New Chinese Missiles Could Destroy U.S. Fleet in 20 Minutes
China’s new arsenal of guided hypersonic missiles could “take out 10 aircraft carriers in the first 20 minutes” during a conflict with the United States, said U.S. Secretary of Defense Peter Hegseth on May 3.
China has been developing an advanced ultra-long-range and ultra-fast missile arsenal over the past two decades.
- Its new hypersonic missiles are capable of bypassing all known defenses from the early 2000s and before.
- They can fly at speeds greater than five times the speed of sound and reach targets up to 620 miles away.
- The YJ-21 type is specifically designed to target aircraft carriers, the cornerstone of U.S. power.
“If we get into a war with China, we should expect to lose some carriers,” said former U.S. Navy Capt. Thomas Shugart.
The sinking of one carrier could kill about 5,500 U.S. sailors. A 2023 war game by the Center for Strategic and International Studies predicted that defending Taiwan from China would likely involve losing two carriers.
New weapons: The concern comes as Chinese media this month released footage of one of its H-6K bombers likely carrying hypersonic nuclear-powered missiles. Analysts believe they have the ability to “skip” along the boundary between Earth’s atmosphere and outer space, making them almost impossible to track and defend against.
- China also recently tested a new hydrogen bomb that mimics the intensity of a nuclear blast without using nuclear materials.
Asian powerhouse: Expect China and other Asian nations to continue to expand their arsenals with powerful new weapons. Bible prophecy foretells a massive and destructive Asian army will take part in the largest war mankind has ever seen.
