Trump Tells Japan the Deal Is Off
United States President Donald Trump signaled that he would send Japan a letter terminating ongoing trade negotiations in a social media post published Monday.
Dear Mr. Japan: The U.S. will send letters to foreign governments if they do not agree to a trade deal by the July 9 expiration date of good-faith negotiations, President Trump said in a Fox News interview on Sunday. He said the letters will essentially say, “Congratulations, we are allowing you to shop in the United States of America. You’re going to pay a 25 percent tariff, or a 35 percent, or a 50 percent or a 10 percent.”
President Trump expressed frustration that Japan would not agree to buy great quantities of American rice and automobiles, and suggested Japan could be one of the nations to receive such a letter. He said the U.S. would impose a 25 percent tariff on Japanese automobiles.
Your friend, America: For decades, Japan and the U.S. have maintained a strong trade relationship, and Japan has acted as a key U.S. military ally in the Pacific region.
Though President Trump indicated in his post that he wanted to continue the trade relationship “for many years to come,” the Bible prophesies that this productive economic and strategic relationship will soon end.
Japan will ultimately part ways with the U.S., aligning with fellow Asian nations against the U.S. The tension between Japan and its Asian brothers will soon be set aside in Japan’s quest for greater power and security.
