China Overtakes U.S. in Global Public Approval Rating
China has surpassed the United States in public approval around the world, Axios reported Tuesday, citing data published by the Morning Consult.
The data tracked public favorability toward China and the U.S. in 41 countries, excluding China and the U.S. themselves. Nations surveyed included Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Russia and the United Kingdom. Several of the countries polled are longtime allies of the U.S.
- At the beginning of 2025, the majority of nations surveyed held more favorable views of the U.S. than China.
- This began to shift shortly after U.S. President Donald Trump returned to power with many anti-partner statements and policies.
- By April 30, only 13 countries favored the U.S.
- Many pro-China nations have strengthened their support of China over the course of this year.
Taking sides: President Trump’s tariff policy is polarizing. He is pushing the rest of the world to choose a side, and many are siding with China against the U.S.
Though popularity may not be the most deciding factor in a nation’s projection of power, this data nonetheless paints a picture of rising anti-American sentiment across the world.
With the U.S. now perceived as an unreliable trade partner and an erratic global player, countries are turning away to seek partners elsewhere.
Anti-American alliance: The Bible prophesies of the development of an extensive anti-American trade alliance. Today, China is shoring up support around the world to counter U.S. tariffs.
