much of the government’s space project is being worked out at what is locally called the jpl, Caltech’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory,” Herbert W. Armstrong appraised co-workers in a letter dated Feb. 3, 1964.

“The president of Caltech lives only three doors from Mrs. Armstrong and me, but we don’t know one another. Our spheres of interest run in opposite directions. In fact, the present expansion program of Caltech is going to take our home away from us, and we expect to be paid only half of what its value should be.”

jpl was formed in 1936 and facilities constructed in Pasadena, where it is managed by the California Institute of Technology under the direction of nasa. Its Space Flight Operations Facility has been designated by the government as a National Historic Landmark.

Funded by billions of U.S. tax dollars, nasa’s exploration in the recent past has placed men on the moon, and satellites, probes, modules, landing craft, shuttles and spectacularly powerful telescopes like Hubble and Keplar throughout our solar system, providing knowledge over time, through picture and video, of an ever expanding universe of undiscovered galaxies, solar systems and planets.

“This morning at 5:12 a.m. (Pacific Daylight Time), I sat in our Ambassador Auditorium here in Pasadena, looking in on Mission Control headquarters, located only walking distance away, as scientists manipulated at jlp the safe landing of Viking 1 on Mars” (co-worker letter, July 20, 1976).

This particular mission to the red planet was undertaken by Viking 1 and, weeks later, Viking 2. Both were constructed with orbiter and lander connected throughout the almost year of travel time it took them to reach projected orbit.

These craft captured captivating images of the surface of the famed planet, then separated as planned, ensuring continued pictures from the orbiters and soft landing for the landers.

“The jlp scientists had cooperated with Ambassador College so that everything at Mission Control, as the scientists maneuvered the Mars landing, was shown on a large screen in our auditorium. We had opened the auditorium to the public. A thousand or more were there” (ibid).

“Enthusiastic applause, filling the auditorium, greeted the landing,” Mr. Armstrong continued. “Very soon, just before 6 a.m., the first strip of two spectacular pictures arrived. We at the Ambassador Auditorium were looking in, just as if we were in Mission Control ourselves. Dr. Thomas Mutch, geology professor and leader of the team of scientists in the Mission Control room, gave a cry of delight as the first strip of the first picture came through.”

The images were high resolution for the mid 1970s. The scientific community was captivated by the pictures taken from a vantage point just a few feet above the Martian surface.

As the second image was shown on the screen at the auditorium, the audience gazed at a red planet horizon which looked, to Mr. Armstrong’s recollection, “as a sandy desert littered with rocks—from very minute size up to perhaps a foot or more in diameter.”

The Viking Orbiter 1 captured 360-degree pictures including the 3,000-km-long, 8-km-deep Valles Marineris canyon expanse. Both orbiters thermally mapped Mars and measured its water vapor, obtained and verified soil samples, and checked wind and temperature, which ranged from 150 to 250 K.

Dust storms and changes in pressure, along with gases across Mars’s polar caps, added to nasa’s mission file verification that “The Viking missions revealed further details of volcanoes, lava plains, huge canyons, and the effects of wind and water. Analysis of the soils at the landing sites showed them to be rich in iron, but devoid of any signs of life.”

Mr. Armstrong wasn’t surprised at the images or findings of the Viking mission to Mars. In fact, he expected them! For he knew, as revealed from the pages of the Bible, that such planets as Mars are uninhabitable, crusty, barren tracts of land, decomposed and useless (Genesis 1:2). Too few today conceive of the God-revealed facts, rather blindly devoting their lives to futile speculation and baseless hypothesis of the origin, sustenance and future of the universe surrounding planet Earth.

However fascinating, noble and sincere the efforts before and after Viking’s mission to Mars, their spellbinding pictures continue to verify the universal wisdom and word of the Creator (Genesis 1:1).

Speaking of the world to come, the Apostle Paul wrote to the Hebrews, “For unto the angels hath he not put in subjection the world to come, whereof we speak” (Hebrews 2:5).

The world’s best-selling but least-read history records three worlds. First, a world that extended from the first man created, Adam, to builder of the great ark, Noah. Second, today’s lawless world, held captive. And finally, the prophesied Millennium, which Mr. Armstrong termed the wonderful World Tomorrow in his booklet. Request your free copy.

In addition, the Bible describes three heavens. Earth’s atmosphere, the outer space, and the heaven where God’s throne is.

Paul continues by referencing “the world to come,” then asks, “What is man, that thou [God] art mindful of him? … Thou madest him a little lower than the angels; thou crownedst him with glory and honour, and didst set him over the works of thy hands: Thou hast put all things in subjection under his feet. For in that he [God] put all in subjection under him [man], he left nothing that is not put under him. But now we see not yet all things put under him” (Hebrews 2:6-8).

The Moffatt Bible translates “all things” as “the universe,” which, so defined, encompasses all that God has created. This revealed truth outlines mankind’s incredible human potential. The resurrected Jesus, the “firstborn among many brethren” (Romans 8:29), is preparing our way. He sustains this entire creation of the universe via the power of His word (Hebrews 1:2-3).

Two years after the Viking mission, Mr. Armstrong completed his book The Incredible Human Potential, in which he recalled, “I personally, in communication with the jpl scientists, arrived at the auditorium about 4:50 a.m. The first pictures began coming in on the large motion picture screen at about 5:10 a.m. … It had been planned to try to land the unmanned spacecraft Viking on Mars on the 200th anniversary of the United States as a nation.”

“It’s positively astounding! It has remained undiscovered by science! No religion has revealed it! Higher education has never taught it! Is it possible the whole world has been deceived—regarding the awesome purpose of human life—about the way to world peace and how it will come?” asked the unofficial ambassador for world peace, friend of jpl-nasa’s space program. “And could it be true that the real gospel message Christ brought from heaven revealed this missing dimension—but was suppressed?”

Request this vital book for, as Mr. Armstrong wrote, “This is the eye-opening story of the real gospel message of Jesus Christ—of how this missing dimension was withheld, and the whole world deceived.”

UN Elevates Palestinians’ Status

UN Elevates Palestinians’ Status

John Moore/Getty Images

A historic resolution by an overwhelming majority of the United Nations General Assembly has upgraded the status of the Palestinian Authority from “non-member observer entity” to “non-member observer state.” The vote on Thursday was deliberately planned to be passed on the 65th anniversary of the founding of today’s State of Israel.

Since 1974, the Palestinians have held a “non-member observer entity” status. Over the years, they have been gaining recognition. In 1998, the Palestinians were granted special rights to participate in the work of the General Assembly. Last year, under Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, the Palestinians failed to receive full UN membership because such a move would be subject to a U.S. veto. But being recognized, like the Vatican, as a “non-member observer state” is not subject to a veto. It only requires majority approval of the UN’s 193 members. And that’s what they did on November 29.

A whopping 138 states, including France, Italy, Russia, China and New Zealand, voted in favor of the resolution. Forty-one, including the UK, Germany and Australia, abstained. Only nine countries were opposed to the resolution. The majority were small Pacific Island nations. The only major powers were the United States, Canada, the Czech Republic and Israel.

Israel condemned the resolution, saying it will “hurt peace.” U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton called the vote “unfortunate and counter-productive” to the peace process. A Palestinian state, opponents of the resolution have said, should only emerge out of bilateral negotiations, as set out in the 1993 Oslo peace accords. Palestinian leader Abbas, on the other hand, sees the international community as the “last chance to save the two-state solution.”

The Vatican too has welcomed this resolution, and has pushed for full recognition of Palestinian sovereignty. The Vatican also called for the recognition of “an internationally guaranteed special statute” for the city of Jerusalem, an agreement “safeguarding the freedom of religion and of conscience, the identity and sacred character of Jerusalem as a holy city, [and] respect for, and freedom of access to its holy places.”

While the recent UN resolution does not grant statehood or independence to the Palestinians, it is a significant diplomatic score for them. They can now take part in UN debates and even join the International Criminal Court and potentially prosecute Israel for war crimes. They may seek to resolve territorial disputes through the International Court of Justice.

The Palestinians’ new UN status will not lead to peace. Statehood or no, the Bible reveals that the Palestinians will soon take control of half of Jerusalem through violence. The recent elevation within the UN will only serve to embolden them.

Watch Jerusalem closely. As Trumpet editor in chief Gerald Flurry has written, “When half of Jerusalem goes into captivity, that crisis triggers a series of events that leads to the return of Jesus Christ! One half of Jerusalem being taken captive is like the first domino to fall leading to Christ’s return.” For more on these climactic events, read Jerusalem in Prophecy.

The Seven Seals of Revelation Have Been Opened!

The Seven Seals of Revelation Have Been Opened!

God meant for this mysterious book to be understood! Here is how.
From the January 2013 Trumpet Print Edition

The Book of Revelation was given as a mysterious, closed and sealed book. It was sealed with seven seals. It is similar to the book of Daniel, which God told Daniel was sealed until the time of the end.

But if God wanted to hide this knowledge completely, He never would have revealed it in the first place. He meant for those seals to be opened. In fact, God intended this important prophetic book to be understoodin our time today!

The question is, when would those seals be opened, and what would the book reveal?

Revelation tells us that Jesus Christ would be able to open those seals. “And I wept much, because no man was found worthy to open and to read the book, neither to look thereon. And one of the elders saith unto me, Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, hath prevailedto open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof” (Revelation 5:4-5).

Christ is the one who can show us all this revelation that has been sealed. He alone can do so. But what does it mean that He “prevailed to open the book”? It shows that loosing these mighty seals was not a simple matter. In order to reveal this prophecy, Christ had a titanic battle with Satan the devil, and He won. He qualified to replace Satan on his throne, and now He—and only He—is qualified to open those seals.

Christ has loosed those seals—but He didn’t do so in the book of Revelation itself.

I want to show you something Christ said that most people do not understand. We will look at one chapter of the Bible to see how that chapter aloneunseals those seven seals.

Jesus delivered a pivotal prophecy—one of the longest single prophecies in the Bible and the most important prophecy Christ revealed when He was on this Earth. He spoke this prophecy after He had prevailed in that battle with Satan and qualified to reveal it. It is called the Olivet prophecy. It is recorded in the Gospels of Matthew, Mark and Luke. I will just focus on the account in Matthew 24, and show how it looses the seals on the prophecies of Revelation. All prophecy, in a sense, revolves around Matthew 24.

In this chapter, Christ prophesied about a volcanic eruption of crises on Earth that has never been experienced—and about the birth of a new age that will come from it. Jesus Christ has prevailed and has revealed this, and we are now seeing these prophecies being fulfilled.

The seven seals form the story flow of the book of Revelation. Here is the overview: The first seal reveals false prophets; the second, war; the third, famine; the fourth, pestilence; the fifth, tribulation; the sixth, heavenly signs; and the seventh, seven trumpets.

If you understand those seals, they lead you step by step to the return of Jesus Christ: He returns at the last of those seven final trumpet blasts. So the Second Coming concludes those seven seals.

That makes this prophecy—even though it has a lot of bad news—the most exciting, wonderful news imaginable!

The First Seal

The first seal Christ opens reveals the first horseman of the apocalypse. The first four seals reveal a total of four horsemen.

“And I saw when the Lamb opened one of the seals, and I heard, as it were the noise of thunder, one of the four beasts saying, Come and see. And I saw, and behold a white horse: and he that sat on him had a bow; and a crown was given unto him: and he went forth conquering, and to conquer” (Revelation 6:1-2).

Christians usually assume this horseman is Jesus Christ because Christ also comes on a white horse. But Christ comes with a sword, not with a bow (Revelation 19:11-15). And when you see what this white horseman actually does, you realize that even though he looks like Christ, it isn’t Christ at all! This is a false Christ who has deceived the world—the Christian world and the non-religious—about the prophecies of Revelation!

Christ unseals and explains this to us in Matthew 24. “And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world [or age]?” (verse 3). If you read through the chapter, you see that the main sign is the gospel being preached around the world (verse 14). Christ was saying that His true gospel message would not be preached—but then, right before the end, it would be. That commission being completed would mark the world’s entering into the very last end.

That was the main sign Christ gave, but there are others here. The very first thing Christ said was this: “Take heed that no man deceive you. For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many” (verses 4-5).

Here, then, is the meaning of the first seal in Revelation, the first horseman of the apocalypse. This is what Christ revealed: It is the white horseman of religious deception. This horseman proclaims a lying message about Christ. This false religion proclaims that Christ was the Messiah, but it is deceiving people about what He said!

This horseman comes first because he causes the most suffering by far. He is a false teacher of Christ’s message, one who “went forth conquering, and to conquer.” This deceitful ministry conquers by deceiving, and it has deceived the whole world (Revelation 12:9). This is the deadliest of all the horsemen.

Second, Third and Fourth Seals

Here is what Revelation says about the second seal: “And there went out another horse that was red: and power was given to him that sat thereon to take peace from the earth, and that they should kill one another: and there was given unto him a great sword” (Revelation 6:4). The second seal reveals the horseman of war.

What did Christ say about this in the Olivet prophecy? “And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet” (Matthew 24:6). There will be all kinds of wars from the first coming of Christ to the Second Coming—but those right at the very end before His Second Coming will be about 100 times worse than any ever on this planet! That is what Christ is telling us.

This is the same period that the Prophet Daniel called “the time of the end”—or as the Moffatt Bible translates it, “the crisis at the close.” It is the worst crisis ever on this Earth! We ought to take note because it is already beginning to unfold before our eyes. Look at all the countries that have nuclear bombs and are ready to detonate them. Once you start a nuclear war, you can’t really stop it.

The third seal is described in verses 5-6: “And when he had opened the third seal, I heard the third beast say, Come and see. And I beheld, and lo a black horse; and he that sat on him had a pair of balances in his hand. And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts say, A measure of wheat for a penny, and three measures of barley for a penny; and see thou hurt not the oil and the wine.” Seal number three reveals the horseman of famine.

“And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell,” or the grave, “followed with him. And power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword, and with hunger, and with death, and with the beasts of the earth” (verse 7). The fourth of these seven seals is the horseman of death.

Christ’s prophecy in Matthew 24 goes on to explain these next two seals. “For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places” (Matthew 24:7). There are the third and fourth seals: famine and pestilence, and all the death that will result worldwide.

“All these are the beginning of sorrows,” Christ warned (verse 8).

These are the conditions and events Jesus Christ said to look for right before His return!

The Fifth Seal

Verses 9-11 of Revelation 6 describe the next of these seven seals. This passage begins, “And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of them, that were slain for the word of God …” (Revelation 6:9). This is discussing God’s own people—people who knew God and the true gospel—being killed.

Notice how Christ describes this same prophetic event in Matthew 24:9: “Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name’s sake.” Christ aimed this directly at “you”—His own disciples. This is a world-shaking event!

This seal is describing the Great Tribulation, a 2½-year period of Satan’s great wrath (Revelation 12:12). This isn’t the time of the wrath of God—that one-year “Day of the Lord” comes right after the Tribulation, making a total of 3½ years of unprecedented suffering before Jesus Christ returns (Revelation 11:2-3; 13:5; Daniel 12:7).

Why were these saints killed during the Tribulation? Several times in Scripture God promises to protect His people during that period (e.g. Revelation 12:6). Why didn’t these saints receive God’s protection?

Other scriptures reveal the answer. The last era of God’s Church before Christ returns is described in Revelation 3:14-22. Christ chastens it for being lukewarm and spiritually wretched. The large majority of God’s people today have fallen into that condition. That is a shameful truth. These people who have known God but turned away are not going to be protected by Him! God will allow them to experience the nightmares of the Tribulation because they were lukewarm and not excited about the Second Coming of Jesus Christ to stop all these crises forever! God says that this is what it will take for them to turn back to Him so that He can get them into the Kingdom of God, into His Family. You can read more about this in our free book Malachi’s Message.

Those lukewarm saints are going to be killed during the Great Tribulation. But those who have known God and clung to Him—the very elect—will be protected.

“And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another. And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many” (verses 10-11). The Greek word translated many means that most of God’s own people will be deceived! That is what Christ prophesied—and that is exactly what has happened in this end time. Ninety-five percent of God’s Church has been deceived. That proves we have to work very hard not to be deceived. We can be deceived so easily.

“And because iniquity [lawlessness] shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold” (verse 12). This “love” is the agape love of God, which comes from His Holy Spirit (e.g. Romans 5:5; Galatians 5:22). Only the people of God, who possess the Holy Spirit, have that love, and here Christ prophesied that this love would “wax cold” in many of these people! They had it but they are losing it. Why? Because of lawlessness. This is still in that fifth seal, the Great Tribulation.

The Main Sign

Now we come to the main sign Christ gave of His Second Coming. “And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come” (verse 14). The true gospel, which has not been preached, will finally be preached, Christ said; then comes “the end.”

This prophecy has been fulfilled! Do you know that the true gospel of God, after being suppressed for centuries, was in fact preached around the world for a witness to all nations? Do you know who did that job? These questions are also answered in Malachi’s Message.

But which “end” comes after that commission is finished? It is different from the “end of the world” in verse 3, from the Greek synteleia. This is the Greek word telos. Thayer’s Lexicon explains that the context has to tell you what “end” it is. This is speaking of the endof the gospel being preached around the worldafter which we will enter into the time when all of these terrible events of Matthew 24 will unfold. This is the “last end” spoken of in Daniel 8:19.

Christ has unsealed this for us. We should understand it!

What did He say would happen next? “When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:)” (Matthew 24:15). What is this? Luke 21:20 describes this “abomination” as “Jerusalem compassed with armies.” Other prophecies show that these armies belong to a reconstituted Holy Roman Empire in Europe! They also reveal that this “abomination that maketh desolate” (Daniel 12:11) will rise up just before the modern-day nations of Israel—which include the United States and Britain—collapse!

That might have seemed far off when Herbert W. Armstrong first prophesied about Matthew 24, but now we can see it happening!

The verses that follow are about the faithful people of God fleeing destruction—fleeing to a place of protection that God will provide. This is more proof that God will in fact protect some.

And here is what He will protect them from: “For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be. And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect’s sake those days shall be shortened” (Matthew 24:21-22).

This is Christ’s prophecy of horrors unprecedented in human history—besieging the world right at the end. He said that unless He intervened, mankind would wipe itself completely off the face of the Earth!

After World War i, Winston Churchill said, “Mankind has never been in this position before. … Without having improved appreciably in virtue or enjoying wiser guidance, it has got into its hands for the first time the tools by which it can unfailingly accomplish its own extermination.”

Since that time, we have developed chemical and biological weapons. We can exterminate ourselves many times over! The number one problem we face is human extermination! That has never been possible in history until very recent times.

We are now in exactly the position Jesus Christ prophesied about in Revelation and Matthew 24! This is the crisis at the close! More people should see that. More ministers should be talking about that. There is no excuse: There are prophecies throughout the Bible that tell us that—over a hundred of them!

The end of all things is “at the doors” (verses 32-33).

In verse 41 we again see God’s Church divided between those who cling to Him and do His work, and those who are lukewarm. Both churches are in the field, working away, but only one of them is going to be taken and protected—and the other is going to be left. Ninety-five percent of God’s people are not going to be protected. But because they don’t look to Christ’s prophecies, they won’t realize it. All these horrors are going to spring on them like a steel trap!

In Luke 21:34-36, Jesus warned that you had better watch for these prophecies. Watch world news, but also watch your own spiritual life so you don’t fail to see what is happening.

The Sixth and Seventh Seals

The sixth seal reveals mighty heavenly signs: “And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood; And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind” (Revelation 6:12-13). These signs are an indication of the fearsome things about to come next.

Christ explains this sixth seal in Matthew 24:29: “Immediately after the tribulation of those days [which was the fifth seal] shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken.” Those are the same heavenly signs. You can also read them prophesied in Joel 2:31: “The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and the terrible day of the Lord come.” This confirms that these signs mark the end of the Tribulation—the 2½ years of Satan’s wrath—and signal the beginning of the Day of the Lord—the year of God’s wrath.

These are world-shaking events. And just as Jesus’s other prophecies have come to pass, so too will these!

Revelation 6:17 introduces the seventh seal: “For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?” That seventh seal is spoken of in Revelation 8 and 9. It consists of those seven trumpets.

Here is where Christ explained the seventh seal: “And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other” (Matthew 24:31). That seventh seal includes seven trumpet plagues that God pours out on mankind.

There are only a handful of scriptures about the Great Tribulation in Matthew 24 and Revelation, but there are over 30 about the Day of the Lord, which is the day of God’s wrath on this Earth. Joel says the Day of the Lord is at hand, as destruction from the Almighty. God is sick of mankind’s sin and lawlessness, which plunges us into the greatest crisis ever. The world has never seen anything like the wrath of God that it is about to see!

Yet sadly, throughout these plagues, mankind will refuse to repent.

How does all this end? At the last trumpet, Jesus Christ Himself is going to return to this Earth! “The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord …” (Revelation 11:15). Jesus Christ is about to take over this world in crisis, rule it with a rod of iron and bring peace, joy, happiness and success to everybody on Earth. That is the kind of prosperity mankind really wants, but has never been able to achieve.

If you are willing to look into God’s Word with an open mind, you will see that all Christ talked about 2,000 years ago is coming to pass—the bad news and the good!

“A messianic rabbi from New Jersey is stunning audiences nationwide by revealing the striking parallels between the fall of ancient Israel and what he suggests are God’s early judgments of America.

“Jonathan Cahn of the Jerusalem Center-Beth Israel Congregation in Wayne, N.J., says an otherwise obscure passage in the book of Isaiah [Isaiah 9:10] is since Sept. 11, 2001, being uncannily reenacted in the U.S. just the way it originally played out in the time of the great prophet of Israel leading to the nation’s captivity and dispersions” (advertisement, Washington Times, November 29).

Yet, despite the current rush of interest in Cahn’s book, for 70 long years the remnant of the Church actually established by Jesus Christ—the Church that truly strives to adhere to all His original instructions as given to it during His earthly ministry—has cried aloud warning the Anglo-Saxon nations in particular that they are reaping the results of their rebellion against the Most High God, and few, it seems, have truly listened.

In his booklet Isaiah’s End Time Vision, last published in 2011, Gerald Flurry observes of Isaiah 9:8:

God will correct the people of Israel very harshly. For over 70 years God has warned them, first through Mr. Armstrong and now through the pcg [Philadelphia Church of God]. Remember, this book was written for the end time. “The Lord sent a word into Jacob, and it hath lighted upon Israel” (Isaiah 9:8). God sent His “word” (or “message”; see the American Standard translation) into Jacob, which is the patriarch Israel’s name before he became converted. God’s message also “lighted upon Israel.” The Jamieson, Fausset and Brown Commentary explains the expression “lighted upon Israel” this way: “fallen from heaven by divine revelation (Daniel 4:31).” This is a coded message to the nations of Jacob (which are unconverted, as Jacob was) and to spiritual Israel (God’s Church) in this end time.

Then the author asks the question:

Who is delivering this message? That is a question you and I must answer from our Bibles. If we can’t, God says we are “blind.” God will send the Germans (descendants of ancient Assyria) to correct the unconverted nations of Israel. But He always sends a warning message to Israel before its captivity. We can’t afford to be casual about such a thunderous warning. It is interesting that God precedes the warning message with glorious news about His government, which Israel and God’s lukewarm Church reject.

Then, specifically quoting Isaiah 9:10, Gerald Flurry declares (emphasis added):

“The bricks are fallen down, but we will build with hewn stones: the sycamores are cut down, but we will change them into cedars” (Isaiah 9:10). Israel is collapsing, but people still try to solve their problems themselves instead of turning to God.”For the people turneth not unto him that smiteth them, neither do they seek the Lord of hosts” (verse 13). God is smiting the people of Israel. But they still won’t repent, so the smiting must continue. Ancient Israel experienced this collapse, but this was only a type of what is to happen in this end time.”For wickedness burneth as the fire: it shall devour the briers and thorns, and shall kindle in the thickets of the forest, and they shall mount up like the lifting up of smoke. Through the wrath of the Lord of hosts is the land darkened, and the people shall be as the fuel of the fire: no man shall spare his brother. …” (verses 18-20).

What few understand is that the Anglo-Saxon and Judaic nations of today are actually the modern counterparts of the ancient Israel and Judah of yesteryear! (Read our book The United States and Britain in Prophecy for proof of this great reality.)

Fewer still understand the great hope that is bound up in God’s current-day curses upon the Anglo-Saxons.

The Times advertisement goes on to ask:

Does a relatively obscure verse of Scripture hold the secret to the pain and suffering America has been experiencing in increasing doses since 9/11? Are America’s key leaders unknowingly fulfilling a prophetic destiny of national judgment by uttering words from the Bible they don’t comprehend? Is the United States following in the footsteps of ancient Israel with a spirit of defiance against God, leading to increasingly severe judgments? Is America in danger of impending judgment? And is this judgment revealed in an ancient mystery that foretells current events down to the exact dates?

For decades two voices have cried out declaring the answers to those questions direct from your Bible—the late Herbert Armstrong over the course of his long ministry last century, and latterly over the past 22 years, our own editor in chief, Gerald Flurry.

A check of the Trumpet archives will reveal literally hundreds of inspired articles connecting current world events with the fulfillment of Bible prophecy for our time.

But those articles don’t just concentrate on the curses prophesied to befall our nations. They portray a vivid vision of the great hope that lies beyond them. It’s a vision that is literally out of this world, for it is one that will be imposed on humankind by their Maker Himself, once humankind have paid just retribution for their sins, and are ripe for repentance from their innate rebellion against God!

Best sellers are here today and gone tomorrow, to be then replaced by the latest literary flavor of the month. But the Word of God lives forever! The prophecies of God cannot be broken! They will be fulfilled in every finite detail! (2 Peter 1:19; John 10:35).

Get your own copy of Isaiah’s End-Time Vision and study every word, then follow the daily fulfillment of Isaiah’s prophecies through the current events of the day. That’s the sure way to be prepared for the inevitable repetition of the outcome of the curses once perpetrated on ancient Israel, which are in process of being repeated in modern Israel today—only with greater intensity!

Yet, more than that, Isaiah’s prophetic vision for our time will give you tremendous hope for the future—more, far more, than any best seller can do for its own brief and fashionable moment in time.

The Heart to Obey

Had Saul obeyed, what a difference it would have made.
From the January 2013 Trumpet Print Edition

When the people of ancient Israel demanded a human king to rule over them like other nations, God gave them Saul—a man the people desired. He was a wealthy, good-looking, powerful man from the tribe of Benjamin. When he began his reign, he was actually a humble servant who was deeply submissive to God’s authority.

By God’s power, Saul became a different man—he became a man of God! After his anointing, God gave him “another heart” (1 Samuel 10:9)—His heart! God gave Saul His Holy Spirit so that the new king could develop a heart after His own heart. King Saul, in other words, became converted to God’s way of life.

Israel was fragmented, weak and oppressed, and had been for about four centuries. Early in Saul’s kingship, the nation faced an imminent attack from Nahash and the Ammonites. Saul courageously rallied the Israelites to fight for God (1 Samuel 11). He inspired the nation to look to him and the Prophet Samuel, and he credited God for the subsequent victory.

But Saul began to make a grave mistake. He didn’t remain humble and submissive before God. He began to rely more on his own army than on God (1 Samuel 13:1-2). His faith started to weaken; the other heart he had at the start of his conversion started to disappear.

Despite that initial awe-inspiring victory against the Ammonites, two years later, we find the Israelite soldiers scattering before the Philistines. The Philistines were a formidable foe. The Bible says they advanced against Israel with 30,000 chariots (verse 5). But that factor was nowhere near as important as the way King Saul confronted this threat compared to that of the Ammonites.

As the Philistines approached, Saul grew impatient. Samuel was supposed to arrive and officiate sacrifices to God on behalf of the nation. Samuel had told Saul he would arrive on the seventh day. Amazingly, the Philistine army, its soldiers and chariots arrayed for battle, remained still, encamped directly across from the Israelite soldiers. Neither army made the first move—for seven days. But as the seventh day wore on, Saul could wait no longer and decided to take matters into his own hands. He offered the sacrifices in place of the prophet.

Saul should have known he had no right to take charge of Samuel’s duties. He made a snap judgment. He saw it as an emergency. God, however, saw it as rank rebellion. In one hasty moment of panicked reasoning, Saul usurped the authority of God.

He should have waited. Sometimes the best decision we can make—the biggest step forward we can take—is to wait patiently on God and His government to solve the problem.

Just after Saul finished sacrificing, Samuel arrived. When Samuel confronted Saul about his grave mistake, the king justified his actions by blaming the people, the Philistines and even Samuel, rather than simply confessing his sin and repenting toward God (verses 11-12).

“And Samuel said to Saul, Thou hast done foolishly: thou hast not kept the commandment of the Lord thy God, which he commanded thee: for now would the Lord have established thy kingdom upon Israel for ever” (verse 13).

What an incredible verse. Had Saul obeyed, God would have established his kingdom—Saul’s kingdom—forever!

God had placed Saul at the top of His chosen nation and given him His Holy Spirit. He gave him a prophet to look to for spiritual guidance. He gave him everything he needed to go the right way. But when Saul refused to obey God’s commands and then tried to justify his rebellion, Samuel knew this would be the end of Saul.

What a sad and tragic demise.

Early on in his conversion, Saul showed signs of being totally committed to God’s way of life. But in just a couple years, he became a big man in his own eyes, vain and self-righteous. When his mistakes were pointed out, he tried to justify his actions by blaming others. But his actions showed he was unwilling to wait on God. He stopped going to God for wisdom and discernment and instead made hasty, snap judgments. He was still zealous. He even made sacrifices to God. But it was all Saul’s effort, with no submission to God’s will.

Notice what Samuel said to Saul: “Hath the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams” (1 Samuel 15:22). To obey God is better than sacrifice. What good is it if we sacrifice everything—but do it according to our own will and not God’s? First and foremost, God desires obedience from all of us.

When Saul heard that he had been rejected from being king, he seemed repentant at first (verses 24-25). But the rest of his story proves that he wasn’t willing to make the necessary changes that he needed to in order to develop that “other heart”—a heart like God’s. 1 Samuel 15 shows another stark example of Saul disobeying God, sounding contrite, but never actually repenting. Because Saul rebelled, God cut off his kingdom soon after he died.

God raised up another man who would develop a heart like His own (Acts 13:22)—one who would turn out to also make mistakes, but who would turn to Him in repentance and faith—one in whom God would establish an everlasting kingdom.
