The Dominion of Canada is a resource-rich nation with a weak military. According to Statista, this vast country has an estimated $33.2 trillion worth of natural resource wealth (more than any other nation except Russia, the United States and Saudi Arabia). Despite having so much wealth to protect, Canada spends less than 1.5 percent of its gross domestic product on its military. The Global Firepower Index, which uses 60 indicators to construct an index of military strength, ranks Canada 28th out of 145 countries, just ahead of the micronation of Singapore.

This fact means Canada desperately needs allies to defend it.

Currently, the U.S. is Canada’s primary defense partner. According to Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, “Seventy-five cents of every (Canadian) dollar of capital spending for defense goes to the United States.” Many Americans, including President Donald Trump, think this amount is not enough to cover the amount of help and protection the U.S. provides. But Carney believes it is too much. Speaking to the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. on May 27, Carney said he hoped Canada would sign on to ReArm Europe in a bid to reduce reliance on the U.S. ReArm Europe is the European Commission’s plan to increase defense spending in the face of Russian aggression.

A day after Carney’s remarks, Canadian Defense Minister David McGuinty told a military trade show that he wants to boost defense capacity quickly, particularly in the Arctic. He also said that he hopes Canadian participation in ReArm Europe will diversify Canada’s defense partnerships away from overreliance on the U.S. before Prime Minister Carney told reporters that he wants a Canada-Europe defense contract signed by July 1 (Canada Day).

Such a pact would be a strategic threat to the United States.

President Trump has highlighted Greenland’s strategic significance several times. Since Greenland offers the shortest route from North America to Europe, the Pituffik Space Base offers the U.S. a strategic upper hand for its military and its ballistic missile early-warning systems. Trump has offered to buy Greenland several times. Since Greenlanders are not interested in this proposal, however, the Pentagon settled on shifting oversight of Greenland from U.S. European Command to U.S. Northern Command (increasing military oversight).

A Canadian-European defense pact, however, could jeopardize U.S. influence in Greenland. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said on May 29 that she dreamed of a united Europe from “the Western Balkans to Ukraine and Moldova. From Greenland to the United Kingdom and beyond.” The European Union has its sights set on Greenland, and Canada could end up helping it get it.

In The United States and Britain in Prophecy, Herbert W. Armstrong noted a soon-coming “United States of Europe” was prophesied to conquer the United States of America. The Bible contains over 100 prophecies warning about end-time Israel (the U.S. and Britain) being destroyed. One of these prophecies says, “The snorting of his horses was heard from Dan: the whole land trembled at the sound of the neighing of his strong ones; for they are come, and have devoured the land, and all that is in it; the city, and those that dwell therein. For, behold, I will send serpents, cockatrices, among you, which will not be charmed, and they shall bite you, saith the Lord” (Jeremiah 8:16-17).

Anciently, King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon invaded Judah from the north; therefore, the horses of his army were first heard from the city of Dan, the northernmost city in Israel. Yet Jeremiah 8 is not primarily about history. It is a prophetic account about a future time when the bones of the kings of Judah are spread on the hilltops (verses 1-3). At this time, the people of Dan hear the news that an army is coming to invade America, Britain and Israel, yet they do not stop the invasion.

The United States and Britain in Prophecy notes that both Ireland and Denmark are descended from the ancient tribe of Dan. The late Trumpet writer Ron Fraser pointed to this prophecy in Jeremiah 8 as evidence that Ireland might help an EU army conquer Britain. Yet we should not forget that Greenland is also a significant island controlled by the Danes.

There are many details we do not know, but President Trump is right that American “ownership and control” over Greenland is an “absolute necessity.” The EU recognizes the strategic significance of this island. Carney’s efforts to partner with Europe to secure the Arctic are really about securing Greenland for the Holy Roman Empire.

In “Is Canada Being Taken Over by Europe?”, Trumpet contributor Abraham Blondeau asked, “Are Cuba and Canada part of a pincer movement planned by the Holy Roman Empire to overthrow America? This would be a sickening, monstrous betrayal.”

It would indeed. Bible prophecy strongly indicates a betrayal of this magnitude involving the tribe of Dan. The Patriarch Jacob said, “Dan shall be a serpent by the way, an adder in the path, that biteth the horse heels, so that his rider shall fall backward” (Genesis 49:17). The May 1996 Trumpet explained that “this scriptural analogy … becomes clear as we study this ‘arrow snake’ which was once commonly sighted in the Middle East. This reptile was noted for its ability to hide in ruts and holes in the road or ‘by the way.’ It would remain concealed in such positions, then suddenly leap out and strike its prey. With horse-born wayfarers, the arrow-snake could strike with lightning swiftness at the horse’s hocks. The startled animal would often rear in fright, tossing its rider backward to the road. This character trait of Dan shows their adeptness at adopting cunning and deceit as their strengths in attack. Classic guerrilla tactics!”

The United States and Britain need to be on the lookout for treachery. The EU is prophesied to double-cross America, and certain of the lost tribes of Israel (i.e. Dan and Reuben) will likely help them. Canada has chosen a dangerous path.
