Chinese Nationals Arrested in U.S. for Smuggling AI Chips Into China

Two Chinese nationals charged with smuggling tens of millions of dollars’ worth of microchips and other sensitive technology into China were arrested in California on August 2.

Among the smuggled items were American-produced Nvidia H100s, advanced chips that can train artificial intelligence, among other applications.

The export of advanced microchips and related technology from the United States was restricted in 2022 due to national security concerns.

  • Microchips optimized for AI-related tasks have significant military potential.
  • China’s illegal acquisition of them poses serious national security risks to the U.S.

Stolen technology: Chuan Geng and Shiwei Yang are alleged to have knowingly exported this technology to China through their company alx Solutions Inc., without the required license or authorization from the U.S. Department of Commerce.

Geng is a legal permanent resident of the U.S., but Yang has illegally overstayed her visa.

Prophetic perspective: The Bible prophesies that God would allow the fruit of America’s labors to be stolen by its enemies as long as the country refuses to turn to God.
