Voters Rebuke Trump, Reward Hard Left

By Joel Hilliker • November 4, 2026

Two years ago, Donald Trump carried Texas in a landslide. Last night, Texas sent a seminary-trained Democrat who once declared “God is nonbinary” to the United States Senate.

  • Similar stories occurred all over the nation in yesterday’s midterm elections. Americans turned against the president and handed power to some of the most radical politicians in the nation’s history.

Democrats took ground Republicans have held for a generation.

  • They will control the Senate after flipping at least seven Republican seats: Texas, Ohio, Iowa, North Carolina, South Carolina, Maine and Kansas, which hadn’t elected a Democratic senator since 1932.
  • They are headed for a House majority of 250 seats or more, the largest since 2009.
  • Texas turned bright blue: Democrats swept the state’s governorship, lieutenant governorship and attorney general’s office.

Voters say they were voting against Trump. Exit surveys show anger over the economy and the Iran war. But look who those angry voters chose.

  • Abdul El-Sayed of Michigan will be America’s first Muslim senator. He campaigned on abolishing Immigration and Customs Enforcement and cutting off military aid to Israel, whose war in Gaza he calls genocide. He beat a mainstream Republican by about 7 points.
  • James Talarico of Texas has argued that Mary’s consent to bear Jesus Christ supports abortion rights. He has told the Texas House that God is “both masculine and feminine and everything in between.” He won by 12 points.
  • The Democrats’ socialist wing is gaining steam. Its House contingent will more than triple, and it got there by toppling establishment Democrats. These members want Medicare for All, a defunded ice and an end to military aid for Israel. None have committed to backing Hakeem Jeffries as speaker.
  • Washington, D.C., and Providence, Rhode Island, elected democratic socialist mayors.

It was also a historic night for women, and many of the winners come from the hard left. At least 17 women will serve as governors next year, breaking the record of 14.

  • Georgia elected the nation’s first black woman governor. New Mexico elected the first Native American woman governor of any state. Ohio, Minnesota and Tennessee elected their first women governors, and Texas elected its first Latina.
  • Minnesota’s Peggy Flanagan, the first Native American woman elected to the Senate, campaigned on Medicare for All, blocking weapons for Israel and a pledge to “rip ice apart.”
  • Denver’s Melat Kiros, a 29-year-old socialist, was fired from a law firm over an open letter questioning Israel’s legitimacy and later declined to call last year’s firebombing of Jews in Boulder, Colorado, anti-Semitic.
  • The capital itself will be run by Janeese Lewis George, a dsa member who once vowed to divest the city’s police.

Angry voters are reaching for the extremes. Our current Trumpet issue documents this pattern across the Western world: furious electorates punishing whoever holds power and lurching toward whoever promises the most dramatic change.

America has done it twice in two years, swinging from Trump’s populist right to the socialist left. Both poles are stronger, and the center is hollowing out, leaving the nation more divided than ever.

Change to what? As Gerald Flurry has said, the nation’s resurgence under President Trump was temporary, contingent on national repentance. That did not come. The president has proved himself a fallible man, like all other men—no place to invest your trust.

Unhappy voters demanded change, and they got it. But instead of turning to God, the nation is replacing one set of leaders with another, more radical set.

Expect two years of war in Washington—gridlock, subpoena fights and a president at war with Congress.

  • When the new Congress is sworn in on January 3, Democrats will chair every committee. They can block Trump’s bills and his nominees, including any Supreme Court pick. They plan to introduce bills that will end the Iran war and to fight the president’s tariffs.
  • They will investigate the Trump family’s business and cryptocurrency deals, immigration enforcement and the conduct of the war. The incoming House Oversight chairman’s election-night message to Republicans: “Lawyer up.”
  • Trump has suffered a sweeping rebuke, and his party knows it. Republicans are blaming his tariffs, his candidates and his war with Iran. He is blaming them back. How will a mercurial, wounded, cornered president respond to two years of Democratic investigations?

“… O my people, they which lead thee cause thee to err, and destroy the way of thy paths” (Isaiah 3:12). This nation has rejected God’s law, and it is reaping a whirlwind of leaders who cannot lead (Hosea 8:7). The curses are about to intensify.

America Has Waged Its Last War

Regarding foreign policy, voters in America sent a clear message: War loses you elections.

The Iran war, Iran blocking fuel supplies in the Strait of Hormuz, skyrocketing energy prices, and the effects on the global economy were major factors in the defeat of Republicans in yesterday’s midterm elections.

  • Donald Trump took on an evil and dangerous regime. He didn’t finish the job, but he did more to confront the problem than generations of American presidents. And he was punished at the ballot box.

Gerald Flurry, our editor in chief, writes in The King of the South: “[O]ur refusal to use our military might is often not because of righteousness, as we like to believe, but despicable weakness resulting from our sins. We simply lack the faith, character and courage to fight against Iran, the number one terrorist nation today.”

After Donald Trump attacked Iran, we wrote: “President Trump had enough courage to begin the confrontation—but the nation lacks the will to end it.”

We vividly witnessed that yesterday.

What happens when the next threat rises? Will even limited military options be on the table? Will the United States have the will even to launch limited air strikes or declare a no-fly zone? Or will the risk of a limited conflict dragging on for months (not even years) raise fears of an election rout and force any future president to reconsider?

  • Perhaps Donald Trump would be willing to make the unpopular but right call. Most others will not.

Leaders around the world are getting the message. The American people are reluctant to begin confrontations. You can expect them to take full advantage of this weakness.

“America has won its last war!” Herbert W. Armstrong wrote in 1961. Which political party did he say was at fault? In the same article, he blamed “you—all of you!”

  • He explained that the nation’s will had been sapped not just by poor leaders but by the sins of the people. Yesterday, American voters embraced perverts and heathen idolators, such was their opposition to this war against the world’s number one state sponsor of terror. A major reason for that opposition was higher prices at the gas pump.

This election has far-reaching foreign-policy consequences. And it’s the fault of the American people and each person’s lack of faith and obedience toward God. For more on this weakness, as well as whether the Bible corroborates the article we wrote at the start of the Iran campaign, read “Will America Win?”

Is Iran Readying Chemical Weapons?

Israel has briefed the United States that Iran is considering using chemical weapons, the New York Times reported yesterday. U.S. intelligence agencies are divided on the reliability of the claim, and Gulf Arab governments reportedly are skeptical of it.

  • The Islamic Republic has had a chemical weapons program in one form or another since the Iran-Iraq War of 1979–1989.
  • Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei published a statement on October 31 telling Iran’s military to meet Israel and U.S. strikes “with an immediate and effective response, without geographical limitations.”
  • The U.S. government assesses the threat to Americans in the Middle East to be at its greatest since the war began in February.

The U.S. announced on November 3 that it will end its approximately $4 billion in military aid to Israel at the end of this year, rather than the end of 2028 as originally planned.

  • U.S. President Donald Trump admitted this was to counter the Democrats’ argument that Israel controls U.S. foreign policy.

The U.S.-Israel alliance is in increasing political disarray while the Iranian regime doubles down in assertiveness and aggression.

  • Such a dangerous regime controlling weapons of mass destruction is an international crisis. Trumpet editor in chief Gerald Flurry has warned that Iran’s pursuit of nuclear weapons will trigger a cataclysmic world catastrophe.

Could Syria join ‘Arab NATO’? Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani said Saturday that his country may join the Mecca Pact, a mutual defense alliance between Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Pakistan. The three established the alliance in August as protection against Iran and activated it against the Houthis last month. The composition of the alliance, with the prospect of Syria joining it, matches a Middle Eastern alliance of the Saudis and Turks described in the prophecy of Psalm 83.

Russia and China vow to deepen military ties: Russia and China will strengthen mutual trust and strategic communication in the military realm, Zhang Shengmin, vice chair of China’s Central Military Commission, said yesterday during a meeting with Russian Defense ‌Minister Andrei Belousov in Beijing. The meeting marked Zhang’s first with any foreign official since he was promoted to the Chinese Communist Party’s Politburo last week. Russia and China have forged an extraordinary level of political cooperation in recent years that includes high-level military exchanges, joint war games and direct cooperation in support of Russia’s war on Ukraine. Zhang is seeking to take that partnership further, advancing the formation of the powerful Russia-China bloc described in biblical prophecy.

The King of the South
The Prophet Daniel wrote about a future confrontation between the king of the north and the king of the south. We are now in the time when these two major powers are quickly rising! The king of the south is stirring up trouble even today. It is critical that you know the identity of this prophesied power!
