Trump Derangement Syndrome Infects Canada Election Campaign

How Canada’s tyrannical leaders are escaping accountability

This was supposed to be an election of accountability. After nearly 10 years in office, and a trail of destruction left in his wake, Justin Trudeau’s Liberal Party faced oblivion. People were sick of inflation and a lousy economy. With Trudeau’s record-low approval numbers and the rival Conservatives’ double-digit lead in the polls, signaling an incoming super majority, the writing was on the wall.

But then Donald Trump won the United States’ presidential election. He began to talk about tariffs on Canada and suggested it become the 51st state. So Trudeau, the Liberal Party and the media went into overdrive crafting a new narrative. No longer was Canada under threat from the radical-left policies of Trudeau; it was under existential threat from “Orange Hitler.”

The Liberals had just elected Mark Carney as Trudeau’s replacement, and he wasted no time attacking President Trump. “We didn’t ask for this fight, but Canadians are always ready when someone else drops the gloves,” he said in his acceptance speech. “So the Americans, they should make no mistake: In trade, as in hockey, Canada will win.”

This has completely changed the upcoming election. Each candidate is casting himself as the defender of Canada, and the country has been overcome by Trump derangement syndrome (tds).

Democracy only works if the people have the character to hold their leaders accountable. Recent events reveal a problem at the heart of the Canadian people.

Canada’s Game

Conner McDavid is a national hero. In the tense rematch at the 4 Nations Cup between Canada and the United States, McDavid scored the overtime winner. There have been many great rivalry games between the two sides over the years, but this was different. Both sides booed each other’s anthems, and the air was supercharged with nationalist energy. It felt like national survival was at stake.

But it also shows that while America is emerging from eight years of tds, Canada is diving in even deeper.

Canadian icon Wayne Gretzky, considered by many to be the greatest hockey player ever, was made honorary captain for the Canadian team for the tournament. But because of Gretzky’s friendship and association with Trump, some began calling Gretzky a traitor.

“After months of taunts from U.S. President Donald Trump about making Canada the 51st state, the win became an immediate symbol of the country’s strength in the face of its larger, more aggressive neighbor to the south,” wrote CTV News. “To some fans on social media, Gretzky’s ceremonial position on Team Canada struck as out-of-touch, if not insulting. An online petition that started Tuesday is looking to rename Edmonton’s Wayne Gretzky Drive, citing his fame and admiration among young fans in the city as the reason ‘it stings even more to know that he supports Donald Trump despite knowing Trump’s intentions to annex his home country.’”

This is just a taste of the sentiment across the country. After months of the mainstream media warning of Trump’s aggression and putting out tds propaganda, appealing to deep-seated anti-Americanism, Canadian minds have been captured by the fable of Orange Hitler. Over one quarter of Canadians, 27 percent, view America as an enemy; only 30 percent view America as an ally.

Rebranding

The happiest person to see Canada win was promised-to-resign Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. After being trolled, humiliated and taunted for months by Trump, Trudeau used Canada’s hockey victory as an opportunity to rebrand himself. Draping himself in the maple leaf, Trudeau is attempting to hide his naked authoritarianism.

Trudeau’s post on X went viral, reposted by many Canadians.

Trudeau also made sure to post a video of himself cheering on Canada as the fearless defender of Canada’s sovereignty and freedom.

It is so easy to forget what this man is responsible for. Far from being a defender of freedom, he has systematically dismantled everything Canada stands for—from deleting our history to creating a censorship regime to instigating tyrannical crackdowns of dissent.

Trudeau is rebranding himself from a tyrant to a patriot. This is not a new strategy. His father, Pierre Trudeau, used the same cloak. Using the threat of Quebec separatism to show himself as a champion of Canadian federalism, he obscured the authoritarian nature of his agenda.

It appears this strategy has worked: The most recent Ipsos Poll shows that the Conservatives’ double-digit lead has evaporated. For the first time since 2021, support for the Liberal Party is equal to the Conservative Party. Polls suggest that Canadians believe Carney is more suited to deal with Trump than Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre.

But we shouldn’t allow Trump derangement syndrome to cause us to forget the past and what the tyrants brought about.

Trudeau is not the only one trying to rebrand himself. Ontario Premier Doug Ford was one of the worst tyrants of the covid era: shutting down businesses, passing draconian legislation to shut down any future protests, and mandating vaccines that ruined people’s livelihood. Ford called an early election so he could run on a tds platform.

The sinister rewriting of history in the campaign video below is possible because of tds:

And tds has spread to nearly all forms of conservatism in Canada (except for Danielle Smith in Alberta). Poilievre campaigned on “Axe the Tax,” Trudeau’s economic policies being an easy target. However, when Trudeau flipped the script with the threat of Orange Hitler, Poilievre made a fatal political error by going all-in on tds.

Consider the following two speeches, the first by Trudeau and the second by Poilievre. They sound exactly the same. The Liberals and Conservatives have the same platform: Both are willing to fight a trade war with Trump, both are appealing to Trump derangement syndrome, and both chart Canada’s future course in the same direction.

The fact is, no matter who is voted for in the next election, the result will be the same. tds has hijacked the election.

Accountability

Canada faces serious problems. Generations of Canadians have been let down by their leaders. The fruits of incompetence and failure can be seen on every level in the country. However, there seem to be no options for real substantive change. The reality is we, the Canadian people, have painted our nation into a corner.

For many years, Canadians have failed to hold our leaders accountable. Democracy can work only when the people have the character to hold their leaders accountable. While the choices have been lackluster, the current situation illustrates the point: Trudeau is poised to leave office as a champion of freedom, not being held accountable for years of scandals and tyranny, and Canada is so focused on Donald Trump that the causes of our problems are not being addressed.

All these matters illustrate an ugly truth. The Bible reveals the real problem at the heart of Canada’s problems: The Canadian people have not held ourselves accountable. We must hold ourselves accountable to the standard of God’s perfect and holy law. Unless we hold ourselves accountable, we cannot hold our leaders accountable.

National morality determines national greatness. National sins portend national decline. National blessings can only occur when we obey God’s laws and repent of our individual sins. This is the truth of the Bible that governs the affairs of nations.

The late Herbert W. Armstrong explained this truth in The United States and Britain in Prophecy and warned that unless we individually choose to heed God’s call to repentance, disaster will strike us as it strikes our unrepentant nations:

But if youyou now reading this, you as an individual—will be corrected, voluntarily, before God lets this indescribably horrendous chastening strike; if you come to real repentance, realizing how terribly wrong you have been; if you can see yourself as you really are—as a rebellious wrong, evil person; and if you can surrender to the loving, all-merciful, yet all-powerful God—and make it an unconditional surrender, coming to Almighty God through the living Jesus Christ as personal Savior—then no plague shall come near you! (Psalm 91:8-11), but you shall be accounted worthy to escape all these frightful things and to stand before Christ at His return (Luke 21:35-36)…

But you must make your own decision—and to neglect doing so is to have made the wrong decision!

Most people, we know only too well, will take this serious warning lightly—put it out of mind—turn to other immediate interests of no importance by comparison! That is why a loving, just, all-wise, all-powerful God is going to take away from them these unimportant counter-interests, and apply such intensified correction that they shall, finally, come to their senses, and turn to Him and His way which will bring them eternal happiness and abundant blessings!

Ignore the clamoring of Trump derangement syndrome. This is the real message we need to hear and unite around as a country! The only path forward for Canada is repentance, accountability.
