EU Picks China Over U.S.

European Union leaders have rejected United States President Donald Trump’s demands that Europe cut ties with China to maintain favor with the U.S., the Irish Times reported Wednesday, citing senior officials in Ireland and Brussels.

Why it matters: President Trump’s policies are turning allies against America and pushing them closer to U.S. adversary China. If this continues, it will cripple the U.S.

Trump is essentially asking European nations to choose between having raw materials needed to make things or having a market to sell things to. Do you even need the latter if you don’t have the former? The Trump administration seems intent on driving Europe into the arms of Asia.

Details: To avoid tariffs and strike a new trade deal with America, President Trump demanded that the EU decouple itself from China and lift trade restrictions on the U.S.

The Irish Times said the EU is largely refusing both demands.

  • Though the EU seeks to “de-risk” its relations with China in the long term, it has no interest in “decoupling” with China to appease the U.S.
  • A spokesman said its restrictions on certain U.S. imports—especially food and agriculture—are “not up for negotiation.”

Prophesied alliance: The Bible reveals that Europe and China will soon form a trade alliance against the U.S. and its allies. These two powers will work to take down the once mighty U.S. through a trade war of their own.
